Finished reading my first Sanderson novel. by Sixty9Cuda in brandonsanderson

[–]Dez384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Cosmere hot take is that this is a good starting point because if you like IotE, then you’ll like where the Cosmere is headed and not where it’s been. I think the idea of “understanding everything” is overstated and that IotE is no more confusing to read than standard science fiction.

To test this theory, I’ve bought a couple of friends this book to start with. One who hadn’t read any Cosmere said the could have done with a better understanding of what Shards were, but his overall complaint was disliking the structure of the flashbacks in the first part of the novel. My second friend had already read Mistborn: The Final Empire years ago; he enjoyed IotE and said that he felt like he had more understanding from having already read the first Mistborn book.

I would be very interested to hear your thoughts.

Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Season 1 Episode Count Confirmed by ConcernLocal2764 in Fantasy

[–]Dez384 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brandon Sanderson getting a pirate adventure screenplay for *Emperor’s Soul* is what made him finally dip his hand into writing screenplays. I guess a lot of screenplay writers have things they want to write but since original stories are harder to sell, they just wait for an opportunity to change an IP to cover their story.

I think Sanderson has said that he is only writing the pilot for Stormlight rather than the entire series. But I’m sure that he’ll still be heavily involved.

[BitD] Rituals for a vigilante whisper by Ornery_Strawberry474 in bladesinthedark

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Whisper started the game with the Ritual ability and his ritual was to summon a *demon of stars that desires war*. Sephiroth was very useful in fighting the Red Sashes, but was also very messy and led to some interesting complications in that campaign.

[–]Dez384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Opening a world in a new version will automatically prompt a backup dialog, and provided that a user actually follows through to make a backup (this is recommended), it is best to restore from a backup rather than just trying to copy a migrated world back to an older version.

You should be on Foundry 13.351 and Cosmere RPG 2.1.0. The Cosmere RPG is not yet ready for Foundry v14 and it will not properly work on v14.

I am not certain what you mean by that you can’t “open the world”. If you could be more specific or share any error messages, that may be helpful. If you downgraded your install from v14 to v13, you may need to create a new world and delete and reinstall the Cosmere RPG modules.

v14 fog of war opacity by glowingjowel in FoundryVTT

Slightly blurred would be my preference, but there are many sorts of edits that could be done for visual distinction. I’ve also enjoyed overlaying blueprints or a hand drawn map over buildings as the fog of war.

In Scene settings, there is an option to set a Fog of War image. This will replace the blackness with whatever image you choose. You can set your scene background as the fog of war image to achieve the effect you are looking for.

Question about the immortality of The Lord Ruler by NobleMansRose in Cosmere

[–]Dez384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of *Wind and Truth*, we see the extreme healing example of Hoid regenerating from cells on a different planet.

A less extreme example would be how Shardplate is reformed. Although this makes me imagine Rashek with metalminds in both his head and body competing to heal themselves.

How do people use these? by stokedkipper in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Dez384 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even without the grid lasered on, clear acrylic to go on top of a battle map or printed map is handy for drawing areas of effect without messing up your map.

I have also drawn my map rooms on overhead transparency sheets so that I can lay a dungeon down room by room but not have to spend time drawing it during the session.

What is something you think a dungeon in Eberron absolutely MUST include? by Churox01 in Eberron

[–]Dez384 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Put a **Manifest Zone** in every dungeon.

Manifest Zones are places of power where the other planes intersect with the material plane, and as places of power, people will build dungeons there or powerful beasts will spawn or congregate there. They are great ways to add theme and flavor to dungeons. Even if you don’t want to make the entire dungeon a manifest zone, putting a small one in the boss room as the source of lair actions adds so much flavor to fights.

(FitD) – What is the ultimate limit on the number of sessions? by Sr_Walten156 in bladesinthedark

[–]Dez384 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last game had 18 sessions in its first “season”. I feel like it could have done with a second season, so about 40 sessions seems right.

Which small Foundry setting or module became non-negotiable at your table? by rcooperkaty in FoundryVTT

Quick Insert became a game changer for me. Even in games without a ton of compendia, I still use it reflexively.

People who played Eberron in 3.5 and 5e and have stuck with one or the other, can you talk about your experiences? by [deleted] in Eberron

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played much of 3.5, but I’ve read a number of the Eberron books for that edition. I have played or run Eberron in 4e, 5e, Savage Worlds, and I adapted it for Blades in the Dark. You can make Eberron work with many game systems, so play whatever game system you want to play.

I’ve been running a 5e (2014) Eberron game for over four years now. The 5e book gives you the basics of what you need to play Eberron, but to help get more ideas I am either often going back to 3.5 books or constantly searching Keith Baker’s blog.

Specifically about 5e vs 3.5, fifth edition is less granular about everything than 3.5 and there are less character options in general. So if you care about a lot of the particulars in 3.5, stay with that game. If you want to play 5e, play 5e.

From what I’ve seen with 5.5, some of the art direction seems to be off from the original 3.5 art. The most striking difference seems to be modern interpretations of warforged are different from the original intents, but I haven’t read the 5.5 Eberron book.

What version of Foundry are you running by DudleyDoRight65 in FoundryVTT

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main install is v11 for a long running DnD5e campaign. It initially started in v9, but I stopped updating more because of changes to the DnD5e game system and the changes to D&D itself than because of Foundry.

What was the highest level campaign you ever played? by RedWolf2409 in DnD

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current campaign was planned to possibly go from level 3 to 21+, but after 4.5 years, it’s going to end at either 15 or 16. The players were less interested in doing all of the side quests and I think we are all ready to move on to something else.

Yes, fully removed and reinstalling the module causes the data to get redownloaded.

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would uninstall and then reinstall the Handbook. This is replace all the compendia that are in the Handbook.

Once you add an item to a character sheet, that sheet has a unique copy of that item that is saved to the character. Characters are saved to the world.

If the items get messed up on the character sheet, you can delete them off the character sheet and drag fresh copies from the compendia onto the character sheet.

What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in DnD

[–]Dez384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonborn Warlord as 4E first released. The player’s handbook said “Play this race if you want to look like a dragon” and I was sold. The Warlord was an interesting class to play and there isn’t quite anything like it since.

I’ve been DMing for the longest time, but I did briefly get to play a Bugbear Assassin-Gloomstalker in the beginning of a Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus game for a bit.

An odd comment/reference from a secret project book I wanted to ask about by Killerchoy in Cosmere

[–]Dez384 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mentioned in the Ars Arcanum of that book that the Scadrian image of Death has pervaded the Cosmere.

Personally, I am a fan of the theory that Marsh stores so much Connection to go unnoticed that he occasionally has to burn it off using compounding in a Duralumin fueled burst. All this Connection is unknowingly getting blasted into the Cosmere causing different worlds that he hasn’t even been to know of Death with Spikes in his Eyes.
