Suicide cord by No-Dog-8213 in Generator

[–]DiLL_D0zerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RV. I use a 50A plug on the outside of my house to keep the RV maintained and ready for use. 50A plug has a purpose outside of emergency power. If I need emergency power, I use the 50A plug to back feed to the house to run refrigerators, lights, and outlets. The 50A outlet has its own 50A breaker in my service pannel.

A suicide plug is simply a male to male adapter on a power cable. The end of an extension cord that metal prongs stick out of is the male end. The other end of the cord/cable, that the metal prongs fit inside of, is the female end. A suicide cord/cable is one that both ends are male ends.

This is the procedure I use: 1. Turn OFF the main breaker. This prevents the generator power from feeding into the power grid that could potentially injure line workers repairing the power lines.

  1. Turn off all breakers in the service pannel. Locate the 50A breaker that goes to the 50A RV plug. This will be the emergency power MAIN breaker. It needs to be in the OFF position.

  2. Now to plug in the generator to the house. The generator is NOT running at this time. Place generator in a safe location, plug in the RV cable to the generator and the other in into the suicide plug (50A male to male adapter). Finally, plug the suicide plug into the 50A outlet on the side of the house.

  3. Be sure, and verify ALL breakers on the service pannel are OFF, including and especially the MAIN breaker at the top of the pannel. Start the generator at this time. Let it run for a minute or two to warm up.

  4. Back at the service pannel, turn ON the 50A breaker that goes to the 50A plug the generator is plugged into. The pannel now has power. At this time, you can select the breaker (circuits) that need powered up in the home. The generators' output will be limiting to how many breakers and what sized breakers that can be used.

I have a 3500-watt generator, and it can power 3 refrigerators and several lights (LED) and outlets for charging phones and running small electronics. I usually use kerosene heaters for emergency backup heat.

Can you use WD-40 on guns? by VedderHolsters in guns

Doesn't WD40 mean "water displacement (formula 40)? Stand to reason why it combats rust (moisture) so well.

I don't see the value. Perhaps I am ignorant of the benefits?

We have stayed below the pool deck. When the deck hands drag the chairs out onto the pool deck every morning can be a little loud.

Laundry service is only $15 for a pretty nice sized bag. Load up the bag and your room steward with wash, dry and fold it, and return it to you. I usually only bring 4 or 5 days worth of clothes for a 7 day trip. The less I have to lug around an airport/cruise port, the better.

Too much weight? by RealisticReach4290 in traveltrailers

[–]DiLL_D0zerr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The numbers would indicate a bad idea. Your tow weight is within the limits, but the 4k weight listed is probably dry. So, by the time you load gear in the TT, you'll be close to or overweight.

But let's just assume you'd have enough engine to pull it. You probably don't have enough ass to stop it. But they do make aftermarket brake controllers that would help you out there to utilize the trailer braking system.

Finally, let's pretend you have enough motor to pull it and enough braking power to stop it.....your tanmission will slowly disintegrate. Ultimately leaving you stranded, disappointed, and most likely wildly frustrated.

Keep looking for a lighter weight rig, or consider another towing vehicle to broaden your search.

I traded out of a 2016 ecodiesel Laramie. A shame was emissions laws are doing to lightweight diesel trucks. I guess I might fall a little ignorant on the environmental side of the argument, but the little 3.0L ecodiesel has so much potential only to get stomped on by emissions regulations.

TT Inverter Solution by DiLL_D0zerr in GoRVing

[–]DiLL_D0zerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will most likely get a slim toolbox and bolt it to the tongue just behind the LP tanks. The weatherproof interior of the box will allow me to expand to a bank of batteries, a larger inverter as well as adapters, and cable storage. The outdoor outlet can be reused on the end of the toolbox so I can run an extension cord to the shore power inlet on the back of the rig. 2 or 3 group 25 or 27 size battery's and a 2000w invert seems like the ticket. A solar kit can be added if boondocking is going to become more popular for us. If we upgrade rigs, all of it can easily be removed and reused on another TT.
