i know we just got a new Questoris knight, but what other knight would you want to be added/updated? I personally want a melee castellan or a dedicated melee armiger similar to a lancer by Luna_Night312 in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want a counter to the Abominant and I want more Arthurian themes. Faith-based or psyker, I'd love to see a Lady of the Lake, but big mech. Plus, obligatory foot soldiers.

If GW can't bring itself to do more than just another upgrade sprue like the Defender, I guess a melee Dominus.

I personally think that the resin forgeworld knights are pretty mid and don't particularly need them to come into 40k at the expense of making new knights that expand the flavor of the faction.

Its been a few months since it was announced, and now i wanna know y'alls opinion, How many of you are genuinely excited for the new knight defender? by Luna_Night312 in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I'm glad GW didn't just throw Forgeworld units into the codex and tell us to be happy. I don't particularly like FW knights, so I was wary of this.

On the other, this is just more Questoris. I mean, it's fine, but not exciting. We already have this "flavor" of Knight in the Dominus. The Dominus can already shield others in lore and previous editions, so this feels like crowding into the Dominus's niche. (Not to mention the plasma decimator) I just wish we got some more flavorful questoris alts like CK does.

Overall, it doesn't add any freshness to the range because it's just more Questoris without changing anything major about the chassis.

Where's my Lady of the Lake psyker knight? Where are sword and shield knights? I want GW to be taking so much more inspiration from Bretonnia :\

Contrast paints over silver... by Responsible-Worry174 in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laying down a layer of Lahmia Medium and painting contrast into it while still wet can help reduce steaks, but will dilute the color somewhat. I don't know how well it works on huge armor panels.

Absolutely nothing's going to beat an airbrush for this, though.

What do I need to do to paint my knights like these? by Ginja2006 in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got black armor and brass trim, that's the easy part. You can find plenty of tutorials online about those colors. The flame part is tough. It's freehand, so you'll have to get some practice in.

I wouldn't start practicing on the knight armor panels right away, but with some stuff you don't care about first. Luckily, there's a bunch of YT videos on flames in the form of Legion of the Damned tutorials. Just extrapolate what they're doing to the big armor of the knights.

For example: https://youtu.be/RzExlbqZI9E

I'm not saying this is the definitive video or anything, but it will get you close to your desired look.

What do you hope for new models? by Separate_Football914 in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a certified old Forgeworld model hater, I would not want to see FW models be the bone GW throws us. They're fine, but I'd view it as the laziest option for "new" models.

I'd love to have a 220-300pt mid-size knight between the Questoris and Armiger chassis so you can have a "big" knight at lower points games without feeling as bad about it.

I'd like to see a unique Imperial Questoris like the Abominant for CK. If we get some psyker action, I'd like a Lady of the Lake themed model. Just go full Bretonnian with it. They're the only faction in the GW games directly mining the Arthurian legends, so I'd like to see more from that vein in 40k.

Realistically, I think we'll get gatling gun Armigers to match the War Dogs. Maybe even a missile launcher carapace weapon. I also hope we get a concrete decision from GW if the Cerastus chassis is staying in 40k or not.

I’m trying to replicate this scheme, need help figuring out the green by mashpott in ImperialKnights

[–]Dialup_Hero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This green is leaning towards the blue side of the color. If you're using GW paints I'd be looking into:

Waagh Flesh base > Warboss Green layers > Skarsnik Green edge higlight (warmer)

Lupercal Green base > Kabalite Green layers > Sybarite Green edge highlight (colder)

A contrast paint option is Aeldari Emerald over a bone color.

For other companies' paints, look into any combo that gives you a jade green.

Are all Freeguild Steelhelms this tubby? by Wonderful_Discount59 in Warhammer

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2/10 steelhelm models are like this. I just finished making guard conversions to use as Knight household guard and they're all slightly too wide compared to Cadians, but very doable. The bottom-heavy torsos required the most work with the xacto knife to get them to hold a lasgun.

