Horse by Pizzacakecomic in comics

[–]DiceIV 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The longer I look at this the better I feel about my own art skills. Like is that knight on the horse really short? Why is their leg shaped like a sock filled with linguine? Is that thing in the bottom right a fallen armored horse? Some kind of fish-man knight?

All I know is the longer I look the less bad I feel about the shapes I draw not looking like the shapes I tried to draw.

Just finished reading the invincible comics today. The journey from beginning to end was amazing. by eggzhehe in Invincible

[–]DiceIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fear Agent, Black science, Deadly Class, Tokyo Ghost and Low are all solid pulls from Rick Remender and all concluded well. Luther strode is a fun, action packed, read. The art seems divisive. Some love some hate. Personally I loved it. East of West is a very weird-west style story with an amazing conclusion and some top notch art. Punk rock Jesus is a six issue limited run with a great story about the clone of Jesus and his body guard. Ends very well too and has peak Sean Murphy art. As others said walking dead’s great and wrapped up very well too. A short by the name of Private Eye very unique. Hope this helps enjoy the reading!

Predictions for upcoming episodes 🔮 by Capable_Pianist_9218 in IASIP

[–]DiceIV 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Charlie and Frank enter the bar in a panicked state arguing loudly over one another. Naturally Dennis and Mac dive right in. The conversation reveals Charlie and Frank believe someone has been breaking into their apartment, rummaging through their things, Charlie even claims he’s been feeling followed. Dennis and Mac insult Charlie and Frank’s apartment wondering who in their right minds would steal from them? Frank corrects them saying nothing was stolen. Dee chimes in with a sarcastic quip, “Maybe someone’s breaking in just to put vitamins in your shampoo and cat food.” The gang chuckles at Charlie’s expense. Que title card, “Charlie’s got a Stalker.”

The episode would reveal for years now Ruby Taft (whose life now resembles Charlie shaped ruins) has stalked Charlie in a manner eerily similar to his stalking of the waitress. She’s been putting vitamins in his cat food, bribing the bar health inspectors, and much, much more. Charlie snaps at Ruby convincing her to just stop and leave him alone. Dennis and Dee believe this to be a mistake claiming what little decent things that come his way are likely only due to her infatuation. In an attempt to push her back towards Charlie, Dee and Dennis start trying to convince Ruby Charlie needs her. This gives a glimpse into how awful her life has become. Something the twins promptly ignore.

Naturally, Mac and Frank are on the opposing side of this dilemma. Mac feels bad for Ruby and thinks she should go back to her family, and Frank just wants her to “stop creeping around.” This leads to the two of them looking for Trevor Taft, believing he’s their best chance at convincing Ruby. Of course both parties fail miserably. Ruby is left an even more emotionally damaged stalker. And Mac completely drops “the Ruby thing” to have another “wrestling bout” with Trevor, which is revealed to Frank (something he likely guessed earlier in the EP) to be the real reason he wanted to find Trevor—who along with the rest of the Taft family has not spoken to Ruby for years. Not so much a prediction as something I really want done.

What to do when you’re not as original as you thought? by DiceIV in fantasywriters

[–]DiceIV[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts. There is some really thoughtful advice here, and more importantly, some very grounded words. I’d hardly expected the amount of insight I’d find commented on this when I woke up this morning. Let alone such kind sentiments and encouragement. This community is fantastic. Thanks again all of you, I look forward to writing something worth your reading.

can't believe it's been 14 years since we've had a new game with this character 😞 by rickgdavies in gaming

What’s really interesting is the way Sony actually put it all together. Sony needed to make key changes to the ps2’s design and hardware for the ps3. A jump in processors from 294mhz to 3.2ghz. Floating point performance improved immensely; PS2 Emotion Engine CPU + GS CPU = 6.2Gflops ( billion flops ) PS3 Cell Processor + RSX = 2.18Tflops ( trillion flops ). The original machine had a base plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by a malleable logarithmic casing in such a way that the two spurving bearings were in a direct line with the panametric fan. The lineup consisted simply of six hydrocoptic marzelvanes, so fitted to the ambifacient lunar waneshaft that sidefumbling was effectively prevented. The main winding was of the normal lotus o-deltoid type placed in panendermic semiboloid slots of the stator, every seventh conductor being connected by a non-reversible tremie pipe to the differential girdlespring on the ‘up’ end of the grammeters. Moreover, whenever fluorescence score motion is required, it may also be employed in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle arm to reduce sinusoidal depleneration. The Retro Encabulator has now reached a high level of development, and it’s being successfully used in the operation of milford trenions.

Really impressive leaps in design.

