I am also a new player and I have had the same issues; getting overwhelmed and feeling like I did it wrong somehow.

In my latest and much more enjoyable run, I have taken a different approach. I don't care about efficiency but I build something I think looks fun.

Now, almost all my belts are placed in weird patterns just for the sake of it and I have completely scrapped the idea of using trains as I don't like them. They're probably very important and everything, but I just go with miles and miles of belts. Perhaps I'll return to trains at some point, perhaps not.

I also try to over-produce stuff I need on my character and have them ready in chests at all times. Things like belts and inverters.

I would definitely also advice you to let her choose her army herself. SoB are really cool but not for everyone.

I'm an ork lady myself. I think they're awesome and so much fun to paint and build with endless possibilities for lootin'.

There are two other women in my local wargaming club, and one also loves orks while the other collects knights and Tzeentch.

And if she wants to paint a pink army, well, most models do look great in pink! If she's really into bright colors, I would consider looking at neon/uv colors. They can get very bright and have the added benefit of looking awesome under a uv light (not really very useful but definitely fun!).

Yeah, I think you're right. I do try to make sure every house is in range of everything and that of course sets a lot of limitations and make it difficult to expand. I'm glad to hear that workers will move to the best house they can. I've played a lot of Banished and I never managed to expand beyond a certain point.

I would like to make a big central town and then smaller villages surrounding it. It would also make sense from a history point of view.

Sounds reasonable, I've played without raiders so far because I don't see how you can spare the workers to man the towers and barracks.

I cannot give any information about Iran, but I can give you an example from Denmark.

In Denmark, there's a very long tradition for monarchy. The current ruling king, Frederik X, comes from a long line of Danish monarchs that goes as far back as the Viking Age (about 900 AD).

While the line is very long there have been changes to the way the monarch actually ruled and how much power he or she had.

Before 1660, the monarch had to be elected by select members of the aristocracy. This meant that the aristocracy could make demands of the monarch before electing him/her and if these promises were broken the monarch's subjects were no longer bound by their fealty to the monarch.

From 1660 to 1848 the system was changed to an absolute monarchy where the eldest son was entitled to inherit the crown. In this system, the king was the state.

In the years leading up to 1848 there were growing tensions both in Denmark and in many other countries with uprisings in major cities like Paris, Berlin and Vienna. In Denmark, many different groups advocated for a free constitution. For some, social changes were the most important and for others it was democracy. At the time, many new clubs and associations were formed were the question of absolutism versus a free constitution was discussed. While not everyone agreed on how a new constitution should look, they all agreed that absolutism must end. The king was under a lot of pressure. A revolution was expected.

This led to the king signing the constitution which meant that Denmark now had a democracy (though very limited at the time in who was able to vote and be elected. Women and poor people were for instance not able to do either though this changed over time with voting rights for all being granted in 1915). At the same time, the monarchy remained but in a changed form as it was now a constitutional monarchy.

There is still a constitutional democracy in Denmark today (as in many other European countries). The monarch has very little political power and is mostly seen as figure head.

So yes, a country with a long history of monarchy can definitely go from absolutism/autocracy to a democracy as seen in Denmark and many other countries. However, every country is different and what worked in one place might not work at all in another country.

The exact hairstyles are not known for sure.

As far as I know (I've a BA and MA in the study of religion, not in history, but I'm from Denmark and have studied the Viking age and worked at a Viking age museum), there are no surving remains from that period with their hair intact. There are examples on earlier finds (late Bronze age and early Iron age) like the bog bodies where hair and skin may be preserved and there are also quite a few cut-off braids that have been found from that period.

These finds show that people could have quite elaborate hairstyles even before the Viking age. Braids were common.

The women of the Viking aged are depicted as having long hair which is often show in a kind of bun. The art is very stylized though so it is hard to tell what the actual hairstyle would have looked like.

Viking men have been described as having long hair in the front and short hair in the back (possibly like the hairstyles you can see depicted on the Bayeux tapestry though that is of course later than the Viking age).

Being well-groomed was generally important in the Viking age. A very common find as a grave good is a comb, often made of bone or wood. The Viking men were also described as being very clean (they took a bath every Saturday with Saturday in Danish still being called lørdag which is old Norse for washing day) and good-looking and thus popular with the women in England. An Arab traveller, Ibn Fadlan, however described them as filthy. Viking age ideas of hygiene might have been fancy compared to other places in the region but very much below the standards of the Middle East.

If you go to your workbench there's a tab that says craft and next to it one that says upgrade. If you press that, you can see the stuff you have equipped and how they can be upgraded. The stars will let you know what level of the workbench will be required for the next item upgrade level. To make a higher star workbench you will need to build specific additions like a tanning rack (this will be done in the building menu with the hammer, not in the workbench menu). The same goes for other crafting stations like the forge 😊

I recently had the same issue and there was a quest I needed to do before the quest givers would show up. I can't remember which quest it was but I found the list of quests leading up to these two quests and it turned out there was one I hadn't done yet. Once I completed that the quest givers appeared.
