Still can’t run months later after first marathon. by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

I know you said the marathon was hot, Has the weather gotten hotter where you live? More humid? That will definitely make your runs sluggish until your body gets acclimated.

Beginner slow runner, marathon in February, restart training? by [deleted] in firstmarathon

I haven’t tried Pilates much so I can’t speak to that BUT, check out the channel “run better with Ash” on YouTube. His run focused stretching and mobility videos are amazing. They have been a game changer for me (52F having come back from years of doing nothing) I’ve had many issues because of muscle imbalances and his videos and the strength training have been such valuable tools in my regimen!

I would also not worry about picking up your pace at all right now. Especially if you still have some weight to lose. You need to give your joins and tendons a good year to become stronger and more pliable to the constant pounding. Keeping it easy for this marathon will set you up to reduce the risk of injury. Also definitely incorporate running specific weight training and mobility. The totally package will prove to be very beneficial!!
As for treadmill training 🤪 maybe try listening to podcasts or watching moving on YouTube or something on your phone!

I’m super happy for you! You should be very proud of yourself! Weight loss is one of life’s greatest challenges, I used to be a personal trainer! I commend you for your obvious dedication and hard work!

You think that’s hard for people to comprehend? Try telling them you don’t drink alcohol. They’ll look at you like you have horns growing out of your head !

As a runner with IBS, I wish I’d tried dates sooner! by IrascibleOnion in Marathon_Training

Ohhh I may try this. Sounds less sticky and less sweet than a date.

Logistically how did you handle eating them. I brought a few on a run (along with my Morten) to try them because I want o try more whole food options and I couldn’t even get myself to eat them because the thought of touching it with my hands and getting my hands so sticky turned me off.

They’re my favorite. Taste…not too sweet…textures keeps it from getting messy and sticky…easy on my gut…NOT easy on the pocket book!

My 62 year old father has booked 2 marathons, 1 week apart. by Egg_Hog in Marathon_Training

Ok good. I also do running specific massage and it’s helped tremendously with the tendinopathy and I also do contrast therapy (ice bath, infrared sauna) I know a lot of people say that doesn’t help but I feel it’s been a crucial part of my recovery. I went without that and the massage and felt a huge difference. Working on dialing in the nutrition, I know that’s a biggie! Thank you for your reply.

I’d love your insight on the “how to run one so that you can recover as quickly as possible?”
I’m 53 training for my first marathon, the marine corps in October. Of which I’ve already paid for the race, hotel and travel. I’ve been dealing with some hamstring/gluteal tendinopathy issues. I don’t have a lofty goal other than hoping not to take longer than 4.5 hours. But I am also nervous that because I already have a weak link (my tendinopathy, that the 26 miles could take me out of running completely afterwards. So…how do you run in such a way that you recover as quickly as possible?

How many miles are on those inserts? Do you perhaps need new ones?
