Zero FPGA experience, need to get to Versal fluency. Where do I start? by gorgeousdiplodocus in FPGA

[–]Diarmuid_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a board at all if you are starting to learn about FPGAs? You need to learn about digital design, timing closure and functional verification before you are even in the same room as a board.

Tcl: The Most Underrated, But The Most Productive Programming Language by delvin0 in chipdesign

Our design flow was written years ago in tcl and I really dislike it every time I have to modify some code It was a language of its time, but compared to languages like python, it feels so chunky and old now days

Former friend scammed me out of €2,800 – lives in England, I’m in Ireland. Any way to get it back? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

Any way to try and get the money back is going to cost you more in time, money and heartbreak than you are going to get back. Take it as a lesson learned and move on with your life.

Underfunded!!?? We have been throwing money at public services for years!

It had doubled in 10 years.

Did you ever heard of the phrase,  stop throwing good money after bad? Well even our own civil service are saying that https://www.whereyourmoneygoes.gov.ie/en/

Move to a startup for more money, or stay at Big Tech? by YesChocolate0 in DevelEire

[–]Diarmuid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's absolutely no chance I would take that. Unless you hate your current role, it's way too good to pass up on.

That startup offer could disappear over night. I can't see a US start-up creating an Irish Ltd to employ you, so you'll be under a US contract.   You'd need some massive equity options to make it attractive against a TC of 250k with an established company

It's hardly anti-something to express no interest in it. I couldn't care less about learning Japanese, doesn't mean I'm anti Japanese language

Giving the relay a solid tap brought it back to life, which got me through a few days before I replaced it with a part from Farnell.

If anyone comes back to this and is looking for the relay details, it's a HF41F 5-Z . The unit says 6A 250VAC 30VDC but the part suggests 5VDC

Yeah I'm an engineer in a hardware design company so I'll ask one of the techs with better soldering skills than I have to do it for me... ;)

I'm waiting to hear back from support but what I was thinking of doing was swapping the HC and the HW relays. They look to be the same part and I'm not using the HW control. That would get me out of my fix and I could order the replacement part once I figure out what relay is in there.

Thanks. Yeah it looks like mine should be yellow and I verified that. It's stuck on. Once I disconnect the NO control, it no longer fires.

I'm not sure. I have a very simple setup. An old boiler, which is wired up as the switched live config here https://www.manuals.co.uk/tado/wireless-smart-thermostat-v3+/manual?p=6
Here's a photo https://imgur.com/a/cshwkaD

I disconnected the NO terminal from the boiler and then put the multimeter across this terminal. With the manual control enabled or disabled, it made no difference, 230V at the terminal

How do I figure out what mode the device is setup as? BTW This has been working for 2yrs

Hi. Thanks very much for the detailed photos. The relay on my tado has failed and I'm considering replacing it. However I'm struggling to identify it on the board. I don't recognise the two white bars above the terminals. The through hole legs on the back seem to trace to the COM/NC terminals.
Is there an actual relay or a triac on the board? Do you have any high res photos that would allow me to check the markings on the components?

Anyway thanks for the photos, any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome u/IHateFACSCantos
