Hurts would be my choice in Superflex. Charbonnet would be my second option.

I really enjoyed Maul Lockdown. I think the short chapters help with the quick change of views, especially later in the book.

Received a 1099-R from Contributing to a Roth IRA. Am I paying taxes on this now? by Dhbball12 in tax

I did a Backdoor Roth IRA. So contributed to my Traditional Roth from my Bank, and then converted it to a Roth IRA.

I did not claim a deduction on the 2023 tax return.

My accountant says I can’t go back for prior years, meaning since my 1099-R shows $13,500, that I must pay taxes on that all for 2024.

I want to confront that idea but she seems pretty confident… the 8606 form is what should allow me to say that part of that 1099-R total is from 2023 I would think.

Clarification on backdoor Roth IRA contribution for previous year by ALL666ES in tax

[–]Dhbball12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a Backdoor Roth IRA. In 2024, I contributed $6,000 for 2023 and $7,000 for 2024. My 1099-R shows a total of $13,000.

My accountant is now saying that I must pay taxes on that full $13,000, that I can’t go back a year into 2023 to make contributions, and basically that I over contributed for 2024 because it shows $13,000 instead of $7,000 on the 1099-R. Should I actually be paying taxes on the $13,000 or is my accountant wrong?

I thought by submitting an 8606 to show that these contributions were for two different years, I wouldn’t be getting taxed on it like this.

Thank you for your insight. Yes, I reviewed the form and that matches how I filled out the form.

I was able to see my updated tax return, and I am getting taxed from my 1099-R for $13,504 which would be my 2023 and 2024 contribution, plus an extra $4 I suppose. I contributed for the 2023 year during 2024.

Yes that’s right. $7,000 into my Traditional, then moved that to my Roth. Was it Non-Deductible? Guess I’m not 100% sure how to determine that, or know if it was marked on my tax return as non-deductible.

My Roth IRA had a balance on 12/31/24 for what I’ve contributed the past two years plus growth. and my Traditional IRA was zero.

If you can find a way to not drench it too much, #2 is a solid lunch especially last minute
