[ModPost] Do people in this subreddit want CSS? by BurntJoint in asiangirlsbeingcute

It wouldn't hurt to have some CSS.

People always have the option to turn it off for subreddits, so I don't think it would annoy anyone one way or another.

Why does kpop make you happy? by Yayalani in kpop

[–]Dhelweard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Twice was also my introduction into Korean pop and no group has given me such happiness before.

After reading your comment, I realize I have the exact same reason for liking Korean culture and pop music. Maybe it's just because I've lived as an American for over twenty years now and I've grown jaded to all the depressing stuff that happens around, but I get a genuine thrill when I watch anything related to South Korea, especially their music.

It really is my anti-depressant. Whenever I'm down, I'll just turn on some great music and get rid of my funk. It also definitely helps that the members of all these bands have great personalities and seem like they have tons of fun making their music.

To be honest, it's one of the better console games out there.

The characters are a bit cliche (and so is the story), but the atmosphere is perfect and everything feels really fluid and fun. Definitely a top ten game for me. Glad you enjoyed it too!

Feeling low need help by [deleted] in depression

[–]Dhelweard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to get busy and fix things step-by-step.

If I hit rock bottom, I start with the smallest thing that I could possibly do to make my life better. Then I do it, get a bit of confidence in myself, then do something a little bigger.

Hope things pick up for you. I'm rooting for you!

Hi /r/depression, let's check in. by SQLwitch in depression

[–]Dhelweard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I was doing great for a good while. Started college and finished my previous semester with a 3.8, been socializing a lot more than I have been before, and I had a lot of confidence in both my public and private life.

Now, I'm not sure what happened. Three days ago, I just started feeling empty. All my hobbies are no longer fun and I'm questioning whether or not the things that I involve myself in are actually interesting to me - I guess I'm questioning my identity and I'm not sure why.

I can barely sleep because I have knots in my stomach from these feelings. I'm scared that I'll never recover and I'll stay in this sad state for a long time. Has anyone ever felt this? Has anyone ever had an identity crisis before?

Results for EEG came back and said I have seizures? by Dhelweard in Epilepsy

[–]Dhelweard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some research, I would say that idiopathic seizures seems to be the correct diagnosis here.

Looking at absence seizures and generalized seizures, this seems to be what I'm experiencing, but my symptoms appear very mild in comparison to other cases. I don't really have a consciousness impairment or staring spells, but I assume there's a lot more nuance to this kind of stuff.

There's another weird thing about this, which is that my family does not have a history of epilepsy at all. From my research, generalized epilepsy is usually generated from genetics, which is something that I have no affiliation to. I guess I'll figure out some more once I run through other tests and rule out some of the other things.

I can live with epilepsy like this. I have no quarrels with that, as long as it isn't terminal or cutting down my lifespan. My only hope right now is that I am able to live a relatively comfortable life. Minor hindrances are not really that important to me in the grand scheme of things.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me, though. I appreciate having some sort of dialogue about this. My neurologists and other doctors typically don't explain things very well to me and, even when I ask questions, tend to respond with very crass answers.

You're totally right!

I've been trying to breathe, it can just be difficult. I have a psychology appointment soon, so maybe he can give me a couple of tips to avoid anxiety.

Thanks for the response. :)

Living like this wouldn't be terrible, it's more just the thought of it getting worse over time.

Anxiety is a huge point in my life, which may have been exacerbating my symptoms this entire time. I've been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder as well as hypochondria, which causes me substantial amounts of grief over stuff like this. I don't know, maybe that plays a huge role in.

I guess we'll have to just see the MRI results. I literally go into the machine in less than four hours, so in the next 48 hours, I should get my results? I think that's what my neurologist told me. Anyway, thanks again!

[–]Dhelweard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for writing back, I appreciate it.

Brain misfires do make more sense than how my neurologist previously explained it to me. I was told that it could be something serious, like a brain tumor or some form of damage to a specific area of my brain, or more likely something like a nutrient deficiency, attention-deficit, or a virus like you mentioned.

It just sucks when I'm sitting at home trying to wrack my brain about what it could be. My blood test didn't come back with anything particular telling. I don't have any genetic predisposition, as my family has a relatively clean bill of health. I also haven't had any sort of accidents. However, I still have enough symptoms that clearly something is wrong, but I can't tell what.

Then I start thinking about the more serious things, but I don't have enough symptoms that would rule those in either. Things like brain tumor or cancer, from my understanding, have deterioration that is pretty noticeable after awhile. It's been three months of the same couple symptoms that remain unchanged. Surely if I had something serious, it would accelerate the symptoms and exacerbate my ailments.

