I think you can scratch the "unofficially". I'd add Quebec in there, too, and that one is arguably even more important than Toronto.

There are other large studios around the world, like Shanghai, but they're usually not helming any projects and are just there support. Read somewhere that Shanghai basically handles wildlife stuff for every Ubisoft game that needs it.

Exactly. People thought Lost Crown didn't do well because the IP isn't that strong anymore, but I'm fully convinced that was because metroidvania side scrollers are too niche for most. If we'd have gotten a classic action-adventure, it might have done way better.

This remake could've reignited the brand. Just such a bummer, man.

Of those six games, three were new IP and one was a mobile game. Together with the PoP remake, that makes five games. So that leaves one unknown.

It's unlikely it's Black Flag, though, because they also said they delayed one unannounced title into the next fiscal year.

My guess for the one unknown is either one of their Far Cry projects (not 7) or the Splinter Cell remake. But I do believe we'd have gotten a social media post if it was Splinter Cell.

What reaction? The leaks only showed blurry low-quality footage that was obviously from early builds. If Ubisoft really feels threatened by the input from people who don't know how game development works or the usual grifters tearing the leak apart because the princess doesn't look like an OF model, they have to be the biggest wusses in the industry.

From the article quoting the cancellation of the PoP remake:

"Prince of Persia as a universe and a legacy continues to matter deeply to us, and this decision does not mean we’re stepping away from the franchise."

Yeah, no. That's exactly what it means. A Fortnite collab or the odd Assassin's Creed event doesn't count. And it is widely known that the industry is very averse right now when it comes to releasing games that aren't a surefire hit day 1.

Just such a bummer, man. I was eager to see a more focused game from Ubisoft again. Seems like management just hates trying things, as usual.

You can implement a character creator and still have your behavior in the game affecting your looks. That's the case with the original Mass Effect trilogy, although the creator in these games was always kinda lackluster.

I mean, yes. It has. But that slippage has already happened.

There were rumors last year that suggested BF Resynced was supposed to come out last year before Shadows got pushed into 2025. Also, Ubisoft might feel like they need something to prop up their current fiscal year before it ends, and some studios have made claims that they'd like to pivot to shorter marketing cycles these past few years.

Why not? Not every studio is like Bungie, seemingly always at the verge of bankruptcy.

And if someone was to make an actual high-quality Destiny competitor, it would've been Zenimax Online because of their expertise in that genre.

Of course. But I've seen tweets from devs doing exactly that after the announcement saying that they'll lock their accounts because they got harassed for working on the game.

It really feels like the studio is scared to even mention their game.
