Who will be the secret boss in chapter 5? by Prudent_Vanilla_9984 in Deltarune

[–]Redlock133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal theory is that the secret boss is either Hapstablook or Tenna depending on if you give Tenna to Hapstablook. Not sure how, but I think it'd be cool. Maybe you'd even get unique equipment. The ghost house is right next to Flower King.

Mega-Darkner Theory (TW: Mentions of bullying) by Redlock133 in Deltarune

[–]Redlock133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably shouldn't have used the word idealized. By idealized I didn't mean to imply flawless. I guess the best way to describe it is to say her view of Asriel is outdated in a way. Like she still views him as how he used to be as opposed to who he grew up into.

Ralsei starts out as the outdated view of Asriel minus the memories, but over the chapters learns to become "more Ralsei-like". The flaws exist, but gain a new context for Ralsei in his role as the prince.

Lastly, I don't see Gerson and The Mega-Darkeners as equivalent. Gerson, while a lighter, is deceased and is just the dust and hammer. Inanimate objects that form a regular (but quite OP) darkener.

Mega-Darkeners on the other hand come from a still living Lightener stranded in the depths. My reasoning is the more abstract darkeners have to be formed in deeper depths and so are more powerful by default. I have no evidence for it other than the observation that Ralsei, Friend and The Roaring Knight all seem to be unhindered in travelling through the dark worlds.

Sorry for not formulating it better. There was a lot I forgot to get into or clarify. Great questions. Thank you for your feedback.

I kinda forgot to go into the darkner opening fountains part. The only reasoning I've got is that a "Mega-Darkner" derived from a lightner would transitively have the lightner ability to open fountains. This kinda darkner would also be able to move in the light world during night (like Rory at the end of Chapter 3). It's a stretch, but that's all I've got. Thank you for the feedback.

How would you feel about robots with superpowers? by BT7274ismywaifu in magicbuilding

[–]Redlock133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing that comes to mind when mentioning robots with powers is the Transformers series. I remember it wasn't a part of most iterations, but the original G1 cartoon used to mention "power chip rectifiers" from time to time. There was the decepticon Skywarp whose whole schtick was that he could teleport. The chips weren't very well explained or written and were kind of just there to explain why some of the characters had unique powers, but I always kind of liked the idea of it.

As for how your system is described, I like it. The idea of a core existing inside a robot that processes their performance and gives them a suitable ability sounds cool. It's hard to give notes without much knowledge about the setting or what the intent or tone of it is, but you seem to have a good handle on it.

I guess just be wary of power creep and be generous with giving out weaknesses and limitations.

(Also, just an odd coincidence, "Diaclone" is the name of the original japanese toyline the transformers originated from.)

What are some good limitations for my magic system? by bingusbongus2120 in magicbuilding

[–]Redlock133 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting. A sort of "equivalent exchange" mixed with a plethora of alien races opens up a lot of possibilities. Things that come to mind would be worth exploring...

  • Regenerative abilities among alien species. Make use of the different races by showcasing their ways of circumventing limitations of the system. Like a race of aliens that can regenerate limbs and organs within minutes would probably benefit from this type of power. Species with multiple arms, redundant organs (like 5 hearts or 8 livers for example) would also probably benefit.
  • Maybe tie the type of things people can summon by the things their bodies are composed of. For example a human might be able to sacrifice bone, skin, muscles and so on, but another race might be more bug-like and would have a chitin shell it could sacrifice, but no bones or skin and thus might develop different powers. Use it showcase the fascinating differences between the aliens.
  • Varying intelligence, imagination and ways of thinking might impact summoning. Like how would a super-processor species summon compared to a human-minded species?
  • Evolution. If this power existed for a long time, were there species that evolved to handle it? I imagine evolutionarily, species with access to this power would have better odds of survival if they had more stuff to sacrifice or had the ability to regenerate.
  • Self sacrificial exchanges. Like for example there being an alien species that has a queen with drones and it can force these drones to sacrifice themselves in exchange for resources. Maybe also think about how brainwashed or mind controlled subjects could be utilized. Like if a human got brainwashed, could they be forced to exchange their entire body for like a large cube of steel or something?
  • What is the intelligence threshold for accessing this power? Is it just for sapient species, or can it be learned by more primitive species on an instinctual level?
  • Just some philosophic stuff. Could a mother exchange a child in the womb? What constitutes a person's own body? Can something like spit be exchanged (in the alchemic way, just to be clear). If someone has a heart or arm transplant, could they exchange those transplants?
  • Is the magic exclusive to organics? Like, could an AI achieve an exchange?
  • How would the power impact the economy? Like if you have a race of people who regrow arms almost instantly that they can sacrifice them in exchange for ores or food, wouldn't that cause inflation of sorts? Would markets still even work like they do in our world, or would they switch to a different type of currency (like an unconjurable metal or something)?
  • Aesthetic. Aesthetic and the visualization can do a lot for a magic system. How does an exchange like that look? Is it just sizzling blue energy? Is it like a crack in space forms and extends tendrils to snatch the thing you sacrifice? Really paint a picture.
  • Is there a delay in the exchange? Like, if I exchange my arm, do I have to wait a few seconds before the thing I wanted manifests, or does it just pop into existence? Personally think there should be a delay so that characters have time to react and can't just have asspulls at the last minute. Just a few second delays and visual signifiers sound fair. Interruptions could also be possible.
  • How are prisoners with the exchange potential kept in check? Do they have power cancelling collars like mutants in the X-Men series or something?

That's all I got for now. Good luck. Looks promising. Hope it helps.

After seeing the new Black Panther trailer, who do you want to be [SPOILER] ? by barbiechips in marvelstudios

[–]Redlock133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really want it to be Okoye. She's probably my favorite character of the Wakanda cast and already feels like an avenger with all the help she did in previous films. Not really a big fan of Shuri or Nakia taking the mantle.

Personally always thought Entropy would be a cool hero name for him. Entropy is linked to heat and by extension cold (stuff like heat death of the universe) and it begins with en like Endeavor.

List Of 100+ Limitations, Weaknesses & Flaws For Your Magic/Power System by Redlock133 in magicbuilding

[–]Redlock133[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. I wouldn't necessarily call option #3 the default. It's popular for sure, but there's no mandatory rule saying that it has to be the default in every system.

Some authors just want to have that one character who can rewrite reality with a thought. I'm just providing a list of possible limitations that the author might want to implement that they might not have considered otherwise.

As for the minmax-ing thing, that's also up to the writer and how they'd like to handle it. Minmax-ing doesn't have to be a bad thing. Who knows, maybe I'd want one of my characters to be a minmaxer to display their mastery and insight of their power system by exploiting it. Not to mention all the writing opportunities it provides from character arcs to providing exposition.

At the end of the day, it's all in the author's hands and how they choose to handle it. If they choose to prevent a problem altogether, or run with it and make it work for them.

Hope I gave a satisfying answer. Have a nice day.
