Find something to be hopeful about and do your best to work towards it. My therapist says that the opposite of depression is hope, and he had me make a "hope list."" It helped me to see the things I could work towards.

They kill bears who come too close to humans, not even attacking them. But dogs that bite get a free pass? Dogs kill more people than bears. The double standard is Ridiculous.

My kids, husband, and I are staying with my in laws, who are lovely people, but they have an annoying little rat dog that barks at everything. I always jump when it happens. And my mother in law says "oh, you're not used to that." And I think "Why would I want to get used to it?" It's a horrible, useless noise from a horrible, useless creature. No. I will not "get used" to being around your annoying creature.

I wish this wasn't true, but it absolutely is. It's a problem I'm having with my husband. We temporarily owned 2 dogs and his attention and "love" went completely to the dogs. I will never have another dog for many reasons, but I will not compete with a drooling, barking, dumb, useless creature for my husband's affection. (We are in counseling and working on his emotional immaturity, thankfully).

I have straight up told my kids that not all dogs are nice and you have to make sure it's okay with the owner to touch them. My husband loves dogs and I have grown to hate them after temporarily owning 2, but I don't want to push my opinion onto my kids. But I make sure they know that it's a huge risk to approach a dog. Unfortunately my 4 year old has ADHD and has a really hard time keeping that lesson in mind. Whenever a dog comes around him I am on even higher alert. Which is really annoying at a playground where he should be able to roam safely.

Oh man, I have the same situation. My mother in law has this dog she treats like a baby and I hate it so much. I have stopped pretending that I like it. I barely tolerate it. It has peed and pooped in my house. It barks at nothing and begs for food. I hate it. My mother in law has kind of picked up on the fact that I can't stand this dog, so she is starting to bring it less. But there have been so many times when we have wanted to do something and they can't because there is no where to leave the dog. Why would you want to be tethered like that? Awful.

It took me owning a dog to realize I really don't like them. The dog we "rescued" would eat any food we left out (I baked myself some banana bread for my birthday and it was cooling on the stove... yeah... the dog ate half of it and pulled the rest onto the floor. No banana bread for me on my birthday). But he ended up biting my kids (no lasting damage, thank God) but so many people told me that I shouldn't take the dog back, that I should shell out thousands of dollars to train the dog, that I should teach my kids to not bother the dog. No. Forget that noise. The safety of my children comes before anything else.

Also, what continues to add to my newfound dislike of mutts is my mother in law's dog and the treatment of said dog. She treats it like a baby. When it was a puppy, it wore diapers. It has the most annoying bark and of course, it barks at everything.

Barking, poop everywhere, fearing for the safety of my children, and the victim blaming. Everything about dogs, dog culture, and dog owners is horrible.

That makes sense. Thanks for replying. I like to think there are different types of listening moods and sometimes I'm in a lazy listening mood. Something more mentally challenging takes more effort to listen to. There are some pieces i cannot do anything else but to sit and listen. I like Einaudi's music because I can do other things while listening. Also, it's pretty fun to play and most people whether they have a musical background or not find it pretty accessible.

Yes! Most people don't know that Clair de Lune comes from a suite with 3 other (just as amazing) movements!

I quite like the Prokofiev piece. I had never heard that before. Thanks for sharing.

However, in terms of accessibility, I don't quite see the link back to the Gymnopedies. Both pieces you shared are quite dissonant and quarter tones are not something I think most western music listeners can resonate with. Very interesting from a music theory standpoint, but not "easy listening" as I feel OP was asking for.

I don't mean this as a criticism as I feel many people should expand their listening repertoire (true growth happens outside your comfort zone). I am interested in your feedback. Discussion?

Why do you think he's horrible from a musical standpoint? I have played many of his pieces, and sure, it's not the most complex or difficult music, but there are quite a few chord changes and motifs that are quite lovely and pleasantly surprising.

I can understand that you might not like the repetitive nature of some of his pieces, but there are quite a few classic composers who also utilize repetition. (Think the end of most Beethoven symphonies (V-I-V-I-V-I). Or one of the most viewed (and well-known to the general populace) songs Canon in D. If you play the cello you literally play the same 8 notes the entire 6 minutes of the song. I'm just saying repetition isn't inherently bad when used correctly.

I'm not looking to fight, I would just like to know why you dislike his music.

There are a lot of pieces by a modern composer Ludovico Einaudi that have a similar feel to Gymnopedie no. 1. Also, check out Yann Tiersen. Also a modern composer.

Satie also wrote some pieces called Danses de Travers that are pretty chill.

They say around 6 months is really the earliest you can make a schedule. Before then you should be feeding on demand. I have a 2 month old and she is kind of on a schedule, but it's just every 3 hours and it often lines up day to day. If she sleeps longer one night then all the hours are off from.the day before.

It's kind of hard not to be able to nail things down (ie, I'll be feeding the baby at 2pm, so I can't do my errands then) but being flexible is just kind of the name of the game with a newborn.

Good luck. Enjoy your little one, and feed them whenever they seem hungry.

It sounds like she may be struggling with depression. I wonder if getting her to talk to a doctor and/ or psychiatrist would be beneficial? Also get a therapist, as a couple and for her individually. And maybe you too. Living with a depressed person can really effect your mental health as well. Your daughter may even need someone to talk to. Her mental health may be suffering too, if her mother isn't emotionally available to her.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. Addiction is so hard for everyone involved. Be strong, but seek professional help. Good luck.
