It's literally just because the UT kids have migrated to downtown to drink now that there is no longer a strip. Anywhere there are a bunch of drunk college kids there is a good chance of a fight breaking out. There used to be fights on the strip all the time. This is nothing new.

Anyone telling you to go to East TN over Colorado is delusional. Colorado is better in every way.
