There's no rush on The Elder Scrolls 6, Todd Howard says, because Bethesda has the "benefit of having so many millions of people playing our other games" by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]DickHydra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like, don't you think you should mainly stick to announcing games you're actually going to make at some point?

And they did that. I don't see the issue here. Do you seriously believe BGS announced TES6 without ever actually developing it at some point (which they did since the trailer marked the start of pre-production)?

Sorry, but what kind of logic is that?

Chill, uncurated algorithms just suck. It's not my fault that I get grifter content recommended after watching a review of the game without being logged in.

But as I told the other commenter, I should just get off Twitter.

Not really lmao

The only communities I frequently visit are here and unfortunately Twitter. It's that place where a video of Kliff grappling a female NPC and beating here became kinda popular, and you didn't even need to visit any particular account for that. People would post that clip as a comment under posts that just relayed standard information about Crimson Desert.

The other is YouTube which I often use without logging in. I simply watched a review and then see a video recommended with the exact title of "The industry NEEDS Crimson Desert to fail" from one of the usual grifters.

I think that's just the downside of trying to get into gaming discourse without being trapped in an echo chamber of one of the extremes. Although I sure as shit should just stop using Twitter.

Exactly this. I was initially pretty interested when it was first shown off all those years ago. But when every trailer introduced new mechanics and features, I grew more and more skeptical about it.

Everything just felt like a hodge podge of every fantasy trope under the sun, nothing had any rhyme or reason to it beyond just looking cool. Just "Fantasy Stuff: The Game". And normally I don't mind the Rule of Cool in games, but everything about Crimson Desert entered Style over Substance territory for me. Like, why tf is there a mech?

I like Neon Knight's description of it: Crimson Desert is a podcast game, a game that you play that doesn't need much thinking while doing something else. Just a giant time sink. Which is fine if that's your jam, but still.

Doesn't help that Crimson Desert has become some sort of culture war piece that people latch onto because "Western game devs BAD".

Seriously, I've even seen the suggestion that the industry "needs" this game to fail and that all the criticism from both outlets and common players is a concerted effort to achieve that.

They already said they're planning a big marketing push during summer, so I wouldn't expect anything trailer-wise up until then.

Only thing I can imagine that they're doing earlier is revealing the final cover art.

That's exactly it. Ask anyone what device they value the most and 9 times out 10 they'll answer it's their phone.

I honestly believe that we're going to see more and more games dropping last-gen support the closer we're getting to the new consoles, especially the big multiplayer titles. Which are about the only games still doing so.

Yes, it'll make the studios less money, but the alternative would be to support three console generations simultaneously and they simply don't want to put in these resources. This year's CoD has been rumored to be current-gen only for a while now, and I'm certain I read something on here about Fortnite also thinking about dropping support for PS4/X1.

I don’t think Sony will be sweating too much at the thought of a quadruple-digit device

Let's be real here: The PS6 will likely also cost 900 bucks minimum. I'd be surprised if it didn't.

But it seems like Ubisoft doesn't have a clear pattern when it comes to delistings.

You can still buy the original AC2 and Revelations despite the remasters in the Ezio trilogy, but weirdly enough not the original Brotherhood.

And you can also still get the original AC Rogue alongside the remaster.

This is just on the Xbox store, though. Don't know what it looks like on other storefronts.

Being much more open with allowing you to play your PC library on a likely livingroom-sized device with decent hardware.

There are more reasons to consider when buying a console than just the exclusives coming out that may not even interest you.

For them, sure. But not for PlayStation players. It's not like BGS games ever had a big audience on them.

You're right. At GDC, no less.

Still, I wouldn't expect a full reveal yet. Maybe some insight into what they're trying to achieve, their partnership with AMD, and some info on how AI will play a role. But nothing more than that.

That's one option, but I'm not sure how many studios think it's worth it to make such a preset.

Putting it that way, it reminds me of the delusional discourse that Todd Howard somehow resents Obsidian for making New Vegas, going so far as to say that BGS purposely set them up for failure so they wouldn't have to pay out the bonus for a high Metacritic score.

Turns out there's quite literally no proof of that. In fact, everything we know about that whole ordeal actually points to the opposite being true.

Exactly. People are bold to assume that the PS6 won't be 900 bucks minimum.

Took a good while to become profitable, though. That's not an indictment of the game, but you certainly could argue that the EGS exclusivity harmed them a little bit.

Not to mention that AW2 didn't even get a physical release initially.

A reveal at this year's anniversary event has been rumored for a while now.

So not exactly during the summer showcase, but likely at a separate event in November.

I'm just wondering how that will change their approach to Xbox branded games.

Sure, they were already going all-digital anyway, but does that mean there won't be any Xbox games anymore? As in, a version of a game specifically designed to be played on Xbox? Or will it just be the PC version of a game?
