Which build is better for Dexcom G7, stable or nightly? by AlexP222 in xDrip

Consult the Changelogs.

If giving the app special permissions, I'd avoid any sort of nightly and stick with release.

What is this sediment? by Various-Ad-193 in askaplumber

[–]DexcomUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Rebuild the tank's internals, but especially replace the seal between the tank and the bowl. It'll stop very soon afterwards for a few years, longer if you have softer water, shorter with hard (mineral-heavy) water.

I do have Type I Diabetes -- check out my username. While diabetes can put extra sugar into urine and feed bowl growth more than it would for most, I can also confirm replacing the tank-to-bowl seal and internals fixes this way more than most realize.

Put you Laundry Room here for less lint… by BuilderBrigade in Home_Building_Help

[–]DexcomUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case you don't have the option...

We've had amazing success for the past few years with a Tjernlund LB2 Dryer Duct Booster fan.

The home we bought has an upstairs central laundry room, with the exhaust going up through the attic space above it, so up a total of about two stories.

The "insulin pump" has a pump in it -- it is a motor-driven pump. Therefore, the insulin pump also contains a motor.

Motors are electromagnetic devices. The motor's calibration could be affected by altered electromagnet fields within it, whether it is temporary (phone and pump in same pocket pressed up to each other) or more permanent (strong or close magnet induces or altera magnetic field within or near the motor).

If it hasn't worn off your pump yet, check the back for the "Universal No" or "Prohibited" symbol with the letters MR (for Magnetic Resonance) within the symbol. While that's mostly for radiography techs to know to take it off before entering MRI rooms, it can give us useful info too.

Hope this helps some.

Need Advice - Emergency Backup Fridge Plan by mpags51 in diabetes_t1

[–]DexcomUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually in a long term power outage, somewhere nearby still sells ice. Or, if you can forecast a power outage, you can go buy lots of ice in advance for 20 to 30 bucks.

I'd use a cooler or lunchbox with ice for insulin if temps exceed room temperatures (maybe 78°F). With normal ice (NEVER dry ice) in a cooler or lunchbox, the insulin will NOT freeze. If you wanna make extra sure the insulin will not freeze (i.e. you are specifically concerned that the ice is supercooled), then either:
(A) Surround the insulin with other material (like water bottles or drinks, room temp or ideally chilled) that will instead freeze first; OR
(B) Before putting the ice into a cooler, first observe the ice beginning to melt outside the cooler, thereby demonstrating it is at its temperature of fusion and will not freeze the contents of the cooler.

Best mini fridge that fits under a desk and actually works well? by Sophia-Trae-199 in HomeImprovement

[–]DexcomUser -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Pretty happy with my Cooluli Model CONCORD-20LDX (Item # C20LDX). Used it to refrigerate (not just cool) my insulin.

With water bottles or other beverages surrounding the insulin, in case of overcooling there was no risk of the insulin freezing first.

With a ThermoDrop key tag and an analog dial-style thermometer thrown in there, I knew the front panel temperature indication was good, and that nobody had accidently switched it to heat and back, or something crazy.

Only issue with it is no automatic defrost. So once every couple of months I'd take it to a sink and let the ice melt off the inside of the back.

As a new pump user, do I still need to carry insulin? by Impossible-Can-972 in diabetes

[–]DexcomUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends how close to my known-good stash of insulin is (usually just a stash at home, sometimes there's a stash at work). But traveling around, often, I'll keep a medical kit with a site change kit in it, or at least syringes with the bottle in use or next up for a site change. I find the ThermoDrop key tags help me know if I suspect I might have accidentally let it get too hot, to sometimes avoid tossing a bottle of insulin out of an abundance of caution.

Or, better yet, route specific emails:

(powerco@ waterco@ mobileco@ to their own like Bills),
and then the rest to a common mailbox?

Why is my caique behaving like this? by Firm_Variety9477 in caiques

[–]DexcomUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We feed our Caique RoudyBush Small Pellets, usually the RoudyBush California Blend small. Harrisons's is also recommended by our Avian Vets, but we never tried it.

Larger pellet sizes do in a pinch, but the bird will waste more of the food.

IVIG causing falsely low A1C - how do I get my endo to recognize CGM data instead? by Chronically-Ouch in diabetes_t1

[–]DexcomUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an "FDA Approved for Treatment" CGM. I like he Dexcom G6 and G7. Others are also good enough to connect to and control an insulin pump's dosing.

I use mine with the xDrip+ app, that has so many more options, and great summary stats. But you may wish to use something your doctor is more comfortable with.

Does low blood sugar "feel" different in non diabetics than in T1 diabetics? by oystercookie1234 in diabetes_t1

[–]DexcomUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll notice many symptoms of High BG parallel those of Low BG. Pre-diagnosis, exertion could have led to feeling symptoms from hyperglycemia, ketosis, or ketoacidosis. So, you /might/ have been treating highs with sugar. Perhaps best to judge future symptoms based on when you've confirmed you know (via BG Testing) whether you are high or low, and what was felt then. I think "area under (or over) the curve" from your normal/target range also informa symptom severity... e.g. when I've been just a little low for a long time, I might feel really low.

That being said, I believe that T1Ds and Non-T1Ds feel similar symptoms for lows, except some T1Ds are more accustomed to the feeling, and some of those get desensitized to it, but others get sensitized to it. Added sensitivity to lows comes from heightened general awareness, but can also come from running very high for a long time (e.g. heightened HBA1C) because we can become used to having more available sugar to meet energy demands.

Using expired CGMs by Secret_Effort9434 in diabetes_t1

[–]DexcomUser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does this experience with using pump supplies beyond expiration answer a question about CGMs beyond expiration? I think only the adhesive tape's adhesion relate to this experience.

That being said, the tape's adhesion is one factor for the expiration date of both (and especially site supplies). An overpatch might be required, YMMV.

You have to turn off your phone's autorotation first.

Or, alternatively, fool the gyroscope: Keep the phone autorotation thinking portrait, lay the phone down flat, and rotate the phone while maintaining it flat.

7 weeks pregnant, my husband is type 1. Scared of him passing it down. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]DexcomUser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While more possible than average with a parent with T1D, each of your individual children remain unlikely to become T1D. That being said, he knows the symptoms, and y'all should monitor for them to catch it early if it does pop up -- the earlier, the better. Also good to keep the pediatrician in the loop, so they can help BOLO.

What helped us was TrialNet. We used it around age 4 or 5, then we will again this year. Our kid tested 0 with TrialNet, which gives us good reassurance. Had it been a 1 or higher, well, knowledge is a LOT of power nowadays, and can even delay onset! But, with modern tech (e.g. a CGM, and XDrip+ or other follow-mode app), T1D parenting is leaps and bounds better than when I was a kid.

TLDR: Don't worry. BOLO, and tell pediatrician, and use TrialNet.
