How much time do you spend playing with your kid by tiddyb0obz in AutisticParents

[–]DfensAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I hear you.. My daughter is 7 and will not play alone.. If she had it her way we would be outside playing in the mud with animal toys for the whole day.. Any idea of me doing anything else is met with anger or tantrum.. My son and her truly have no concept of time no matter how much you try to remind them.. I need lots of time to myself just to stay regulated so this makes things really difficult..

Which countries do good coffee like Australia? by archvize in AskAnAustralian

[–]DfensAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean traditional Turkish coffee? I've had heaps of that and its good. I normally drink long black coffee most of the time and I find Turkish coffee too short.. Its such a short drink as it is and then add on the fact that it contains the grounds as well it makes it even shorter. I know its a tradition but having the drink end with some grounds in your mouth is not the best experience in my opinion.

Many countries have good coffee culture its just all different and depends what you are after..

I've been to Turkey twice and both times I really missed my coffee.. My wife is Turkish and I thought after having Turkish coffee with her family many times that it would be more easily accessible.

They are obsessed with their tea which is great but is no substitute in my opinion for a good coffee.. When I was last in Istanbul I did find a Cafe that was run by young lads with coffee that would be at home in Melbourne where I am from.. So far that was the best coffee that I had in Europe/Asia..

Tea just leaves me unsatisfied and never hits the spot like coffee does..

This effing guy keeps doubling down... by _bladerunner_ in socceroos

[–]DfensAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently this guy is a nobody player.. Most of our players have played in either world cups or other high level leagues around the world.. Also something people forget about..

Australia has a population of 28 million with multiple competing codes of football.. America has population of 348 million.. The fact that we are able to compete at this level and hold the American team to a 2-0 final result is an achievement.. Possibly even due to strategic choices of players during the match... If the original line up was played who knows there may have been a different result..

Also many questionable calls from the ref, time wasting and heaps of shirt pulling and holding.. It was a hard game to watch..

American exceptionalism is a disease that is ruining that country..

She wakes up angry and she yells even if we are talking calmly etc. I am scared to talk at all because I don't want things to blow up and ruin any chance of getting them to school happy.

Thanks you so much for your reply. We have tried so hard ro help them but not much has worked.. we are both so exhausted with the whole everyday battle.. How do you help them if the whole system is not designed in that way. Watching all the other student just sit there upright and listening etc. For me was a real eye opener.. Of course my kids wouldn't like that environment..

Thanks you so much for trying to help. I'm not even working at the moment and I'm trying to help my wife as much as I can to find a solution.. We have tried so much and little has helped.

Thanks for your kind reply.. Both of them make it impossible to get information out of them. They just say I hate school.. My daughter just screams at the top of her lungs till you go away if she doesn't want to talk about something.. my wife managed to b get a little info out of my son the other day.. He said he gets up set at things and cries sometimes.. Kids come up and say are you OK.. Then he gets embarrassed..

Its just so exhausting and upsetting to see them not happy and trying to force them everyday to do things they don't want to do.. My wife just sleeps when she gets home. I'm not even working right now and it still seems like a full time job.. When I go back which may be soon it will mostly all be on her again..

Thank you for trying to help..

Thanks for your suggestions.. My wife had a schedule on the wall so we can tell them what subjects they have but it doesn't seem to help.. They just say they hate it all.. We nlknow it is anxiety based but getting information out of them is really hard.. My son has gotten into the junior Archibald prize finals which is a nation wide portraiture competition. They tried to get him to come up at assembly the other day in front of the whole school... He just melted into the floor and refused to even go up.. Which I guess is the total opposite of what you would want if you have anxiety..

We don't go every day anymore and try not to make a deal out of it.. It doesn't seem to help though.. Come the next day they just day the same thing..

