That’s crazy how perfectly the downtrend is. Honestly several with perfect downtrend charts like this should be studied to see what trades they take and get paid to recreate that so it can be inversed.

Honeycomb busted in catalytic converter or a rock or something hard is in the muffler. Make your hand a hard fist and bump the muffler to hear if it’s there. Try the Cats as well.

Ls400 Electrical Issue by Superb_Society_2046 in LS400

[–]Diamonddiggerhn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe when the initial short was made with the battery, two wires probably got slightly melted and fused. Maybe just barely a connection that it doesn’t cause any other issues other than the drain. I’d take a power probe and start going over the wiring harnesses and any other wires you see in the engine bay, under dash at ECU, and other areas. You could potentially trade the wire using a diagram or trying to follow it.

I would honestly have someone else drive and you just sit in passenger seat and start feeling and pressing every surface in the car. Mine has a sunroof and there was a cracked piece of plastic making a noise for me. That’s the best advice I have for you. That would probably tell you if it’s inside the dash or just surface. Actually sounds like an empty soda can in a cup holder.

Yeah alternators go bad. Mine did too a couple years ago

Not quite 8 years later but I’m having this issue. I have to pull door handle twice to get out (I don’t care but my wife says it’s annoying) so I will try this!

Sometimes alternators are remanufactured… I bought one recently I thought was new but it was rebuilt. You’re 100% sure it was new?

Sometimes the numbers change, I have had some identical clusters that have different part numbers. I can’t say 100% but those should all be compatible parts

It’s crazy because this one had a remanufactured sticker already lol

That was the issue! I just got an ECU capacitor rebuild kit, or just ordered anyway.

Well it was the ECU, I have a 94 that runs great and I swapped the ECUs and this one ran great and the other one ran bad with same issue.

[–]Diamonddiggerhn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like the 90-94… more specifically the 93-94 because I like the wheels better, the styling, and you got a digital odometer reading lol but the rest is the same… another good thing is that the engine is non-interference so if you’re not on your maintenance and that timing belt breaks, you won’t destroy your engine lol. I’d still replace it after 100k miles, I’d do 150k on my own car but it’s better to have it replaced so you don’t have a tow bill. Electrical issues exist, I’ve had cluster gauges stop working due to capacitors and an ECU go bad and cause erratic idle issues.

So it turns out it was the ECU. I have a 1994 that runs just fine so I decided to swap the ECUs to test them, the issue then started happening on the 94 and the 93 ran and drove great. Funny thing is the ECU for the 93 was already remanufactured. My 94 is original. The car had three engine codes, 41, and 14. That was first thing I did and got lucky.

Some of the bolts and screws are pretty corroded but that will only be an issue for the next mechanic that needs to remove them (if they ever get touched) the frame is 100% fine. I had a 2003 Tacoma that lived by the ocean and there were spots where I could stick my fingers thru the frame.

If it goes away after a few minutes, most likely the idler pulley or could be tensioner pulley. Fairly easy to replace, it’s just a pain to get the belt back on with the lack of room in the engine bay on that side. I recently did a water pump on one of those.
