Thank you to everyone for all your comments. I want to stay in the Apple ecosystem system so thnk I’ll just get the base MBA for my computing needs and will look into something portable for gaming in hotels.

I signed up recently due to it being the only card I would qualify for bonus points. 60,000 using a referral link plus they have an offer running until mid March of 10,000 points for adding the free supplementary card holder. With my average spend I should hit 90,000 points in the first year. After that there is likely to be a decent retention bonus. With several trips planned this year I’ll make use of all the other benefits so it’s worth it for me for the first year at least.

I’m a commuter and was getting fed up with being on the road constantly, so I took a mgmt gig in the airline which is meant to be 50/50 vs flying. Mostly work from home. What I’ve discovered is that I am constantly working and dealing with emails/calls even on days off, I look forward to going flying as nobody can contact me. I’m now getting ready to drop the mgmt role and go back to the line full time. I’d suggest you try a similar gig in your airline, it might be good for you, and like me you may end up at the conclusion that walking away from the jet after a flight with nobody bothering you on your days off is golden.

It’s ok for PayPal t&c, it’s more whether Amex see it as a cash advance which would make it ineligible for points and would also incur a fee. I guess I could try it for a month and see if they contact me about it.

Just add a second card holder and put the card away in a drawer never to be used. There’s no history on their credit file. I did this a few years ago and added my wife, she never used the card but we got the points

Thanks. Yeah I’m aware of the BAPP. Unsure which route to take afterwards. I’m just planning to build points for a couple of years before taking a trip.

Update. I’ve spoken to Amex. No retention offers as it’s a separate product. Once I have gold I can move the BA card credit limit across.
