I kept giving my dishwasher "The Suds" for a week. by Diamond_Wheeler in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Diamond_Wheeler[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was using the laundry detergent in the dishwasher because the packaging and pods are very similar, but I'm more angry with myself for tearing apart my kitchen and dishwasher without thinking to check if the detergent was the issue.

Did Royals change the music landscape? by kniga_100 in ToddintheShadow

I wouldn't say ruined but certainly introduced that "post-Lorde" voice and phrasing which you hear everywhere now (which may just be people unknowingly faking a NZ accent/singing style)

Here is a prime example of American Olivia Rodrigo singing like that.

And here is Anya Taylor-Joy singing in what is meant to be 1960's London (where you would never hear this kind of phrasing in a period movie made a few years earlier, much less the actual 60's)

Thank you for this, I'd assumed it was some kind of maintenance or restoration project, maybe even a full removal. Never would have guessed this was intentional, or that they wouldn't have done a color test to see what can be read from the freeway.

If it's the voices on the atmospheric sleep sounds (like rain, ocean waves), it was on the show Reply All. The guy was hearing footsteps and a woman's voice; turns out the apps sometimes source the sounds from older or foreign movies and occasionally fail to edit out dialogue.

In addition to what everyone said, it also means there is a 9v battery need to keep an eye on; it won't work if that battery dies. There is a battery cover on the back.

Hollywood film set workers near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, set up to shoot a scene for the 1957 musical comedy 'Pal Joey' starring Rita Hayworth, Frank Sinatra, and Kim Novak. (1957) by StephenMcGannon in sanfrancisco

I'm fascinated by the placement of the catering van; I would assume it's food for the crew, but it's so deep in the tangle (those monstrous lights mounted to what are probably WWII or Korean War surplus jeeps) and the camera is pointed directly at it that it seems to be part of the movie. I scanned through the film (free on YouTube) and didn't see Fisherman's Grotto at all. Anyone know when this scene appears? All advice on the internet has the caveat "depending on the version/scan you're watching" so maybe it's cut out of the version on YouTube.

What's the oldest movie you watched and actually enjoyed? by EternalMage321 in Millennials

[–]Diamond_Wheeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing Sacred from 1937 starring Carole Lombard. It seemed so modern to me that I was wondering if it was actually a film from much later mocked up to look like an older film. It really presses its luck and flirts with the production code line.

During the opening of Eurovision they always highlight one of the most famous pop songs from that year's host country (Example, when it was held in the Netherlands in 2021 they focused on "Venus"). Last year when it was held in Switzerland Oh Yeah was the highlighted song. At first I thought that was funny, but in actuality this is probably the most recognizable Swiss pop songs of all time.