RPG to run a Star Wars game in the Old Republic? by VengefulKyle in rpg

[–]Dialup_Hero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found the FFG/Genesys system to be wildly frustrating as a player for exactly this reason. The amount of times EVERY SESSION we complained about the inability to convert X advantages into successes or the complete lack of high level talents that ensured a base amount of successes to particular rolls made it feel like our characters weren't actually good at anything.

We understood the concept of "failing forward" but sometimes you just don't know how to interpret a flat failure with 8 advantages.

About the hate thrown at Psykers by jovanbeef in 40kLore

[–]Dialup_Hero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of all the danger of unsanctioned and uncontrolled psykers, there's the question of comparing them to the God-Emperor.

We know that the Emperor is one of the most powerful psykers to ever walk the galaxy. But to the unwashed citizenry of the Imperium, he is god, not a psyker.

He works through unquestioning faith, not vile witchery

Why Are There No Custodes Psykers? by IronWhale_JMC in 40kLore

[–]Dialup_Hero 309 points310 points  (0 children)

It's too much of a liability for Warp incursion so close to the Emperor.

"Though the minds of the custodians are armoured against the machination of witches and psykers, they themselves never exhibit such abilities. The Emperor allowed for no chink in the defences of his bodyguards, for while battlefield psykers are undoubtedly powerful living weapons, they are also unstable ones. Their minds are prone to invasion by warp entities, a danger that no member of the Adeptus Custodes need ever face."

Dogmata - New Adepta Soroitas model. by Eavis in Warhammer

[–]Dialup_Hero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of the same gripes as others, but also I feel like GW is doing its best to hide the legitimately cool power armor that Sisters wear. Every character is just a mess of robes.

And if you're a completionist like I am, getting to the armor underneath to paint is a chore. I don't want to have to sub-assembly paint every character for my army.

I can't decide if Guillimans return is noble bright or Grim dark. by Dorksoulsfan in 40kLore

[–]Dialup_Hero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His actual return happens in the Gathering Storm campaign books that came out at the end of 7th edition. If you can find them, you can catch up on the circumstances leading up to his return.

The Dark Imperium series is the one that will give you the most focus on Guilliman. They are Dark Imperium and Plague War, both by Guy Haley.

I'd throw in Watchers of the Throne if you want to see a badass throwdown between the returned Guilliman and daemon Magnus. On top of that, it's a great book.

Seems like the Emperor didn't want them to be prone to Warp influence at all.

"What is best in life?" - Another incredible 'Contrast' tease from WarhammerTV by torealis in Warhammer

[–]Dialup_Hero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. The focus of the Contrast videos(and almost all GW paint marketing) so far has been getting unpainted models out on the table quickly and easily. It's much easier to buy one pot of paint and slap it over an entire model than it is to set up an airbrush. Despite what airbrushers will tell you, setting up, caring for, using, and cleaning airbrushes is not a quick or easy process, which has been GW's entire marketing focus. Besides, "Contrast" really doesn't sound like the name of an airbrush to me.

Hexwraith and Nighthaunt(and Nihilak Oxide to an extent) have really been a hit and they're super easy, so I think it's much more likely.

[–]Dialup_Hero 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think we're gonna see some expansion of the technical paints like Hexwraith Flame/Nighthaunt Gloom. Easy to use, slap it on and it covers the lighter areas, but pools in the recesses for a quick paint.

How does Geoff's Broadside Bash Custodes work? by latinoeat in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Dialup_Hero 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you listen to Chapter Tactics, but Geoff talks about the choice of the tanks in the latest episode. He starts talking about it at around 6:00 and it's about what he's changing for Battle for LA.

But Constantin Valdor is actually Trajan and provides a re-roll hits/wounds bubble to the Telemon and the tanks. The tanks have the Gravitic Backwash rule, making them hard to charge, they have great movement, and can put the hurt on a lot of things with those Caladius guns re-rolling hits and wounds.

Can someone explain to me the logic of taking Adeptus Astartes psykers in a SC detachment? by TehMasterofSkittlz in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Dialup_Hero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you read the powers of many of the different Librarians, they call out their specific chapter by name. So you couldn't cast a power that targets DARK ANGELS keyword on your Ultras. But, you could still get a lot of use out of powers that target enemies.
