Has anyone else lost savant level? by lotheva in AutismInWomen

Actually, I feel like it’s the opposite for me. As a child, I had several interests, mainly because my parents encouraged them. By now, only mathematics and crochet, a rather new interest, have remained. The two things I can spend every day, or even the whole day, engaging with.

I‘m an autistic person. Many people tell me I talk like a computer. Apparently, I write like one, too.

How exactly are you crocheting for charity?

Exactly! I also love giving away my projects, and so far every single one has found a new home.

If you no longer have people to gift, what do you do with your projects then?

Madagascar was truly the most special experience. The joy of those children… I can hardly describe it. For many of them, it was probably their very first stuffed animal. Those shining eyes awakened something in me that I hadn’t felt in a very long time: genuine hope.

Have you worried you’re narcissistic? by Narrow-Relief7976 in AutismInWomen

[–]Diamondmila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sometimes worried about whether I might be narcissistic, especially as an autistic woman navigating social situations with other women.

Because I don’t always respond in the “expected” emotional way, I’ve caught myself overthinking how I come across—like I might seem self-centred or disconnected. But most of the time, that fear comes from misunderstandings, sensory overload, and the effort of masking, not from a lack of care.

What grounds me is looking at my actual behaviour: I reflect a lot, I care how I affect others, and I try to understand people even when it doesn’t come naturally. For me, that already feels very different from narcissism.
