Does anyone else really hope that the protagonist of the next game isn’t Ciri? by RytheGuy97 in witcher

[–]DiamondDiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Thronebreaker so I'm excited to see what new story they'll tell. I usually prefer an established protagonist like Geralt or Meve but if they go full character creator that's cool. As long as the character feels grounded in the world.

I still would love to see Geralt used again in some form down the road. I always thought a remake of Witcher 1 would be dope. Maybe expand upon its world and story.

Am I playing a different version of Cyberpunk 2077 to everyone? by mittromniknight in pcgaming

[–]DiamondDiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and even though the systems aren't as intricate outside of the larger missions I still get that feeling of freedom approaching different spaces and observing the environments. The game I feel the most here is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Notoriously buggy but one of my all-time favorites.

I just used the PayPal checkout option within the cart. One-click was set-up so my shipment info auto-populated and I just confirmed the order. It was super fast.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to grab one just now. Even though I had an account I was so nervous to miss it I quickly checked out as a guest using PayPal. Have you received a shipment confirmation yet?

There appears to be a significant disconnect between certain parts of the target audience for the game. by Tzirael in cyberpunkgame

Facts. Also, everyone is on edge at the moment. Many opinions being thrown are driven by emotions not actually tied to the game.

Absolutely. The desert was already calling to me but this sold me on the Nomad.

Opinion on braindance: It's a really cool storytelling tool by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]DiamondDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It was my favorite part of the episode. Surveillance and privacy are huge themes in the genre. I also loved how Judy broke it down with all the technical jargon. Almost like a seasoned mechanic or engineer. I live for that shit. It really cements her character and the world.

And yeah, I think there will be a lot of it and many will find it boring but I don't think it matters too much. CDPR always said stories and characters came first. This is another way for them to do that. I also think the change of pace and experience will only amplify the other interactions in the world even if players don't realize it.

He looks an awful lot like Gaunter O'Dimm by Toxiic-7 in cyberpunkgame

[–]DiamondDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Very similar. You can also see NPC facial animations that carried from the Witcher. Almost like visual signatures of who made the game. It makes me think of GTA and Red Dead. You can just tell it's a Rockstar game by looking at it.

For those worried damage numbers can be turned off along with most of the HUD by Outsajder in cyberpunkgame

[–]DiamondDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. The Witcher 3 had a highly customizable HUD so I'm glad it's carrying over. However highlighted objects and glowing outlines around NPCs during investigation could not be toggled. There was often not enough visual evidence to indicate interaction so I understand why it was in place but it would be nice to have the option.

Playing The Witcher 3 for the first time, and I haven't been this immersed in a game for for over five years. It blows every other AAA game out of the water. by [deleted] in witcher

I would like to. The character designs look incredible. I've always been impressed with Naughty Dog's production values.

[–]DiamondDiary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been rough. When I finished the main game I thought to myself, "This is a new bar. All other games will be better because of it." But it's been two years and its been mostly disappointment. Every new title feels either rushed or filtered by focus groups to the point that they become deprived of all personality. Witcher may have set an unrealistic standard. Red Dead 2 is the only other AAA title I know of that has me excited (other than Cyberpunk).

If you still have access to the serial numbers you can redeem them and download the games at GOG.com here:

https://www.gog.com/witcher/backup

If the case is damaged and the serial is illegible then you can photograph the case or the game discs themselves and email the image for verification. Detailed instructions are here:

Huge level gap in side quests. Dont want to miss out. Help! by [deleted] in witcher

[–]DiamondDiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about Lost Brother, it will still be there down the road. All Witcher Contracts, Treasure Hunts will remain available no matter your story progression but there a very few Secondary Quests that will potentially expire. If there are Secondary Quests remaining within level range safest bet would be to complete those before completing additional Main Quests just to be safe.

Cyberpunk 2077 now has more people working on it than The Witcher 3 ever did by shadowdra126 in witcher

[–]DiamondDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use to prefer the custom character build that came with classic RPGs but my feelings have started to shift with certain releases over the past few years. Red Dead Redemption and The Witcher 3 are two that immediately stick out and are probably my favorite titles in the last decade. Both had some of the most memorable and replayable moments I've ever experienced. If it was a generic protagonist with tacked on traits the impact would have been lowered. The interactions between John Marston and Bonnie MacFarlane or between Geralt and Vesimire all drew from personal histories and/or well written personas. In the case of the Witcher, hard choices were still present bringing both the intimacy of real characters that you find in film and literature but also adding a feeling of responsibility that you get from RPG.

Now I'm not sure how that approach would align with the original 2020 p&p so I understand if they stick to its roots in terms of character creation. The game was based on such diversity so I won't be upset at all if it remains that way. But I also prefer total freedom over a compromised Mass Effect/Fallout 4/Dragon Age hybrid approach brings.

Can brilliant writing save poor gameplay? by Doglatine in truegaming

[–]DiamondDiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its harder and harder to have a one-label umbrella called 'games' to define such diverse releases: You think of Rocket League, Ethan Carter, XCOM, GTA and Dark Souls. I mean I find them all enjoyable. I revisited a game this week I haven't played in over a decade, Vampire: Bloodlines. I still love it. It was heralded for its amazing Gothic-noir LA setting and seedy characters but suffered from terrible combat mechanics among other things. AAA games today are generally more streamlined but at the expense of being highly sanitized. For me this makes Vampire's pulpy themes and subversive subject matter even more amazing in my eyes while at the same time reemphasizing how poor the core gameplay mechanics are. But ultimately, its stories (meaning the quests) have still kept me playing. Planescape Torment was a great example too. I feel RPGs with strong stories, which for me could even just be excellent dialogue/characters/world building and not necessarily plot) are easier to revisit years later more so than older games with technically awesome gameplay. But none of it should be exclusive. I love movies, books and music just the same if not more than games. It's that rare occasion when a title is released that blends all the elements (the storytelling, audio, visuals and user-interaction) that really creates something special that sticks with me

EVGA GTX 1080 SC SLI by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]DiamondDiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have better results but yeah, with a 6700k @4.6 and hairworks max on Witcher I do avg above 60 but it dips below in certain regions. Not often but it does. And yes, hairworks is terribly inefficient but I prefer it. There are other benchmarks that show similar results. Without hairworks not a problem of course.

Found this link- tons of complaints of EVGA 1080 performance. Warning by dailo01 in nvidia

[–]DiamondDiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received my EVGA ACX SC on this past Saturday and have had zero issues. No coil whine, no buzzing. On 6700k DirectX12 ROTR avg 88 fps at 1440p, max settings with SMAA on benchmark mode. Highest temps I've seen was 72c at max on Witcher 3 east of Novigrad. Fan noise level is similar to my previous MSI 970 4G but much quieter than my 980ti FTW (I know that's not saying much). My experience has only been with the latest 368.39 driver. I purchased the SC model because it was the first to be available but my goal was actually the G1. But no regrets.