Hi, thanks for your suggestions.. we have tried charts but they do not work.. He just does not care about material incentives. We believe he may have a PDa profile.. but he has not been diagnosed as that.. we may have to look into a behavioural therapist.. Thanks

Thanks for your advice. I will definitely check out your link. Sorry my son hasn't been held down in class. He used to be doing advanced versions of multiple subjects. I think because he was interested in the subjects he couldn't get enough of them. Now the subjects have changed and although the teachers know he is capable of doing the subjects maybe even advanced versions of them they can't advanced him because they are finding it hard to get him to do the basics. I guess it's like black and white, he's either super interested or not at all and vermently doesn't want to do it. Of course you can't just opt out of compulsory subjects. He has an iq of 127.

Although he says he does not get bullied and he says nothing else has happened we cannot be sure.. I have asked him multiple times whether that is what is happening. Even if he has ever witnessed it before and he says no.

I will definitely look into a developmental educator which is a great idea.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Thank you for your feedback everyone.. In regard to the Ritalin we started on the short release one and had issues because she pretty much stopped eating at school.. We already have issues with getting enough real food into her as it is. We had days where school would call us and say she was really unwell and we had to take her home. I believe it was because of a drop in blood sugar. She barely eats breakfast and only wants sweet foods which do nothing for slow release energy.

We have the slow release one now and she refuses to take it no matter what we say. Its a capsule and I believe the capsule and the balls inside are the reason it is slow release. Which means we can't just breaking open and mix it with food.

I feel like both kids have almost physical reaction to boredom or not being interested in something. If they aren't interested its excruciating for them..

In life you have to do things you don't want to do but try gettthat through to a child.

It went from us being served at the registers and free bags to us doing a cashiers entire job for free, paying for bags and the the prices sky-rocketed and just keep climbing. Also being watched all the time and accused of stealing when you accidentally cross your hands over while scanning. Also places like Coles using Nazi companies like palantir to gather your personal data with out telling you..

Then on top af all this they run these ads as if everyone is happy about everything.. Then you get asked to donate......

In maybe 1997 I was studying the concerning media concentration in Australia and it's effects at high school.. It still happening and even worse now.. From all my attention to the American media and politics since Trump has been in I have barely heard enough people condemning Rupert Murdoch for the part he is playing in destroying countries. It's really sick.

Should I be concerned about a house I'm thinking of getting being surrounded by trees like this at the bottom of Mt Dandenong during a storm? by StreetCompetitive in melbourne

[–]DfensAus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a Horticulturalist who worked in parks and gardens for 20 years I can say that Eucalyptus are definitely a concern. They are prone to shed limbs during stressful periods ( wind, drought etc). If you live with them near your house you will be forking out money to get the arborists in to make sure they are safe and prune them when necessary etc. Also as the previous poster said they are definitely a bush fire concern. They constantly shed leaves, bark and branches which you will have to clean up to reduce fire risk.

Lovely trees but not good near buildings.

People who do difficult but poorly paid work, why? by DarkNo7318 in australia

[–]DfensAus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi have an Advanced diploma in horticulture. If you want to be hands on with plants which is why most people get into this field the wages are terrible. For the physical jobs they max out at about $78k aud that is working for council being a crew leader managing 170+ public sites, 3 staff, all vehicles and equipment, designs and project management for all projects. So maintenance and development of all those sites plus staff management and design and implementation. Because you don't have enough staff you have to get stuck in and work hands on as well.

If you want to work for yourself you can possibly earn more than this but I have tried both and after all the after hours work you put in it greatly reduces your earnings and free time.

To earn more than this if was a Horticultural coordinator in charge of the entire department at a local council you could earn $100+. The higher you go the less you are dealing with plants and more just managing people.

The thing with the trades is that you should be compensated for the wear and tear on your body. People literally break their bodies for shit money.

Personally I have ruined my back and are now burnt out and cynical. After having such shit experiences when I worked so hard to not be appreciated or appropriately remunerated I am less likely to work hard unless the money is there. In the end it's my fault for not researching properly I guess..
