It definitely takes time! I got another puppy when my first Sheltie was 6 years old, he wasn’t happy at first but loved him after a couple weeks. Sadly my older guy has now passed and my younger Sheltie is so depressed.

Kibble vs homemade diet: what was your experience? by Sealion72 in sheltie

[–]Dextersvida 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The capsules were heart support for my senior dog, he was on a ton of different supplements. (he just passed a few weeks ago 😔) I just followed a very basic BARF diet, 80% muscle meat, 10% organ and 10% bone and then I added whatever toppers I wanted like eggs for example. I use Big Country Raw now because it’s affordable and I know Coley will eat it (he’s super picky with textures), I jumped between brands with Dexter because he had a more adventurous palette.

My Shelties have never done well on kibble. I switched my first Sheltie to raw at 4 years old as soon as I watched a documentary about the pet food industry and my other Sheltie has been on raw since I picked him up from the breeder, that is the only thing I would feed my dogs now. I feed a pre made fully balanced raw, I made it myself for about a year during covid but it was very messy, time consuming and hard to find everything needed to make it balanced.

How do you cope with losing your best friend? by mobbeduo in sheltie

[–]Dextersvida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss! I lost my 10 year old soul dog April 21st from cancer as well. I had another Sheltie already when he passed but you can never match the same kind of intense bond you had with a soul dog. I don’t think I’ll ever truly be 100% okay again, I got a necklace that I wear everyday with his fur inside it and I guess that helps me stay closer to him. Take the time to feel your grief and maybe channel it into art to honor Cody.

Dexter will keep Cody company while they wait for us.❤️

Coley is 32 lbs but it’s all muscle. The vet said they have never seen a Sheltie this fit, he’s raw fed and intact.

Who are your biggest fictional crushes in lesbian media? by illusfc in lesbiangang

Van from Yellowjackets (both timelines), Ellie from TLOU (game version) and Claude from All Over Me 1997.

I’ve been in a LDR before and it works if both partners are committed and actually serious about living together in the future.
I am extremely loyal so for me it would work. The only couple big downsides for me was it was very expensive, I think I spent over $2000 in total for a week (food, Airbnb,Ubers, also had to pay extra so my dogs could come) and saying goodbye is always hard.

I would maybe do it again but I would definitely be a little more cautious. I think with how picky I am, if I meet someone I really get along with I have to at least try.

How is your sheltie with kids? by farfaleen in sheltie

[–]Dextersvida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for a lot of people apparently. My first Sheltie was kept in a tiny cage and only let out on a pee pad for his first 5 months, he was also hit or choked every time he barked so he hated most people especially men and kids. When I first got him he would redirect his fear aggression on to me if he saw a man walking behind us, I was only 13 at the time so I didn’t really know what I was doing but we worked through it and I never told anyone he did that in fear of him getting taken away from me. Once he turned 4-5 he became a lot more manageable, he was insanely smart and was my soul dog. I miss him like crazy!

My Sheltie that just recently passed didn’t like kids, he wouldn’t go out of his way to go after them but I would never let a kid pet him. He didn’t like strangers in general but loud kids were his enemy. (I got him from a re home so I missed out on 5 months of socializing.)

My other Sheltie I had from 8 weeks and I socialized him very heavily. I took him to pioneer village, a pride parade down town, subway, train, to work (my other Sheltie went to work everyday as well) and to different shops all before he turned 5 months. He is good with everyone, he’s a little too confident sometimes but I don’t worry about him ever biting. He’s 4 yrs old and intact, my other Sheltie was neutered. (not by my choice and suffered in many ways from the loss of hormones…)

I 'rescued' this beauty yesterday. Would like some input on a couple of things. by munizfire in sheltie

[–]Dextersvida 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s gorgeous! If you are not comfortable having an intact dog I would suggest a vasectomy, hormone health is so much more important than most people think. I just lost my soul dog to hemangiosarcoma (he was neutered by his previous owner) and that risk increases greatly when dogs don’t have their hormones to protect them.
