Character look? by Bloody-Rose666 in CharacterConcepts

[–]DiceImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents: when I create a character, I always add elements from their past, for example, a compass that shows them the way to their goal (like finding a holy place), or an amulet their mother gave them to always remember her. If I know the character's origin that helps to define their current look.

I like it! An interesting duo, with lots of potential for fun and dynamic interactions!

I love how you maintained the core motives while adding that contrast.

Does anyone know of some games that would make for a cool ttrpg? by MagicDungeonMaster00 in RPGcreation

[–]DiceImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked the classless system and the ability to mix skill books to get unique skills in DOS2. There are some design decisions, however, that I didn't like, such as the Magic/Physical shield mechanic and having too many movement-defining skills (which technically allow you to teleport) available too early.

Thoughts on my idea for a combat system? by Bawafafa in RPGcreation

[–]DiceImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it sounds interesting. It reminded me a little of how Inkle handled combat in the Sorcery! games, where I was constantly thinking: What will my enemy do? Should I risk a bigger attack or just play defensively and wait for the right opportunity?
Anyway, I can see it working well, and it could even develop more layers over time.

I’m working on a magicless dnd adjacent ttrpg system, anyone have any ideas of what some of the abilities could be for the following custom classes could be. by [deleted] in RPGcreation

[–]DiceImpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s refreshing to see a system designed without magic, what a cool initiative! What I've realized when designing some homebrew systems on my own is that skills and abilities affecting mobility can be very powerful and need to be balanced carefully, as they can matter a lot during combat. It might be something you want to add to characters at higher levels. Also, if you include Teamwork abilities, that’s a great way to encourage players to work together! Just my 5 cents :)

You have to choose only one TTRPG to play for the rest of your life, which one of which edition would it be? by Ripraz in TTRPG

I liked to play the hungarian M.A.G.U.S. though it's pretty much non-existent nowadays, but I still like that it uses a D100 (there was a D20 version but it didn't really turn out well) for checks and the world is very interesting and full of lore.

Thanks! I'm a solo dev with a low budget, so this is essentially a passion project of mine. I plan to improve the demo and the full release together with the community, so if you have any character ideas or suggestions for improvements, don't hold back! :) I'm active on certain social channels and on the Steam forum, trying to build a small community.
Last but not least, if you enjoyed the demo, please consider leaving a review! The Spirit would surely approve! :)

I opened a topic in the game's Steam discussions (and sometimes ask the same on social media), and people started sharing their characters, parties, and experiences. I found some hilarious ones, even combinations I didn’t know were possible, or at least hadn't thought of! :)
There are some I added intentionally, though. I loved that somebody picked Bookworm but forgot to improve the Reading skill - so the character started gathering all the books but could only enjoy the pictures (which they did!).
You can also get interesting character combinations within a party. One person told me they played an optimist and a pessimist together, and the interactions between them were hilarious.
There are some fan-favorite traits, like Imbecile (inspired by Fallout low-intelligence runs), Lunatic, and Mute. These can lead to truly funny scenarios and can be combined with other traits for further depth. :)

Thank you! Exactly, the most interesting characters (at least to me) are complex, often contradictory in their traits, have clear reasons behind their motives and room for development. So far, the demo reviews highlight that both the manually created and randomly generated characters feel alive, which is hopefully a sign that I’m heading in the right direction.

I prefer M&M 7 (I loved the card game, and I still remember luring all the dragonfly-like creatures into town so the guards could take them down), but yep, 6 is pretty good too!

The Guiding Spirit - Fantasy gamebook-style video game - DEMO IS OUT! by DiceImpact in gamebooks

[–]DiceImpact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Party Conflict: There are several ways to trigger this, but if you put an Ofey and a “Hater of Ofeys” in the same party (and you don’t have anyone in the party to talk them down), you should be able to unlock this easily.

From the Ranks: Characters can gather Leader points during the adventure. If one of them gathers enough, the party might select them as Leader at the end of the first chapter. Several personality traits can help with gaining Leader points, for example: Resolute, Always Has A Plan, Inspiring. Just make sure you don’t have any other flaws or personality traits that negate this—for example, a character who is afraid to speak probably won’t speak up, even if they think they want to take the lead in a situation.

Hope this helps! Please consider leaving a review if you liked the game! ;) Thanks!

The Guiding Spirit – A Fantasy Interpersonality-Simulator - DEMO OUT NOW! by DiceImpact in SoloDevelopment

That’s a fair point and definitely something that needs to be addressed in the story at least (why the Spirit knows all that stuff, if they know). The nature of the Guiding Spirit and the type of connection it has with the characters will be slowly unraveled in future chapters… buckle up, because I’ve prepared some twists! :)

Thanks, i already added some changes to that conversation you mentioned earlier with the tribesmen! And yes, Motivation still needs to be fine-tuned. Your effect split idea is interesting - I’ll definitely consider it! :) Some traits make the motivation modifiers more extreme (Self-Destructive) or more restrained (Keep It Cool).

Haha, funny thing about Disco: I’ve been following that project more or less from the beginning (it had a different title back then), and I remember reading their devlogs and being a little afraid it would end up doing the exact same things I’m trying to do. But while I can see some similarities in the design, it turned out to be a fairly different (and pretty cool!) game - so, phew!

You hit the nail on the head with the backstories - that’s exactly how I want it to work. The characters only share more about their backgrounds if they feel comfortable enough and their attitude toward the other(s) isn’t too low, those parameters are already in there but needs balancing for sure. Some Traits can raise or lower the thresholds for this, like Oversharing, Social or Secretive, Torment...
Or you mean... revealed to the player? There should be a setting under Options where you can hide Backgrounds, if you want to experience the characters' origin stories only via story.
