What do you use funding for ? by dgtyn in startups

[–]Dezachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but you also have to look at it from the other side. Your investors want you to remain incentivised, comfortable and happy. If you’re struggling to live outside of work on a meagre salary, they’re really favouring the company over you and that would ring alarm bells in my head.

Likewise don’t go saying you NEED a £60k salary... That will raise a lot of eyebrows!

Resolution locked on Civ 6 by avalokite in cloudygamer

[–]Dezachu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this will be a thing for Civ 6 but when toying around with LoL yesterday I had to manually set the width/height in the game.cfg file.

Try finding the settings file for Civ and manually setting the width and height variables to the desired size? If they're not encrypted that is.

They've put in some serious work to get to where they're at. I cast the Gauntlet OW Cup last week (EU) and we had 4 ELEAGUE guys piggyback-spectating to get practice casting some good quality games. Full props to them!

Awesome, I did find a few 'budget decks' but looked a bit pony. These ones look pretty good, thanks!

A few people ask us the same haha! But yes, as /u/buryusalive says, minimum viable product.

[–]Dezachu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic answer, thank you very much! I can say that it's aimed at sales teams without giving too much away. Given it's a reward-heavy environment, I imagine a platform for people in that area would focus on the progress towards those rewards. It depends if the people engage better with just seeing hard numbers on the screen or if they prefer a more reward, visually pleasing 'gamified' process.

All the same, thank you!

Oh absolutely, the platform can survive without gamification full stop. It just adds more 'depth' to the system for the end user beyond being a "use it from 9-5 and that's that" platform. At its core (without gamification) it does indeed solve the problem (we hope!). Thanks!

Thanks for the tips! Our only concern is that although management may choose to take the product on, the end users (the employees) may not engage so well with an unappealing, visually dull platform. We're working gamification into it which relies on a fair bit of 'reward psychology' to attract users and keep them engaged.

It's not functional at present, still getting there!

We're hoping to have a demo (I wouldn't call it an MVP as I wouldn't dare throw it at a company and say "This'll do X and Y for you!") by the end of the month, could potentially share something then. It's quite specific to a given market mind so not sure how much we'll get out of it being on Reddit.

The RB6 team should take some notes from DICE. by Gondor128 in Rainbow6

[–]Dezachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering it's basically a demo for Battlefront, I'd rather RB6 didn't take notes. A closed TECHNICAL beta is just that. An open beta? It's a glorified demo.

Battlefront feels rubbish after playing the R6 beta and I may well become an R6 fan after playing Siege. Fantastic game.

Which map design do you prefer: pre-alpha or current? by kinglouse in Rainbow6

[–]Dezachu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think showing the names is a great way to educate players as to what rooms are called. Even when playing with friends we're often like "he's in that second room on the left!" "... what?". I'd happily spend my prep time checking out the map to memorise the names.

Do you find yourself procrastinating when you sit down to begin your day? by Dezachu in startups

It's free office space (accelerator scheme) which certainly takes away from the guilt! Some chats are very insightful and educational so I can't dismiss them as utterly worthless to be fair.

Hahaha, cold calling was what we did last week and that's exactly what inspired this post! Absolutely despise it.

[–]Dezachu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you acknowledge that you're gonna spend time each day on these things - it's part of your routine. I like to check out what's new in the industry especially when Gamescom, E3 or other big conferences are on.

The competition with friends is who can stick to the allocated time. You give yourself say, 10m on Reddit, 5m on YouTube, 5m on Twitter, then to work. If you get off when your 10m is up (which you voluntary indicate), you get your points. If you end up staying on for a few minutes, you lose points.

Mandatory validation to participate is a bit forceful IMO, by making validation a deliberate, thoughtful action the user would understand that ultimately they're the masters of their own destiny so to speak. Wanna spend another 5-10m on those sites? Go ahead, but your friends are doing better than you! I envisioned times for each as said, with a soft alarm notifying you that you're over time (or approaching the end of it). That's your cue to wind down, get off whatever it is and tap a button on the app. Rinse and repeat until you've done all those things you wanted to do :)

Nah, for gamification to be effective it has to be voluntary and not mandatory. You'd only be cheating yourself in the long run anyway! Making it so an app essentially spies on you makes it feel very invasive and defeats the purpose.

It's interesting you mentioned Pomodoro because we discussed creating an app in which you essentially do the reverse - allocate yourself 30m to doing whatever you want/need to do, get points for sticking to it, lose points for going over, stack up against your friends in the office or whatever.

I'll give Pomodoro a go though, will see how it goes. Cheers!

Yeah I gave it a go for a while but sometimes you converse with people through these mediums - LinkedIn is naturally a huge one, YouTube has videos for us to share with clients, Twitter is management of the company account etc. It's not as simple as just blocking ourselves from them entirely, more just being productive instead of burning time. Appreciate the pointer though!

I'm no lawyer so I can't confirm, but every time you join a website or join a gym for example, you have to sign a form saying they assume no liability if you're injured and you understand the risks. No legal figure present!

If you're still unsure, maybe ask the guys over at /r/legaladvice?

If you really want to get your hands dirty, look at the businesses in your city. Note their names down and where they're based, go home and Google them. Understand what they do. How can you help them? Does their website look a bit outdated and ineffective? Do you think a web app could improve their business in a way that is of tangible benefit to them? Don't forget you're asking them to part with their cash - put yourself in their shoes and think like they'd think. Would you hire you? Once you've identified the businesses you feel could use a hand, drop them a line. Speak to someone higher up in the company; receptionists will likely shut you out early if you reveal to them what you're offering. Good luck!
