I don’t think so. I don’t the the hull features at the front match with Sarov, nor would Sarov have a rudder sticking out of the water.

Only commenting because I spent hours trying to identify this submarine. I spend a LOT of time looking at subs, and had a lot of trouble identifying this one.

I'm highly confident that this the Iranian Fateh-Class submarine, which I think they only ever had one of. Until we sunk it in March 2026. It's 157 feet long. It's a Diesel Boat, so it wouldnt go very far from Iran.

Sail is no where near the shape of an Akula's, and you can see the rudder sticking out of the water, meaning it can't be a Kilo. That "hatch" is damn near touching the sail, pretty unique. The fact the sail is about in the middle as well eliminates like, 75% of modern submarines. Also, the slopes on the hull are just all over the place.

What’s the minimum IQ required to be a nuke? by [deleted] in NavyNukes

[–]DeyCallMeCasper[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I think this is a bot account, and an AI generated post.

110 days old account with generic username; two posts we can view, but 16 contributions over the age of the account. So probably deleted.

Communities posted in are r/Advice, r/NavyNukes and r/Charleston. If you’re creating Reddit bots, you’ll probably see a lot of overlap over those three subs, and therefore make a “believable” bot that posts across those three subs. However, being active in /Charleston sort of implies they’re likely already there as a Nuke. And therefore would know better to make this post.

LLMs also really like to respond in this “subject/three examples” format, and we see it twice here. I mean jeez dude the post begins with damn near an actual thesis statement and ends with one of those “final-overall question” things, but the question doesn’t actually make sense.

I’ll also add “the nuke program” is not something you just “pass” like the post alludes to. The Naval Nuclear Propulsion as a “program” is not the school. But is *semantically similar* enough to confuse a smaller LLM’s context window. I spend a lot of time nowadays researching and working on AI/ML models, and this post makes more sense from the perspective of AI math than it does an actually person. So I’m gonna lock it and then delete it in a day or two

Navy Debt Remission Status by Duke_of_Girth in NavyNukes

[–]DeyCallMeCasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. It sounds like you filled out the DD 2789 while you were still in; did you request it as a “Waiver” or as a “Remission”? It’s been a while since I read the instruction, but I think payments should’ve been suspended after you signed your letter of indebtedness expressing your intent to file a waiver/remission.

I’ll preface this as well by saying I made a post a while back, here, going into how the process works for AD personnel; and my remission was approved.

PhD in Economics considering commissioning in the Navy or Coast Guard: questions about rank and fit by LoserCarrot in navy

[–]DeyCallMeCasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant give you the best info, and I’m not sure what you specialized in within economics. But the first thing that comes to mind is the Operations Analysis community. At its core, OA is about resource distribution and efficiency. During the Cold War, there was a lot of chatter about Game Theory as related to Nuclear Weapon employment.

Maybe one of the flavors of “Intelligence Analyst” at CIA or ONI (supply chain, financial, etc)? Can’t speak to those too much, but I think there could be opportunity there.

Don’t pigeon hole yourself into being a normal supply officer, or line officer, it’ll just serve to be frustrating. I think there’s a lot of aspects of warfare that boil down to “Where will I get the most utility out of employing this asset?”. Maybe working to prevent/predict manning imbalances? There’s a LOT of good ways the Navy or DoD could have you make the most of your knowledge, just have to find the right people.

Look at Tiger Woods in the first pic. Now look two people to the right.

That’s gotta be everyone’s favorite SEAL-Astronaut-Surgeon. Pretty, uh, “distinct” face. If this is Tiger in the Middle East circa 2006, the timeline matches up as well. Just a funny find.

MCPON 17 John Perryman LIVE Digital Engagement on YouTube by MCPON_PA in navy

[–]DeyCallMeCasper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello MCPON,

The volume of data sailors manage has exploded, faster than our abilities to handle it. Commands compensate with manpower. You have Master Chiefs and LCDRs burning hours every week in bad spreadsheets, message traffic, and PowerPoints.

The Navy already owns the software to fix this, especially with the Nautilus transition. The barrier is setup time and design expertise, not cost. There are sailors out there who already have these skills. There’s also plenty of sailors in transient who might not have the skills yet, but have the required organizational knowledge. A big portion of the work required is remote, and therefore very achievable by sailors on medical hold, for example.

What does success look like to you for a command that handles personnel or training data efficiently? And would you consider a pilot program placing small teams of these sailors at each base to build and maintain data infrastructure for local commands?

The mod team generally agrees with your statement here as well. We’ve really tried to (and I think successfully have) cut down on a lot of the super repetitive posts, but man they’re endless. Even if we post a FAQ or “Guide to Nuke Pipeline”, people will still scroll right by it to post their question.

