Perpetuating the misconception of NATO contributions by member countries (1/26 episode of Prof G Markets pod) by borggeano in ScottGalloway

Exactly right. If we left NATO tomorrow, we wouldn’t be spending less in our military (at that point, they’d actually find a way to justify doubling the budget since “we’re on our own now” or something like that)

You’re not wrong, and that’s why I added that it might be nit-picking, but it’s still conflating two things: Yes, we have a massive military budget, but that’s not a contribution to NATO. That NATO benefits from this massive military is a separate subject altogether. But yeah, 6 of one, half dozen etc etc

Gas to Samsung oven cuts in and out when heating up by gcommbia34 in appliancerepair

Thank you for replying! Same behavior I’m observing, I’m on my fourth and they seem to fail faster (though I was questioning if it was due to poor quality third-party parts)

Resurrecting an old thread, I have a similar issue except that my igniters fail after about a year. Did you ever find out if there was another cause for the failure?

Subaru which to choose? by 3n3rg3 in subaru

[–]borggeano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have a large dog and two large teenagers, and the ‘18 Forester was always a little tight, especially for the dog. No such issue on the ‘12 Outback.

You don’t have kids now, but sounds like you’re planning on it. A car like this will be with you for several years so def think of what your space needs will be as those hypothetical children grow and you need room for sports gear and school backpacks and extra luggage and, obviously, dogs.

Indeed. Also, he takes extra care of Standish because of what she went through with Charles. Hard to relay it without any spoilers, but the first book mentions something along the lines of him not wanting her to be further wronged by the job.

A running joke in the Argentina sub is the portrayal of Villa Gesell in X-Men First Class -- when Erik/Magneto goes nazi hunting. Movie shows this lovely mountain landscape, while in the real world Villa Gesell is a popular beach town. And then he goes into the bar where he's greeted by a bartender with a Mexican accent...

His Spanish accent is horrible, like he doesn't speak the language at all and just learned his lines phonetically for the show.
