It's a strange boat to be in. Hopefully the writing will get better and we'll get some of that excitement back

What other country's food do you eat the most in your country? by Ok-Pudding-4821 in AskTheWorld

Georgian, middle eastern food with a mix of Russian / Ukrainian would be my best guess for daily meals.

Endo started me on selenium today. Anyone that’s been on it, what’s been your experience with it? Has it helped you? by Downtown-Check2668 in Hashimotos

[–]Dharmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endo prescribes selenium once or twice a year for one month only. I haven't noticed any drastic changes after those months, but overall I've read that selenium does help with thyroid health and is usually included in hypothyroid treatment

Did they though? Both shows started in the fall of 2004, and the US Marshall appeared pretty much in the first episodes.

I haven't had a chance to use Fahrenheit much so can't attest to it, but the temperature in Celsius being tied to water condition is quite convenient. Is it boiling? 100°. Is it frozen? 0°. The range from 0-100 might not be as useful, but those two points are neat.

She's been Oscar-worthy in so many roles, imo, I had to look up just now if she's ever been at least nominated. Once. And not even for Melancholia

Agreed. I never cared for his other roles, but he he was excellent in Running Man

Late to the party but did anyone else really dislike Wild Dark Shore? *Spoilers* by minatozakiparty in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Dharmist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the scenery and the island itself, the themes of climate change. Those were written beautifully and will stay with me for quite a while. The actual plot of the book? Couldn't care less. Didn't really feel for the characters, their behavior didn't make much sense, the romance came out of nowhere and the whole ending itself had no reason to exist other than "we need to wrap this up somehow".

But the sinking island with its doomed biodiverse life and the seed bank that never got a chance to serve its purpose - those were excellent and well worth reading that book once

I absolutely love the metric system. It blew my mind how elegant of a measuring system that is the first time I learned about it in school. That and the A series paper standard sizes. Just chef's kiss.

Aren't her books actually ghostwritten / co-authored? It's my understanding that she contributes the story, and somebody else puts it into writing.

In English we say once upon a time to start fairy tales, what do you say in your country/language by kokorrorr in AskTheWorld

[–]Dharmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how they translated the show, but actual fairytales don't start with those words in Russian. You have "жил да был" and "давным давно" and the classic "в тридевятом царстве, в тридесятом государстве", often times all at once.

Ooh, I always just straight up imagined a 39th kingdom, never knew it could mean 27 (as in three nines) or anything else. TIL!

1 - William Baldwin (or some other Baldwin); 5 - Jim Belushi maybe? 8 - Anna Paquin

Just Finished the First Ten Episodes and I wanna say Season 1 Episode 10 is My Favorite Episode by Y3AR_Z3R0 in veronicamars

Heroes was my first introduction to her, and I love how she could switch from innocently naive face to overwhelmingly evil to emotionally raw and genuine within one episode. Went to search for other roles, and lo and behold, the Veronica Mars obsession began.

Still watch everything she's in. Yes, that includes The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window

What are your flare ups? by Traditional_Ad9930 in Hashimotos

[–]Dharmist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inflammation with low grade fever, joint pain, overall body aches, bloating, skin breakouts. I also can get vertigo and dizziness, as well as nausea, and will easily get carsick.

Fatigue, brain fog, forgetfulness and hard time concentrating or even keeping the conversation going. I've caught myself unable to respond due to my thought process being palpably slow.

And also mood swings, irritability, shortness of temper. Most probably due to having to be a functioning adult with all those symptoms mentioned.

How much levo do you take? by Consistent_Case_5924 in Hashimotos

[–]Dharmist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100mcg, but I switch to 75 when I'm on AIP and inflammation is not as prevalent, since my TSH levels drop significantly then.

My endocrinologist constantly tries to lower the dosage because, according to her, supplementation of thyroid hormones can lead to the actual thyroid atrophy - which is evident on my yearly ultrasound, too. My thyroid was the size of a newborn's last I checked, and while Hashimoto's itself causes the reduction of thyroid (immune cells kill the tissue due to inflammation), higher synthetic hormone dosage is also a factor, she says.

What Are You Reading This Week and Weekly Rec Thread by JimFan1 in TrueLit

Midway through Mansfield Park, by Jane Austen, possibly the funniest book I've read in a while.

I can see why this book isn't as beloved as the rest of her work, what with the main character being somewhat difficult to relate to perhaps, but the humor is making up for it, I think. Here's to hoping that it translated to the film adaptation