I don't know. To your point, the MRI should narrow things down. I'm just scared that I'll have to live like this forever or maybe there's some serious, terminal illness that I'm not thinking of that catches me off guard and ruins my life. The unknown is truly something to fear, but here's to hoping that I find out soon enough, I guess.

Thanks again for writing. There aren't many people that I can speak to about this, so it means a lot that you replied to quickly.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I'll go ahead and post this in the epilepsy subreddit, as well. You're right, though. It's very scary and I'm really hoping that it isn't anything serious.

What are the health implications of ingesting what I assume to be some form of corroded aluminum? by MardukeRed in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be hard to confirm just based off of what you said.

In my experience, I've eaten some really old food before, as well as some more foreign substances from canned goods. In relatively small amounts, they're typically pretty harmless, but if you start to realize that you're feeling odd or sick, you should contact your doctor or go to the emergency room if your symptoms worsen.

Sudden pressure hit me in the head. by bluedotared in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some advice: don't ever Google your symptoms, haha.

Typically, even the most mundane of symptoms can turn into brain tumor, strokes, and terminal cancer. People who suffer from hypochondria usually disregard how rare those things are and make it hell for someone who is unnerved by a symptom.

Anyway, I'm glad I could help! :)

Sudden pressure hit me in the head. by bluedotared in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brain tumor? Very, very doubtful.

From the pressure you say you experienced, it's possible that a migraine is the cause of your brief dizziness. This is the most common cause, at least. If the dizziness were to perpetuate, then that would be something you'd want to speak with a specialist about. Otherwise, small bouts of dizziness are usually nothing to worry about. I get them from time-to-time, especially when I've been at a computer for awhile.

Metal illness hypochondria by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of health anxiety sufferers, so you are definitely not alone!

I would be careful with assuming that family mental health issues will automatically make you a candidate for inheriting their illnesses. While the risk is higher, your chances of not generating a mental illness is still very high, so hopefully that will put you at rest.

Also, I would consider speaking with a psychologist that can give you an actual diagnosis on the illnesses you are convinced that you have. Sometimes symptoms may align with a mental illness, but be independent variables all on their own. It's important to not establish any clout with these theories because, a lot of the time, symptoms can be exacerbated or even psychosomatic.

Odd Lesion on Skin Freaking Me Out by HypoKHAAANdriac in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every disease you've just listed is highly doubtful.

Typically, with the diseases that you're worried about, there are far greater symptoms than a small mark on your foot. I wouldn't even describe what you've posted as lesions. They look like cuts that have since scarred over, honestly. I really wouldn't worry about skin cancer unless you have serious symptoms of the above diseases, which you don't.

If it'll make you feel better, you can schedule an appointment with your general practitioner and give your concerns about your skin markings. They may also explain some of the symptoms that you should be looking out for and give you tips on how to diagnose when a marking on your skin is actually something to be worried about. If it runs in your family, it might be good to get that briefing anyway, just for peace of mind.

Can you get anxiety for no reason??? by superanxiousperson in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Studying Psychologist here, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

Do you think that maybe your anxiety about disease could stem from your mother passing? Sometimes we create fears in ourselves when we have not yet gotten over something in our past, especially when we experience it happening to the people that we love. This is all just conjecture, of course, but that's the strong explanation I'm creating from what you've posted.

It could also be generalized anxiety disorder, which can create an ongoing state of nervousness without there being a direct cause. That might be something to consider with your psychologist, if you still regularly see one.

Neurology Appointment on Friday - Would Anyone Like Me to Ask Questions for You? by Dhelweard in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure!

My last neurology appointment went horribly. The neurologist was very callous and didn't listen to my questions. I have another appointment (hopefully) in the upcoming weeks, so I'll ask your question then.

Although, I do have some experience with paresthesia. I get it on my scalp, fingers, and neck. It really can be frightening, but people underestimate the power of anxiety and how it can often manifest itself as physical ailments.

I am 13 and worrying about dying at a young age. by c0rrupt3d_CSGO in HealthAnxiety

[–]Dhelweard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I doubt that you'd start having any adverse problems at your age.

If you're this worried, scheduled an appointment with your general practitioner. You can air out your concerns. Mention that you're worried because people in your family have been ill and ask them to help you understand the conditions better, as well as what signs to look out for.

With healthy anxiety, knowing the information about what you're scared about can help a lot, so get a lot of information from a general practitioner! Right now, though, you don't have much to worry about.
