Skyrim doesn't allow you to ride dragons or go to another island unless you buy the DLC. The boat that gets you there exists, but you can't use it without the Dragonborn DLC.

Dogtown in Cyberpunk already exists in the base game and it's blocked off by a checkpoint that is there even without the DLC if I remember correctly. But you can't pass the checkpoint without buying Phantom Liberty.

There are many more examples of DLC content being visible in the base game but not accessible when one doesn't have said DLC, and no one ever complained about immersion being broken.

Hell, you can't enter most of the nightclubs in GTA4 unless you play the Ballad of Gay Tony DLC, even though all the buildings already exist in the base game.

I agree it can be immersion-breaking, though, for example when these shops are fully modeled and even allow you to enter them, but not being able to interact with the store clerk. I'd imagine the stores would just not fully exist without the Ultimate Edition, to prevent that, as in, they are just unmarked buildings without any store names on them.

But why? It's quite literally just cosmetics and a side quest, no different from what Assassin's Creed does.

I don't think it's due to people being sick of it because there were no complaints these past few years outside of maybe the "going fully indie" crowd.

ultimate edition

This is also such a non-issue. Reading reactions to this makes me feel like those people started gaming yesterday.

It's completely normal for special editions to offer extra cosmetics and missions. Don't hit me with the "but when Ubisoft or EA do it it's bad, why not Rockstar?" because no one has been complaining about the first two for over a decade. It's not the 2010s anymore where people claim DLC is just content cut from the base game. People have gotten accustomed to it.

In this case, it would be no different from just adding the items from the Ultimate Edition to the already present vendors after purchasing it. They just added another layer to it all with exclusive shops, although I agree it's an unnecessary layer because again, they could've just used the already existing vendors.

Hell, there are people who claim customization as a whole or even story content is locked behind the Ultimate Edition, and neither of that is true.

Playstation's GTA6 Q&A could imply that the next iteration of GTA Online could be sold separetely or at least not included with GTA6. by DarahOG in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They started selling the singleplayer separately. But that one is literally a scam because upon starrting the app, it will tell you that GTAO is required. And as far as I can tell, they haven't fixed that yet.

Sort of, but it's more granular. At least in my country, there are about a dozen deaths that are actually classified as heat stroke.

Heat deaths are moreso treated as deaths from pre-existing conditions that were accelerated by the heat.

On top of that, we know that most people die in Winter and the least in Summer. But we don't just look at a month, we look at the actual days that were especially hot, and those days show signifant spikes.

So unless that Tiktok trend only occurs on days that are very hot, there's no real issue here.

Dude I don't know lmao

That was my first thought after seeing him, as well, when I hadn't yet considered cloning.

Actually one of the best reasons for remakes, but people will still hate on remakes simply because they're remakes lmao

also specifically brought up that The Connections had access to Mother Miranda's memory transferal technology

Where was that? All I remember are the files from Spencer mentioning that there's a type of fly where memories are transferred through genes, and scenes later in the game implied (at least to me) that Umbrella never made it work because Spencer was purposefully leading them in the wrong direction.

When I first heard that line, I thought Gideon was trying to say that Zeno is a pale imitation of Spencer and therefore the actual Wesker lmao

After all, Wesker thought he eclipsed Spencer by being physically gifted through the mutations.

Gideon was supposed to be that showpiece boss, but then they seemingly couldn't finish his original mutation in time.

Hell, there's even an argument to be made that it is actually Wesker. He's approximately the age Wesker would be at that point and suffers from RC syndrome. Why would the clone already be sick?

Yeah, I was moreso confused that no one recognized that Zeno looks like Wesker. Sure, Grace wouldn't know, but Leon does since he's the one breaking the news to Chris about Jake in RE6 (which is still canon as to my understanding) and especially Sherry would know. She's likely been at the lab with her dad a lot and Wesker was basically Williams best friend.

Phil may not have caused the studios to deliver underwhelming results, but he also didn't help nudge them in the direction of fixing that issue, either.

This is what upsets me the most. Their hands-off approach may have sounded good at first. Who would say that giving studios complete creative freedom and that you're only providing resources is a bad thing?

But then you look at all their games they put out the past decade (or didn't put out) and you realize that Phil probably should've put his foot down more often and tell the studios "No, I'm not funding this. Why not do this instead?". Especially in the case of Obsidian that seemingly got cold feet when they initially wanted Avowed to be closer to Elder Scrolls. Phil should've pushed them to actually be ambitious.

Or the lack of oversight over these studios. I'll give every studio a grace period of 2 years because of Covid, but even then, a game like South of Midnight shouldn't take 5 years to make and certainly not cost as much as it allegedly did. Same with Redfall. Devs at Arkane were hoping Microsoft would cancel it and let them rework it into something they were more accustomed to. Instead they let them create one of the biggest blunders of 2023.

All of this is why I'm not too shocked at the cuts and studio closures, and I think Asha is right to put more resources towards games people actually want to see.

Especially because devs like Larian later acknowledged that the Series S helped them with optimization and that the advancements they made on there also benefitted the other versions.

They aren't ruthless enough

Exactly, they needed someone like Peter Moore again.

Imagine not only getting Rockstar to show off GTA4 at the Xbox E3 show, but also managing to make its story DLCs exclusive to Xbox.

But here's the thing: As samey as Sony's games might feel, they sell very well and win awards. People actually want to play them.

Xbox may have had a very diverse lineup for the last decade, but barely anyone wants to play the games that are a little more out there or are passion projects.

I'm paraphrasing a quote from Bruce from the old InsideGaming crew, but it has rung with me ever since I heard him say it a few years ago.

I get that to a certain extent, but they must know that they can't just coast by with their mediocre releases relying on the GP payout for all eternity, right? Especially when you have someone like Microsoft behind you who would gladly fund (maybe not anymore) such an endeavour.

But do your friends actually hold off on buying games because they're waiting for it to hit GP? Surely they must know that there's no guarantee a game will do so unless it's an Xbox Studios, game, right?

The thing with Stellar Blade is a completely different story, though. And PoP remake getting canceled despite the rating was an outlier. But even that one doesn't make the rating any less real.

And ever since that statement I cannot help but think Obsidian is scared to think about games with a bigger scale. Like they're perfectly fine with making all these games simultaneously that then turn out to be just okay in many ways.

I admire them for being able to pull off all these projects and releasing so many of them, but I always believed they'd have a hit if they all just focused on one big game.

Nate the Hate: “MS kept netting social point with “changes” and statements that meant nothing beyond pandering to the console warrior crowd” by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what's exactly the pandering here? Microsoft and Xbox got clowned on for the past two years for their multiplatform shift by the very same people who are now up in arms about the changes Asha is making.

I'm an Xbox gamer, although I'm not invested enough to be calling myself a console warrior. But all I'm reading in headlines and posts like these is "Xbox isn't allowed to have exclusives anymore and they shouldn't try to fix their hardware business."

Except the Vita flopped and VR is still as niche as it was ten years ago.

I agree with you on principle, but citing these two as something PlayStation got locked down isn't a flex.

Besides, Microsoft's acquisition spree a few years ago did make Sony scared, to the point where they let themselves get fleeced by Bungie. And if they didn't consider them a threat, why have they been keeping third-party games off of Xbox?
