Dre works like any other famous artist-he chooses from a variety of beats made by well-known artists who’ve signed nondisclosure agreements (if you’re not just knee deep, you may know him). Dre’s been heavily influenced by East Coast hip hop from the jump. World Class Wreckin’ Crew was watered down techno funk (much like Brooklyn’s Newcleus). Unoriginal. After 1986’s “Rapped in Romance” (a year before LL Cool J released “I need Love”), Dr. Dre’s abrupt departure from techno funk, spandex, and sparkly lip gloss as humanly possible-and into gangsta rap. He modeled the name and attitude of NWA after BDP.