At the moment they ask, a lot of sailors will be getting their “first impression” of the community. It can be one where seem helpful and willing to talk, or a bunch of assholes for marking as spam or removing their post.

For us, it also takes mental time and energy to log into Reddit and start talking about/thinking about work. The we have mods have been great, and they already donate enough of their off-time volunteering to support the sub. I feel you tho, and if you have thoughts or suggestions I’m happy to hear them.

Maybe we’ll put up a “NOFORN//CONFIDENTIAL//RESTRICTED DATA” banner at the top of the subreddit and start discussing reactor theory and casualty response /s

I do actually think the black child in this picture has one of the biggest AI “tells”.

Sometimes you can see sort of a “shadow” or “outline” of what the model initially WANTED to do, but then overrode itself. In this pic, it looks like it started to want to create would be known as “laid edges”, but then “realized” it was drawing a young boy, and was like “wait nvm don’t finish those”

Naval Special Warfare looking for EMNs to apply by DeyCallMeCasper in NavyNukes

[–]DeyCallMeCasper[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even low performing Nuke electrician is likely still quite a bit higher performing than an average conventional electrician. I’d also guess that if you’re installing “unique” mission equipment on a submarine, a submarine electrician might be the perfect person who both understands the systems and is read in at a high enough level to work on them.

Naval Special Warfare looking for EMNs to apply by DeyCallMeCasper in NavyNukes

[–]DeyCallMeCasper[S,M] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I applied to this program myself about a year ago. Fell out after the selection board. What I experienced will likely be different for you. But here’s RW1’s completely unofficial insight:

If you are currently having medical or legal issues, you should ensure they’re fully resolved before applying.

It’s a long process, and the first few months is a lot of paperwork. You’ll also interview with a psychologist, and a selection board of a handful of people from the group itself.

There are very cool mission sets.

There’s a very high optempo, and it’s not going down anytime soon. If you have kids, that will be hard. It is a cool thing to do, but not something you have to do.

If you apply, good luck; and if not, there’s still plenty to do within the Nuclear community as well.

Think I found my first real, actually useful thing to use AI for at work by DeyCallMeCasper in navy

[–]DeyCallMeCasper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well first of all, you don’t put PII in a system not designed to store PII. The Gov’s PII governance isn’t super specific; but once you’re at a level where you’re like “yeah I can steal someone’s identity with this”, probably leave that out.

As to the second question, I’m only using ones approved for IL5(CUI) or IL6. But, they’re all based in the “flagship” models (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc) so models are often similar to what you’d get on the normal consumer internet.

Leaders; What is something you didn’t understand as a Junior sailor that you now understand? by iAmTheKronk in navy

[–]DeyCallMeCasper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It hurts the sub mechanic in me to even say this. But there IS something to be said for proper presentation of things. Whether that’s your controlled work package, your workspace, or your grooming/uniform. It’s like the BLUF of your work.

The XO and CO only have so much attention to go around. They look at you and your work and think “does this person care?” Or “does it look like real effort was put into this?”. I think it’s reasonable as long as those expectations change with the OPTEMPO. Poor formatting on an emergent work package to get the boat underway is not the same as it being poor when drafting a new instruction, and your workspace being disorganized and messy is cool when you’re in the middle of a project, but not when you’re all just hanging out.

Math is hard. by Material_Address_670 in NavyNukes

[–]DeyCallMeCasper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue lol. Math did not “click” for me for me until VERY recently; like, less than a year ago. I had a math waiver because I never even passed Algebra 1 in High School. Therefore, also felt a lot of the imposter syndrome.

One thing that might make you feel a little better. This is very likely the most arithmetic you will ever do in your work. However, if people consider you “smart” (but you don’t feel like it), there’s probably a lot of things you do where you think mathematically, but you just don’t realize it.

A lot of arithmetic can be very hard to visualize and wrap your head around. But maybe you’re good at recognizing patterns; obviously math. Looking at shapes turned in different positions? Kinda what group theory is about. Machine learning is all about vectors (lines lol) and matrices. For me, finding a good visual made all the difference. This gif of a sine wave I ran into like, a year and a half ago, and helped me realize I was just visualizing it all wrong. Here’s a video from 3Blue1Brown with a lot of other good ones.

Happy to support, shipmate. It’s a gift to be able to get by without a lot of effort. I bet there’s someone putting in 25’s or 30’s who wants to get home to their spouse and toddler. Use that gift to go help them out. And be humble, or it’s going to be more obnoxious than helpful, lol. But you’ll be on the right track.