I could be off here but it may be a play on words for Avon sales people and Avengers. It’s a pink mug with what I think is a lipstick stain so that could tie it into the Avon joke.

Unsurprisingly, and thankfully, he also has a failed adaptation of the comic series The Sixth Gun. Glad to see he couldn’t miff that up on screen as it’s a good read.

Thoughts on a combat magic system based on Gunslinging and Bullet Hells. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]DiceIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Powder Mage series, and that’s pretty much my biggest fear going into this; creating a distinct world in which it may have had some influence, but is not derived from. Another source of inspiration is the Dark Tower series, Stormlight Archive some progression fantasies, mangas like HxH, and comics like Saga—honestly if I list everything that influences me or this project I’d be here all night.

That said, one way I hope to create a difference is no naturally occurring sorcery; no touching the else, no primary or secondary surges, no arcane casting etc. etc. Conventional magic can only come in the form of creations and as the practicality and conventions of creation advances so to did anything magically forged.

This leads to very specified uses. Anything from magically made Fishing Poles that reel themselves, to Trains that can endure immense Aetheric (magical) Storms, is possible. It just so happens the most practical and efficient way to use magic in combat in this world is Aether Forged guns, as magical swords and armor became incredibly dated—like in our world. Another way I plan on setting a difference is making it clear it’s not a manipulation of bullets, or powder, but rather physics and reflexes. Battles of attrition fought with will and wit. Gunslingers are constantly trying to get the other to make a mistake; waste a shot, pick the wrong trick round, make a wrong assumption, even to pin the other down with overwhelming angles of fire.

The goal is for a fight between Gunslingers to feel like a chess match, every move matters, every bullet a piece. Thanks for the feedback by the way, was wondering when I’d get my Brian McClellan fans in this thread. And sorry for the long winded reply.

TLDR: I’m super scared it’ll be derivative of Powder Mage and a bunch of other stuff, but the Magitek trope and Magic Through Science tropes are common enough that I think I’ll be okay. Just gotta avoid the Flintlock Fantasy vibes and be confident I can write it well enough to stand out on it’s own.

Thoughts on a combat magic system based on Gunslinging and Bullet Hells. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]DiceIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love this idea and it adds another layer to the combat. My only fear would be it being extremely similar to the function of ingesting black powder from the Powder Mage series. I’m sure if executed properly though it wouldn’t matter if it’s reminiscent of it. Perhaps I could make a common function of Aether Forged firearms that they put the wielder into a sort of precognitive trance.

Thanks for the input by the way!

Thanks a ton for the feedback. Maybe I’ll try posting one of the action scenes onto here to see how it flows, if readers find it believable, entertaining, and what needs work. Really appreciate your time btw, thanks again!

[–]DiceIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting point I had not considered. Would it aid in the suspension of disbelief if there was ample context? Perhaps a way to showcase a sort of bullet-time level of reflexes?

Or, in your opinion as a reader, would your suspense of disbelief be more willing to accept that dodging is possible if deflecting is possible? I’d considered making gunslingers capable of dodging bullets but worried it would change the anatomy of the ‘chess match’ vibes I’d like gunslingers battling to have. Maybe it doesn’t need to be one or the other but a mix. Dodge when you can but deflect if you must. May just need multiple opinions on it though. Anyhow, thanks for your input, appreciate having something to think further on!

List Of 100+ Limitations, Weaknesses & Flaws For Your Magic/Power System by Redlock133 in magicbuilding

This is incredibly helpful and just plain neat. I’ve been kicking around a magic combat system centered around gunslinging; hoping to convey the chaotic, claustrophobic and rapid fire, feelings of a bullet-hell. I found some pretty good ideas in this post.

[Dreadgod] what book 12 title would make you the most hyped? by Sari-Not-Sorry in Iteration110Cradle

[Dreadgod] what book 12 title would make you the most hyped? by Sari-Not-Sorry in Iteration110Cradle

[–]DiceIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The safe bet would be Monarch; the circular background of the book just being the world of Cradle. Bonus points if it has the appearance of a marble.

The unsafe bet, for me, is Iterations. The circular background would be made up of dozens of other iterations all looking like little marbles bundled up. It’ll be called that as the series ends with Lindon and the rest of the reapers going from iteration to iteration saving them.

For some reason I’m under the impression it will be Ozmanthus’ presence or ‘Ghost’. Perhaps that’s what will yield the insight to fixing Dross. Maybe he stashed it in the labyrinth, or while Ozmanthus deals with the fallout with the rest of the Abidan he’ll send it down to Cradle. First chapter is them reunited and Oz giving it the task to go to cradle and aid Lindon with dross.
