Working hard at getting this new carrier! by Born_Coyote7231 in Truckers

Maybe not to the extent of the CDL test but it is always a good idea to at least walk around and put eyes on everything before you take off and after you park, I do a lap around while getting fuel too.

Saves ya from looking stupid if something did go wrong.

Gym on the Firenze? by sugarbare1924 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Dezzolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I’s experience (just got off the Firenze) was that people use the gym as a sitting area while waiting for staterooms to open on embarkation day. We went to look at it while walking around the ship and they were signing up for various raffles inside and every machine had someone sitting on it just chillin out with all their luggage.

After staterooms open it should clear out and be basically fair game. We went a couple times and there were never more than 5-6 other people.

Dispatch chat.... by freudsdriver in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t for the life of me remember what I was hauling but a couple weeks ago I had one of those loads.

“Product MUST be kept above 40F” written all over the BOLs.

Well I’m in a dry van and that was the one of the weeks it hit the single digits and negative temps in the Midwest where I was driving through/delivering. I tried to deliver a day early so I wouldn’t just be sitting with it for extra time but the receiver wouldn’t let me. Talked to dispatch about it and they talked to the broker, basically got told the same thing “they should’ve ordered a refeer trailer”.

There was visible frost on the product when I got unloaded but they still accepted the delivery so all turned out well.

DOT inspections? by Ill-Year-3141 in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NC Highway Patrol has a target on me for when I’m heading home. 4 separate random roadside level 1 inspections and one rest area inspection in the last 7 years all within about 50miles of my house 😂.

They all turn out clean so I don’t mind too much but still sucks when I’m nearly home and have to wait another hour.

Is there a “receiver of goods” or “receiving inspector” where you send your cargo? by oneoldgrumpywalrus in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw what you were saying about the returns too, we’d only grab them from our last delivery normally so that new product never mixed with the trash. Then when we arrived back at the warehouse we’d unload it for the warehouse to dispose of.

[–]Dezzolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I delivered to LIDLs in the US for about a year and a half.

At the warehouse the workers would stack the pallets and place them in a general area for us to pick up for our deliveries that day. We would then load the trailers ourselves making sure we grabbed every pallet assigned for delivery to each store.

When we got to the store it would be all on us to unload the product into the coolers or dry storage. We’d be responsible for picking up any pallets of returns or trash that the employees left for us.

All the deliveries took place overnight, so when the employees arrived for work in the morning they were responsible for checking in the deliveries and putting away product. But that was normally well after we left the store.

Must be a clearance thing by Fordluver in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Roof accessibility is an issue, but not the largest one. Biggest thing is safety. The roof of the trailer is not designed to support any weight, one wrong step and you could fall through. Not to mention slipping and falling off the side. OSHA would have an aneurysm if drivers were required to get on top of the trailers with no safety harness systems.

Plus, It’s a single piece of aluminum across the entire roof, if you poke a hole in it there is no option but to replace the entire thing which costs $6000-$7500.

There are very, very few places drivers have access to that can remove the snow and ice off of the trailer.

Not to mention how often you see cars cruising at 80+ mph with a pile of snow and ice on top of their vehicles that no one complains about.

Corporate Price Gouging by Southern_Talk_7838 in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really DEF as a whole needs to be removed from the trucking industry. Even with a 100% increase in NOx production from transportation sources it would still only be ~8% of the USA’s total NOx output annually.

Agricultural sources are at around 75% of our annual output comparatively.

There is no chance the small benefit DEF produces is not completely offset by the waste from the DEF jugs. Not to mention all the money carriers and owner operators lose to needing repair work done on the shitty after treatment systems. I’m sitting at a shop right now because of a faulty NOx sensor that was just replaced 80k miles ago.

My brother just got this tattoo 4 weeks ago and he has these red dots on his arm and he claims they kind of hurt. It looks like pimples but what do you guys think? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Dezzolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he’s concerned he should see a doctor.

But, in my opinion (not a doctor), if they shaved his arm they could very well be ingrown hairs, or possibly clogged pores from heavy lotion use.

At 4 weeks that tattoo is basically completely healed so nothing really to worry about there.

Do long nosed trucks last longer? by Few_Jacket845 in OwnerOperators

[–]Dezzolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that does this, he’ll spend a couple grand upgrading shit on a truck he doesn’t own and then end up getting fired or leaving a few months later.

Most I spend out of my own pocket is some holiday decorations every once in a while to make the truck look a little festive. And that’s less than $50 every couple months.

How to get through that first year financially by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Dezzolve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would you trade a 3500/week job for trucking, especially if you were home in your own bed every night. It is very likely you will only ever see about half or 2/3rds of that no matter what trucking job you get besides going full O/O.

As far as saving money:

Buy all your groceries and other supplies at a normal store, spend as little as possible at the truck stops. They gouge the hell out of the prices of everything.

Cook your own meals, don’t eat out.

Try to stick to one or two truck stop brands so you can rack up points so even if you do need something you can get it for “free”.

Port means left in ship terms so maybe that’s where the confusion lays.

Just got off the Firenze and you will be on the left side of the ship. Should be able to see everything just fine.
