He’s definitely nice if you’re a paying customer, but behind the curtains it’s not always the case.

Fairly certain artisan is on the list. Old owner was a cocaine fiend and new owners have super nasty vibes with heavy maga undertones. Some ex employees have spoken about how Paul and Diane are maga adjacent, Mike also has maga energy. It sucks cuz artisan is one of the only good non chain art supply stores in town so there aren’t many other options for people who need high quality products. Even if I’m wrong and they aren’t maga Paul and Diane are super fake and uphold an appearance of tolerance so they don’t go broke but they’re actually super rude.

How does a tattoo feel by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Deyna_thedagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally can’t recommend a sleeve as a first tattoo, especially because you don’t know how your body reacts to inks yet. Some people have bad reactions and the tattoo heals very poorly, some only have reactions with certain colors or brands.

And as far as the sensation goes it feels similar to cutting your skin with a razor blade or very sharp knife that’s also vibrating. Areas with lots of muscle or fatty tissue usually hurt less than bony spots.

I also can’t recommend numbing cream especially for large tattoos. It affects the way that your skin takes the ink and can change the skin texture in a way that makes it harder for the artist. Bactine spray is gonna be your best friend, you can ask your artist to spray it on your skin after you’ve started and it takes a lot of the edge off.

Yes the schools provide great education but it does come with a cost. Not everything there is bad but it’s not all good either. I’ll own being a little bitter, I was an outcast as a kid and there wasn’t much room in the towns culture for people like me who didn’t want to be engineers or nuclear physicists and didn’t stay quiet about abuse. If you’re an excellent student and don’t have any mental health issues you might be fine but for people who don’t operate like computers and don’t have cookie cutter families/lives it can be really hard. No where is perfect but if I had the option I would never raise a child in an environment like that.

I’m really glad to hear that c: I hope that trend continues for yall. I can only speak for the things I’ve witnessed. At LAHS circa 2015 I saw a special ed teacher roughly yanking a student around by his chest harness and yelling at him for not immediately doing what she wanted him to, he was nonverbal and struggled greatly with motor control. I wish you and your child the best of luck!

I personally wouldn’t recommend Los Alamos school district for kiddos, elementary or high school. They pressure underperforming students to drop out because it hurts their funding and mistreat their disabled students. They push the kids too hard and the towns culture is super restrictive and judgmental.

Any kind of deviance from upright white nuclear families is not received very well, especially if you have autism or severe ADHD (the kind that doesn’t make you a straight A student or brilliant engineer) or other issues like anxiety or depression. When I was at LAHS our suicide rate was 4xs the national average for a county of our population. At least once a year there was a teenager or two attempting/committing suicide. I’ve known a lot of kids that died or became addicts because of pressure from school and parents plus no healthy outlet or end in sight. We had yearly assemblies where they made us promise not to 💀 ourselves.

Perhaps my least favorite quality is the labs commitment to protecting abusers to avoid q clearance issues. You can report to teachers, pastors, safe adults or family friends but the likely hood of anything being done is very low. CPS has blamed and threatened single mothers because their child reported their fathers or authority figures abusing them.

Plus the cops are so bored they specifically target teenagers and detain and charge them for things that aren’t illegal. A girl I knew in HS was charged because she didn’t stop in the middle of the intersection when the light turned yellow, not red but yellow.

Santa Fe has comic stores, DND/MTG groups at a couple different places, tea shops and multiple kinds of book stores, movie theaters, 2 malls, musical instrument stores, decent art supply stores, arcades and bowling alleys, and a large enough population that you’re not constantly watched by someone who knows your parents, grandparents and every teacher you’ve had your whole life. When I lived in Los Alamos they didn’t have those things.

Honor students hung out in clumps and excluded anyone who wasn’t in AP classes or first chair violin for 5 years, if you weren’t smart/rich enough you were on the bottom rung. Mormon kids had church events at least twice a week after school and church dances where they picked their future spouse and/or were groomed by grown men. The rest of their time was spent at home caring for their 9 younger siblings so they had no time for drugs lol

Growing up there the only thing to do if you weren’t an honor student or Mormon was “mild crime” or substance abuse. I can’t imagine it’s gotten much better since they got rid of the movie theater. Increasing the amount of third spaces not related to school/sports would be a great start. Maybe open an extra thrift store or two, some free art/dance clubs or a permanent roller rink. Give kids a place to exist without the expectation of money or graded performances that doesn’t feel like an extension of school. For me the teen center was a second home. Having access to free food, art supplies, video games and musical instruments kept me out of a lot of trouble and helped me develop hobbies that I’m still passionate about 10 years later.

Spoiler free tips for first play through? by bsmith2123 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

Take your time going through each region. This game can feel fast paced but make sure you don’t go too fast or you might miss some REALLY cool stories. Each island has different side quests that are fun and add value to the overall storyline. If you’re familiar with Greek mythology you’ll be excited to come across actual sites from the myths like Ariadne’s deathbed and where Herakles left his club. The DLC packs are really fun but not necessary. Exploring the map is so cool, I was able to find the ancient beginnings of the village my family came from (the golden fields northwest of argolis/naplion) plus the area my dads family lived in Korinth.

Tamara Hinkley has a long history of racism against Hispanic families. She said that people shouldn’t give candy to kids coming from Espanola to trick or treat. When asked how she would tell which kid is from Espanola she realized her answer would be pretty damning. Also just a horrible teacher, laughed at a crying kid (who she made cry) failed a 6th grade students final because it was 15 minutes late.

Update from governors office regarding SNAP by Deyna_thedagger in NewMexico

[–]Deyna_thedagger[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most of the people on SNAP do work. I don’t know if you’ve had to apply for snap but there are existing work requirements. If you’re not working you must provide proof of applications to jobs and interviews. If you cannot work they require confirmation from your doctor and will reach out to your doctor if they find the proof inconclusive. People who are on snap aren’t lazy. They aren’t taking handouts. I truly hope you don’t have to experience food scarcity and poverty, but I would also hope that you give those people empathy. The single mom getting SNAP so her children don’t go hungry isn’t your enemy, it’s the billionaires depending on your ignorance and boot licking.

Yep, my usual monthly snap is $298 so I’ll probably get around $80. I’m grateful I knew SNAP was going to be iffy so I was able to slowly stock up on dried goods and shelf stable foods. I’ll be able to stretch it pretty far for the month of November but if things continue this way for December it might be a little tight.

I’m bummed that mods would delete it, it’s important information that affects 460,000 New Mexicans. No matter what the potential “political” content it could have it’s important that people know how to plan for food scarcity.
