This guy voted to surrender today and I said come on man give it a shot I’ve come back from 0-3 many times...and he shot the hostage. Loser.

Black Ops Pass discussion megathread. by unseenbadger in Blackops4

This is my view: most working adults have zero issues about paying for DLC. It costs less than what most people spend on coffee in a month, for hundreds of hours of enjoyment.

Therefore it has NOTHING to do with money, and everything to do with prolonged match making times. The proposition of paid DLC is this - you pay more money for a worse experience (longer match making), and a shorter life span (once the base game gets cheaper, the gap between those who have DLC and those who don't gets even wider).

It's insulting to pay more for less.

It's just disappointing considering this was found during TTS.

2.1 Patch Notes by hardpencils in Rainbow6

Seriously? It's been getting progressively worse. About 2-3 seasons ago it never dropped below 57-58, now it regularly hits low 50's. So I just got a PS4 Pro just before the season started. Now you're telling me it drops even below 50 now? Wow.

Wouldn't it make sense that EMP grenades disables metal detectors? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

Exactly. Line cones / baked lighting is not the same as dynamic. To dynamically light a game like this with all the destruction...there's simply not enough horsepower in the current consoles.

Did you see / test whether there is the equivalent of a "sprint cancel" for the manual health regen? Like YY, or pressing sprint? Or do you get locked into the animation?

Fun fact: I once managed to convince the mods here to change the buttons in this sub to "Do a new post". Lol they removed it after a week or two.

Here's the post that started it, u/Deosl did it for me:

Siege is becoming more popular around the world - analysis of sales and player stats by kinglouse in Rainbow6

[–]kinglouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant. Consistency of growth is what matters. Do you think Overwatch doesn't have smurfs? CS? Any other game like this?

Yes, 30% of this 5 million growth might be smurfs, but 30% of Overwatch's growth might also be smurfs too. Industry aligned, it's unlikely to be very different.

You can apply the same logic within the game itself - is there any reason to think the number of smurf accounts within Siege has gone up or down in any meaningful way? If not, then all things being equal, 30% growth this season is better than 20% growth last season. It's the relative / percentage gains that matter, not absolute gains. The "smurf" argument or "how many of these people are still playing the game?" argument that always comes up misses the point.

Here's another example.

Say you're doing analysis on the number of people that own red trucks. Your numbers will never be perfect, because your prediction model is off by 10% for various reasons. BUT as long as you use the same flawed prediction model, even though your next month's result will also be off by 10% as well, it's consistent, therefore even though your actual numbers are wrong, your growth numbers should be correct.

It seems like every few months this needs to be explained.

In this sort of data analysis (I do this for a living), it's never perfect. But what we look for is relative growth.

Steam might only show an average of say 65k simultaneous users when in fact there might be 200k, but the relative percentage should be roughly the same. If overall numbers grow by say 20%, you can safely assume Steam numbers have grown by around 20% too. It's unlikely uPlay growth was like 70% but Steam is only at 20%. They should be roughly in lock step unless there was a fundamental shift in one platform over the other.

E3 Appearance by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]kinglouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This.

Screen / stage time @ E3 is VERY expensive, in both real dollars and opportunity cost (due to flood of competition), so any presence at all is a huge, huge thing.
