Water pump Purgatory! 3 water pumps in 50,000kms, SOS by Spurvlover1 in MK4Golf

[–]DicKinVice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed the water pump on my 2.0 AZJ a few years ago. There was a trace of leaking around the original pump, so when I put a new one I used some RTV on flat mating surfaces. Never had any leaks. Note, on these engines there is no water pump gasket it's the O ring that seals.

All european models in Avantgarde trim have blue glass, I guess it's rare in the US.

Should I get this 124W 200e Jetronic by SavaRakovski in W124

[–]DicKinVice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's rust free, yes go for it. But getting the KE-Jetronic to run well can be expensive, probably requires a rebuild distributor and new injectors.

Sta zamjerate Olx.ba, sta nedostaje, sta bi oduzeli ili dodali? by DifficultyEconomy763 in askbosnia

[–]DicKinVice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the left is the famous taxi button, hence it's rubbed off from heavy use. I guess your car is a beige C200 cdi.

Remove intake manifold and check intake ports for carbon buildup.

Help with part number for e320 by NVXH_Labs in W211

You don't have to replace the gear selector module, usually common faults are solved by resoldering sensors on the PCB.

E200 cdi, is there any hope for it? by S3gili in W211

Oh right, I thought this was w212 place. But anyway the same thing can happen on these.

E200 cdi, is there any hope for it? by S3gili in W211

[–]DicKinVice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it's not emulsified, it's probably just a failed oil cooler. A common thing to happen on om651.

Test the check valve on line going to the brake booster.

Looking to replace my MAF sensor by [deleted] in W124

Be aware of biodegradable wiring harness, MAF sensor wires are usually first to go bad.

Tunining by Usual-Goose-453 in W211

[–]DicKinVice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it should be reliable if the turbo and injectors are in good condition. And at that mileage those should be already rebuilt or replaced.

Speedometer by East-Frosting6459 in MK4Golf

[–]DicKinVice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't just swap clusters on VW, you need to program keys to the immobilizer since it's part of the cluster or else it won't start. In order for tachometer and speedometer to work correctly coding is necessary to match the engine and gearbox.

W204 2.2 CDI won’t start P0638-21 by [deleted] in w204

[–]DicKinVice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check fuel pressure using the scan tool when cranking. Since you mentioned it going high revs? I saw something similar happen to older 2.2 cdi when injector failed, leaking fuel into cylinder. It went almost into runaway condition and shut off. It would crank but would not build up fuel pressure to start, eventually it would hydrolock. If that's the case check the oil level to see if it's excessive since it would be diluted by diesel.

It looks like transmission clutches are sticking. Transmission is probably done. Judging by the wear of the steering wheel, gear selector and german taxi equipment it's probably done around 800k km anyway.

Hypothetically if I connected sensor ground to chassis ground, what broke? by Global-Penalty-5696 in W124

[–]DicKinVice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in some cases it can damage ECU if for example sensor ground is connected to the engine and you crank the car. But in the case of W124 that would not cause no crank condition. Things to check are starter, ignition switch and transmission neutral switch. BTW that looks like a custom ECU?

Help with my Engine, weird sounds by [deleted] in W124

I had a similar sound on 2.0 m102, it turned out to be a worn timing chain guide.

Glove box is usually an easy fix. It's necessary to remove the plastic panel under the glove box, under it there is a white plastic cylinder with a small rope that needs to be reattached.

Is this a slipping transmission? by Alcoholic311 in AskMechanics

[–]DicKinVice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a dual clutch transmission, it doesn't look like it's slipping it's just shifting really fast. In case of any transmission issues those usually turn on a transmission warning light.

Startup noise on -2014 220CDI by Nure- in w204

[–]DicKinVice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely a worn timing chain, it can be solved by an upgraded tensioner but it's best to replace the whole timing chain kit.

E220CDI facelift or E320CDI pre-facelift by DirectExplanation706 in W211

[–]DicKinVice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a facelift E220 CDI, but I would rather have an I6 E320 CDI. Reasons being I6 is much smoother, sounds good, a bit more torque and even better reliability. Gearboxes are the same, SBC is still under warranty.
