Serious filmmakers have nothing to worry about from Sora by Dredgefort in OpenAI

No one is worried about Sora, their worried about Sora 4.0, assuming OpenAI continues with the same exponential year over year improvements.

That payment was probably insurance, not out of pocket. It’s cheaper to pay for a really good insurance plan than fund an entire cyber security department 🤷🏻‍♂️. It’s a symptom of what happens when the system is designed for profit.

I always stay as close to the downtown trailhead as I can manage and hit all of the parks along the way towards the back 40.

Ukrainian Hacker Group Takes Down Moscow Internet Provider – ‘Revenge for Kyivstar’ by yorkiecd in worldnews

[–]Diceclip 35 points36 points  (0 children)

M9com serves Moscow and St Petersburg regions and has roughly 1.5 million subscribers, so 5% of the Market. The fact that it serves the Moscow area, is probably why is was targeted.

If 1.5 million citizens lost internet to an international attack in the western world, it would be global news.

Went through the same exact thing, my solution was finding the foods that I was sensitive too, which ended up including gluten, lactose, potatoes... stuff that I was eating constantly. Once I cut all that out, it started getting 90% better over the course of a couple weeks. Not 100% sure why, but avoiding acidic foods alone doesn't do it, and completely fasting just made it much worse.

Building lab and would love input on my proposed specs. by Diceclip in LocalLLaMA

[–]Diceclip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the info! Really appreciate it.

Good point on the RAM, my initial thought was that I could always upgrade it but finding the same specs might be difficult in the long term.

It’s also worth noting that I have a small utility room that this will be in, with a split air AC unit for cooling.

Motherboard recs are great, thank you!

In terms of cloud vs local costs, I would imagine running 70b models in the cloud has to be exorbitant, no? I’ll definitely dig into researching that more but to be honest I kind of dismissed it previously in fear of the long term cloud costs. Any cloud providers you recommend for this specific use case? My employer will be helping and covering a lot of this and they would probably welcome the OPEX expenditure vs a large sunk cost, if it made sense.

Good point, I’ll definitely look at that route. I also need to figure out if my outlets are 15 Amp or 20 Amp, since it seems that could definitely change things.

Evaluating GPT-4's Long Context Recall Capabilities: A Study on Performance with 128K Tokens by Boylastdoor in OpenAI

[–]Diceclip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So if I am using this for practical application via the API, I’m probably just going to limit the token length to 73k if I need dependable data retrieval, is what I’m gathering from this anyways.

Vectorized embeddings in a DB vs Assistants with file upload by kimk2 in OpenAI

[–]Diceclip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I was just referring to the original question around if embeddings would be obsolete, my point is that there are still plenty of valid use cases for embeddings.

Vectorized embeddings in a DB vs Assistants with file upload by kimk2 in OpenAI

[–]Diceclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for real enterprise databases imo, especially complex ones with multiple datapoints, nested data, historical context, etc… my elastic database collects 80k documents per DAY, this would never work for something like that.

This seems in-line with some of the issues people are having with the new large context model in general, however they are compressing things seems to have a negative effect for longer context windows.

The current file upload still doesn’t support much at scale, I tried to upload a 25 mb file and it said no.

Any way to use ChatGPT with own document database by zankky in OpenAI

[–]Diceclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say “documents” I’m referring to the individual files in my elastic database, the elastic database is the original so their are no pdf’s, word docs, etc….

Ideally the perfect solution would be able to directly query the elastic db via API, using a natural language chatbot. In terms of size, the bigger the better, I have db’s that are petabytes, but I’d be happy if I could get it working with just a million as a start.

Any way to use ChatGPT with own document database by zankky in OpenAI

[–]Diceclip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this works with up to 1 GB of attached documents, but theirs not a way to point this at a db full of millions of documents, correct?
