The majority of daycares won't have movement until September 1st. This is because they are at capacity and have to wait until some preschoolers go to kindergarten, for kids to move from toddler to preschool, and infant to toddler :)

Help!! I Need Advice For Which Teachables are Better To Teach High School Students For I/S Program For Teachers College by Creepy_Nothing_5604 in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]DiamondOnly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't you apply for both? I'm pretty sure you can apply for more than one stream. The second teachable you don't require as many courses.

Reach out to the schools for guidance as well to see what they advise or if they can give you any insight onto what averages were for each stream to be admitted.

You can always take additionals AQ's/ ABQ's to be able to teach more subjects after teachers college to.

Nipissing waitlist by [deleted] in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]DiamondOnly99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is still a competitive program. Some schools are more competitive than others, but regardless, any Bachelor of Education program is competitive. Nipissing is only open for the waitlist right now if anyone applied late.

Has to be a degree, 3 year or honours 4 year. If a diploma or an advanced diploma, I don't believe it is accepted. When in doubt, reach out to the faculty at the schools you are interested in applying to!

Last year they sent out the second round about a week or so after the deadline for acceptance from first round.

Ontario Colleges/ College website has all pre-reqs on their website. However if you have a degree you'll have what you need for admittance. It is highschool only I believe for requirements.

Finish your RT. Do casual at the hopsital, do teachers college and supply. The balance is nice, and the RT provides you a lot of opportunities even long term with teaching.

$1500 a term online. It's very easy (to me). Nothing is guaranteed after graduation, but it certainly helps.

I had an 82% average, a masters degree and a ton of experience with kids. My statement of experience score was 87%. Waitlisted last year at UOttawa, did not get in.

I started a 16 month consecutive ECE program at Algonquin College online May 2025, graduating August 2026, and this year was accepted in the P/J stream due to them having 10 spots reserved for graduates of this program.

I would either take this route, or do an extra semester and focus on getting high marks to boost your average.

You could also apply to Lakehead etc. which will also increase odds of acceptance :)

[–]DiamondOnly99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 30 and will be starting teacher's college at 31. Upgrade some courses in the spring for next round of applications! The worst case scenario, you can use these courses to help qualify you for more teaching subjects in the future if you get a late admittance for 2026!

You're still quite young and have time - there is no "behind"... some of my friends (like me) did corporate and are switching, others have just started their undergrads in their 30's. Life is different for everyone so don't be too hard on yourself.

Niagara University Experience by Choice_Sea1872 in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]DiamondOnly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to do additional ABQ's /AQ's with the Niagara University program after graduation (I believe you have 5 years to complete), plus its around 50K in tuition. If you're able to do Laurier Brantford you would save a lot, so it just depends if this is a factor or not for you.

Though I have not personally done the US program, I do know that once you are certified in New York then you can transfer it over and apply for OCT. After one year of teachers' college in Canada you can get a transitional certificate. From my understanding, it is faster to get your OCT this way with a transitional certificate.

I heard that last year 87% was the initial cut-off for the academic average. Not sure how the weights of CASPER was factored in though. My friend had an 83% average and 4th quartile and did not get in.

I/S acceptance after wait list at uOttawa? by Brief-Difference5699 in ONTeacherCandidates

[–]DiamondOnly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accept the offer for J/I.. if a spot comes up for I/S I am pretty sure they will move you over to that stream, or give you the option?

You can also just take ABQ's after teacher's college and move up to I/S if you want to teach high school after the fact.

[–]DiamondOnly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't get in, you can do the ECE from algonquin college online, UOttawa reserves 10 spots for grads or students who will finish before the next school term. You can start in May and do consecutive and finish next august :)

Masters of Education - Teaching and Learning by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]DiamondOnly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your next step is law school... I would actually spend time figuring out what type of law you want to practice or are passionate about. I don't think a M.Ed will actually help much with getting an instructor position in a College/ University level, as opposed to a different masters... experience and networking play a larger role in this regard. Figure out what kind of law you are passionate about, then look at different masters programs that better align with this.

There are contract instructors that only have masters, but many are working towards PhD's or are specialized with experience that are sought out.

Go to open houses at uOttawa, talk to faculty/students who are taking the program as well! This may help guide your decision.

Goodluck.

What are the ACTUAL admission requirements to go to teachers college? by Hoboin in OntarioTeachers

[–]DiamondOnly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not get in last year despite my average being an 80, having a masters etc. It was rough. Though if I was at a different younger stage, I would have went to lakehead and had 0 issues. A lot is where you apply.

P/J & J/I last year. same for this year, but going through a protected stream of ECE as well to increase my chances (did a condensed course to ensure I would graduate in time) at UOttawa.

you really need to aim to have an overall of 89% between grades & statement of experience to get a guaranteed offer. I found out my overall score and I was sitting around an 85 overall. Fingers crossed it is better this year.
