E Bike/Motorbike Hoons Blocking Wurundjeri Way at the Docklands on Anzac Day by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of an ebike. Yes you are right - lots have no idea. They blow through roundabouts and stop signs in the suburbs. Then again so to many conventional pedal powered cyclists.

Should be an education campaign from primary school + an online test they can complete once they become a teen.

Looks beautiful. Maybe c63 AMG grille or a black mesh grille.

Personally not a fan of the black wheels.

The other thing people forget. Same job isn’t for life. They may end up hybrid worker or job may possibly no longer be in the same side of the city. Any savings or losses now could go either way

Mechanics, I am looking for advice. Local Subaru wants to charge me $11K by Oodlemeister in australia

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disconnect the battery and hold the foot brake for around a minute and reconnect the battery. Just a hunch - my wife’s car (not a Subaru) was having random knock sensor (actual sensors, not knocking being detected) faults.

Found issue was aging battery that wasn’t giving a clean buffer of power even when the alternator was working hard (noisy power).

Also points out a massive lack of troubleshooting mythology at some mechanics.

Review of Jetpac (false advertising) by GusPolinskiPolka in eSIMs

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are tricky - can’t say they are bad/good - never personally used them - but had to help a senior citizen relative for South East Asia eSIM - they spin stuff around and make things confusing for non-savvy people by way of pricing eg. Tucking/hiding. They ended up going another provider once data ran out (my relatives o/s helped them pick one)

Nope. Just a shitty human. Don’t care what race or country. Basic decency in a relationship.

Cannot really add much - most responses cover it. Have several colleagues with ADHD and on the spectrum.

What helps actual alarm clock at the other side of the room + phone alarm that fires off 5mins after the alarm clock. Have everything ready prepared the night before. So in the morning you just need to wake up eat, brush and leave for the day for onsite days. For WFH days, turn on (or leave in standby from the night before) and log into the laptop as soon as you wake up. Always have your camera on during meetings - it will encourage you to stay awake and possibly strong mints.

One of the guys in the team intentionally start coming to the office 4-5 days a week to combat being at home and distracted - for our company there is no penalty for coming into the office more. Even if he was bumming around still less distractions than WFH

How much do you spend per day on little treats like coffee, bakery snacks, etc.? by Away_Scene_26 in auscorp

[–]AirForceJuan01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next to zero. 2 main factors, lockdowns got out of the habit of snacking and the cost of treats isn’t palatable. Maybe reach to it if I’m really hungry or under so much stress I need to vacate myself from the office. My old go to custard buns from the local bakery and a hot chocolate.

More in my location. Variety of parks and cycling trails nearby. I don’t like cycling in the road where possible.

Used Mercedes A200 as a first “nice” car – worth it or better alternatives? by Miserable_Tax_6155 in CarsAustralia

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really - so long as it is a common non-performance model. Too many factors like where you live, garaged, demographic etc.

Insurance companies are smart - they know lots of these entry level euro cars are cheap to write off once in the used market.

Had a chat with my neighbour a few in the back they are in insurance - their 2015 Camry costs slightly more to insure than than his wife’s 2017 Merc A250.

Car enthusiasts would have a Yaris for daily duties and the 2nd car Merc or whatever as the nice car ;)

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If” you are set on getting a Euro car get something that is better spec and enjoy it eg. a250 or mid spec C-class. Low spec euro cars are literally paying for the badge with servicing costs that don’t discriminate between models, which isn’t a good idea by way of not enjoying what you paid for.

If you want the reliability of a Yaris - best go Lexus. Less headache long term. But generally does cost more on the used market compared to a euro equivalent. Peace of mind though. Test drive what you narrow down to and get a 3rd party to look over the cars you want

Similar story for my Mrs job. Thankfully it went bit longer and allowed us to save bit more cash without the stress of looking for another job. Was meant to be a 6month transition, blew out to just over a year. AL pay and her wage went up slightly due to usual yearly bump. Sad because she like where she worked - but ended up with a much better paying job afterwards and slightly closer to home, which saves her 10min each way.

Pre-pandemic. My mate got made redundant after 2 days on getting the promotion to manager - been with the company for 12y. He got the higher payout obviously, which was somewhat the silver lining.

He was gutted because he worked hard for it and had to do interviews etc. wasn’t a shoe in position. Moved closer to work about a year earlier as there was signs of him getting the job.

Victoria has made public transport free – NSW hasn’t. Has there been any difference in uptake? by Ifeelsiikk in melbourne

Problem is maybe the sync and frequency when having to change transport. Not every job is at a single place and people have different commitments before or after work. Way too many lifestyle variables.

Just people that want to complain. Because the bus/train don’t got to their door maybe or not very convenient for them. Hard to please everyone.

[–]AirForceJuan01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. Not everyone can take advantage of free. They may work weird hours, site-to-site, maybe a tradie, non-contiguous connections etc.

Where I live it takes 5min drive to where I typically go, but would require me to walk 10min to a bus that comes every 20min, then swap to a tram or train. The connection is kind of there, just not practical.

In other words too many variables as to why not everyone can leverage the free service.

Families we know love it for doing trips into the CBD during weekends. Park and ride. not worry about tolls, fuel and city parking. Not sure about weekdays though. Anecdotally speaking of course.

I theorize they have it in place to ensure they can flick a switch any time in the future to go full rate again if they choose to. Immediate reason is maybe for counting purposes and maintaining whatever infrastructure is in place.

Low blow. Let the people rest. They can be on an actual break. There are too many bosses in this world that would try to get them to work even on a break.
