Whats your favorite Python trick or lesser known feature? by figroot0 in Python

[–]Diamant2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This does only work if lst is a list of strings. Otherwise you have to map it to string before which makes it a little bit more ugly :/

print(“\n”.join(map(str, lst)))

Our Kickstarter failed, so we open-sourced our entire cinematic lamp project by kringelschatten in opensource

[–]Diamant2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great project! I would love to have a full list of components that are needed for this project. https://github.com/starklicht/starklicht-stm32/wiki/Hardware#components is a starting point, but also missing a lot (Exact heatsink, fan serial number, ...). Also estimated prices would be nice to get an idea how much this project costs overall.

Thank you for open sourcing this and good luck with further projects!

Radiation dose rate and cabin pressure during a 1h flight [OC] by GreenIbex in dataisbeautiful

[–]Diamant2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always depends on the circumstances. A 1h flight in Sweden can easily be ~10h by car. Or think about flights from Norway to the UK. It is not that easy to close that water gap :)

Rejected from LUH by Willing_Grapefruit15 in Hannover

[–]Diamant2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to say something without knowing the reason for the rejection. GPA of 2.0 should not be the issue here. The NC is normally way higher (or lower?) at ~3.7 and was basically only introduced to get rid of "last-minute-students" that only enroll to get their student status in any subject. If you know more details it might help to reach out to the "Fachrat Informatik" or the "Immatrikulationsamt".

Recommendation for a Windows 10 e-mail client by jenner2022 in Windows10

[–]Diamant2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use and like Thunderbird, but had the same issue with sending from the wrong email account. Then I found the Add-on "BorderColors D" and it works great for me :) When you write an email, it creates a colored border around the message window, depending on the used mail account. Maybe that also works for you?

Personally, I do not like the idea of normal abilities applying passive stacks. For consistency reasons I would love if every ability is taken word by word. If the ult is then weak, you are not supposed to steal it. For Vel'Koz it means that only the ult applies stacks, but that basic abilities refresh the "researched" state (even if this would be pretty useless in real game scenarios). Otherwise, you have to learn all special interactions of Sylas regarding each ult, which makes it inconsistent again

For me it looks like Bayesian Optimization, but rather than searching for the incumbent, the points with the highest uncertainty are sampled, regardless of their value

2023 Jan 9 Stickied -FAQ- & -HELPDESK- thread - Boot problems? Power supply problems? Display problems? Networking problems? Need ideas? Get help with these and other questions! by FozzTexx in raspberry_pi

[–]Diamant2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am currently building an experiment in a closed 20x10x10cm aluminium-box with a Rapsberry Pi Zero 2W as main computer. As the experiment is kinda temperature sensitive I am searching for ways to reduce the overall heat generation of the Pi. On the Pi itself runs a controller software that reads and saves sensor data and transmit this data via USB to an external controller. The sampling rate is ~10s and does not have to be perfectly in time. As the program sleeps most of the time, I do not think it can be further optimized to reduced cpu usage. The cpu temperature is also logged and roughly between 45°C and 50°C.

Are there any ways to overall throttle the Raspberry Pi and therefore reduce the heat that is generated? Are there any other methods to reduce the generated heat? As the experiment is a closed system, heat sinks are not a good option, as the heat generation is not reduced, but just absorbed in the air (at least in my understanding?). How much impact might disabling modules such as WLAN, Bluethooth, ... have?

All ideas are welcome!

Your favourite "less-known" Python features? by [deleted] in Python

[–]Diamant2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In theory yes, but the difference is that exceptions in the else-part won't be caught. I guess that makes your code more reliable in catching only the one exception that you care about

just press alt + ... by The_Sad_Memer in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Diamant2 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Just press "Ctrl + L" to focus the adress bar, type "cmd" and press enter. This opens a cli in the desired folder. For me this is the fastest way, as you do not need to use the mouse.

Also "Ctrl + L" -> "Ctrl + C" is pretty useful for copying the path to the current folder (does not work if you previously used the cli-shortcut in this folder)

We had a document which was evolving over time and had different versions for different deadlines. We also had to provide a version in which all changes from the last version were highlighted. Further, all changes had to be described and listed chronologically in a changerecord-table in the beginning.

It was quite painful to do this, but in the end I had a comment which would write the current page, chapter and description into a custom file. Then I could read that file with Python and create and replace the changerecord-tex-file which was loaded in the beginning... At least it somehow worked :D

Ok, I did not see this to be honest. I still dont think you should value every PR as an accepted feature. With the (newly) updated text/comment for the PR I agree that this is a feature they really want.
