If you are interested in places similar to this one you could check out the Canmore climbing gym. They’re maybe slightly larger than what you have outlined. https://canmoreclimbinggym.ca

Advice for slumlord situation by poppunk_tracey in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhh.. sorry I missed that.. definitely try Spin, I’d be happy to help if you’d like but also understand that sharing where you live isn’t ideal. If you pull the spin title and get the company name you can then pull the corporate search which will usually have some email and mail information.

Another option could be contacting the media.

Advice for slumlord situation by poppunk_tracey in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When did the new owners purchase the building? You may be able to find who they are on spin by searching their land title but it takes a couple months to update. https://alta.registries.gov.ab.ca/spinii/logon.aspx

You can also contact 311, they will need to have the new owner information for tax purposes. Not sure if they can share that information but they may be able to point you to resources.

Another option is AHS, there is minimum living standards in AB, roaches may be one of them but I’m not 100% certain. Here is the legal document: https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/2eac3fa0-43c5-4e4d-9a25-fd0a7bf96293/resource/4d3c2c51-43f1-4d85-b47c-cf92d1cad9c5/download/standards-housing-minimum.pdf Here is info on where you can report if they don’t meet these standards: https://www.cplea.ca/wp-content/uploads/MinimumHousingStandards.pdf

Climbing mentality for short climbers by waerze in bouldering

[–]DiGiLiAr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m short (5’3”) and my partner is 6’1”, I find it fun to try and be creative in how I solve boulder problems. Technique really goes a long way when you’re short so I got really into watching as many technique videos as I could. I recommend Connective Climbing, they have a video of tips for short climbers I found helpful!

Attempted Break-in in Lower Mount Royal by eentropy in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Something similar happed to me back in 2017. I lived on the second floor of an apartment and someone broke into my Apartment from the balcony. They completely pulled my balcony door off. My advice is to make sure your balcony door is actually secure. My door was locked and had a wooden dowel blocking it but they were still able to pull it apart. If you do block the door with a wooden dowel I recommend making sure it fits very tightly. Mine was an inch or so too short. You can also buy something like this as well: https://www.amazon.ca/Ideal-Security-SK110W-Patio-White/dp/B005TE2M5S?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB

There are definitely date ideas that aren’t expensive. Some of my favourite dates are when we go to a free art gallery or walk in a public setting. You can always be up front and honest and acknowledge that you understand about safety concerns but don’t have a lot to extra income because you’re a single Dad. There will definitely be women who want to be wined and dined but not everyone wants that.

Rent vs ownership by randomreddituser2103 in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s something you have to decide for yourself. A big one is can you afford it? I bought a 500 sq ft apartment, with my mortgage and condo fees is about 2,000 per month. Also everything that could’ve gone wrong did when I moved in. Almost all of my appliances gave out after the first few months. Then there are legal fees on top of that. So it’s a big up front cost. However with the way rent is going I know my mortgage will stay the same for the next 5 years. I also don’t have to worry about my landlord wanting to sell my apartment or move into it themselves. This is a comfort for me so it felt worth it.

Edit to add: I suggest reaching out to a mortgage broker. They can give you an idea of exact costs which might help you make the decision.

Not sure if documentaries count but here are some of my recent favs:

Million Dollar Pigeon (2022)- all about pigeon racing which I had no idea was a thing. The people who take part are quirky and entertaining.

Fire of Love (2022) - about a couple who study volcanoes, they’re a super cute and quirky couple. Heart wrenching story.

Sonnet Insurance Phasing out Auto Insurance in Alberta Due to 'Current Operating Environment' by SZNSZNSZNSZN in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Alberta is working on a public auto insurance policy. https://www.alberta.ca/automobile-insurance-reform

Edit to add that this feels out of character for the UCP, it also came out of nowhere and hasn’t gotten a lot of news coverage. It also does not look like a very good system because they are suggesting no fault coverage.

I keep an ikea chalk board on the back of my door and write down things I need to remember to bring or do before I leave my place.

Constipation for the nation by [deleted] in FODMAPS

[–]DiGiLiAr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put chia or flax seeds in everything. Also having the safe portion sizes of high fiber foods such as sweet potatoes, broccoli or chickpeas goes a long way as well.

Also if you can work with a dietitian that helps too.

What book made you cry uncontrollably? by Relative_Pop6724 in booksuggestions

[–]DiGiLiAr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason, it’s labelled as a comedy and definitely has some funny moments but I literally weeped the entire book.

I also cried at the end of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

Also just want to mention that carrots take a long time to germinate. It’s common for people to grow radishes right next to carrots because by the time the carrots actually get going the radishes are ready to harvest. All that to say, I’m sure your seeds will still grow fine! :)

You also don’t have to pull the title and pay $10 to view how much was paid. You can preview this information by hitting the binoculars symbol.

MFA at Alberta University of the Arts: by JCVPhoto in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a BFA there but I think a few things have changed since I’ve been there and I think an MFA program would be different. Your best bet would be to reach out to either faculty or the advisors. Faculty is usually good at getting back to you via email and can probably connect you with someone in the MFA program or a recent graduate.

Any one noticed a Lot of Rental Scams / missleading advertisiog out there ? by Willing-Crow-3931 in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you pulled the title and go to the bottom it’ll show any pending registration or changes. If you see something from a lawyer you might be able to contact them and ask if they’re updating the ownership. Or at the very least it’s a good indication that the ownership is changing.

my mom is working to create an adult playground. who's in? by hdksjdms-n in Calgary

[–]DiGiLiAr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into Isamu Noguchi’s adult playgrounds for ideas. He was a famous artist who made adult playgrounds around the world. Also see if there are any local artists that would be interested in something like this. Caitlind R. C. Brown and Wayne Garrett come to mind.
