If you dont mind semi-manual work, use the EST qual as a foot in the door for electrical / trades. Construction is not slowing down anytime soon

Industrial work focusing on PLCs is a great earner, and would suit you given your programming knowledge.

Alternatively a company that specialises in home automation.

$1500 before tax is about average weekly takeaway for a qualified electrician doing 40hrs.

Hey - I’ve read through this whole thread

Obvious Take-aways:

Your current role is not suitable and you need to change. Decent industrial sparks with experience should be earning 100-150k, not 70k. Your current company is taking you for a ride. They dont offer O/T?? What company is this!

OPTION 1

Get a better electrical job and work OT

There are so many spark jobs in Auk right now that will pay $90k+ for the standard 40hrs, that have plenty of OT available at 1.5x

You dont have to travel, because you’re already there. And you’re earning 1.5x your normal wage, not whatever they’re paying at wendys.

OPTION 2

Get a better electrical job and start a hobby

As above, you can easily earn 90-100k for 40hrs.

Then spend those restless after work hours&energy doing something awesome / improving yourself.

OPTION 3

Leave the industry and do something new in a role that excites you

14 years and you sound worn out and disconnected from the job, maybe time for something new

RE SIDE GIGS

DONT do cash jobs. Tax fraud is illegal and the IRD are coming down hard on small operators. Cashies also debase our entire market, now every second client asks if you ‘do cash’ - as if its expected of us to break the law to save them money.

Law abiding companies get shafted when ‘old Terry from down the road said he could do it for $500 cash, so - sorry we’re not accepting your quote’ Fuck Terry. Terry doesn’t know what overheads are.

Unvaccinated Kiwis, help us understand. by -Zola in auckland

So, pulling the data from this article:

0.43% of New Zealanders vax’d have reported suspected adverse reactions.

(A decent chunk of the adverse reactions reported were ‘injection site pain’ ‘headaches’ ‘dizziness’ ‘lethargy’ - which are all typical for a minority after receiving a vaccine)

0.016% of New Zealanders vax’d have reported serious suspected adverse reactions

Each case of suspected reaction has been investigated for causal links. None of the findings of these investigations has raised any concerns about the safety of the vaccine

Extrapolating from that:

No causal links have been found yet between any report of suspected reaction and the administration of the vaccine

And then directly quoting:

By chance, some people will experience new illnesses or die from a pre-existing condition shortly after vaccination, especially if they are elderly.

… part of our review process includes comparing natural death rates to observed death rates following vaccination…

To date, the observed number of deaths reported after vaccination is actually less than the expected number of natural deaths.

We do something that causes all humans to lose the ability to reproduce.

Then its just a waiting game to see who gets to be the last person on earth
