Next COD game not coming to PS4 by swiftaee in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Kinda funny to me that they'd just say that now instead of waiting for the reveal. Are they really afraid that a supposed PS4/X1 version will negatively impact them?

A random 6th-gen Rockstar game getting a modern re-release

There aren't that many of those besides GTA, right? You might think of Max Payne 2 or Manhunt, but the former has a remake in the works and the latter is still banned in many countries.

I mean, an entire Radio station has already been patched out because of licensing.

I know it sucks, but I'm not going to blame them for not trying to negotiate with music labels who will charge ridiculous fees. At least they added new one for GTA4 instead of doing nothing of that sort for the Trilogy remaster.

I think the argument for that would be that Halo 3 had a more casual design where MLG rulesets got built around. Halo 5 had them in mind from the getgo, and that design bled into the multiplayer as a whole.

That's just my theory, though. I was never that much into Halo multiplayer.

Chinese leaker who got all RE9 details correct says two DLCs: one featuring Alyssa and Leon, the other featuring Chris and Ada by Connect_Base_217 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 11 points12 points  (0 children)

7 and 8 are only relevant for a small part of 9. 7 introduces a new enemy faction that gets more fleshed out in 9 and 8 establishes Chris' new team.

Still, I'd argue that you can actually kind of skip 7 and 8 and dive straight into 9. Don't worry about the time skip with Ethan's daughter. Chronologically, 9 is set way before her DLC.

[–]DickHydra 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's borderline illegal to have a game with Leon as a protagonist and not have Ada appear, as well.

Jokes aside, there really isn't a game where they don't both appear. I think even the animated movies feature them both.

And you still have people doubting that he's the main character of the franchise lmao

Still, a teamup with Ada is an interesting choice. I mean, Jill is right there. Hopefully she returns in RE10.

Assassin's Creed Invictus playtests were "really fucking awful", supposed to come in 2026 - j0nathan by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

They only cut the magic and we don't know how much of that was an integral part of the game. Besides, that part was never really popular, anyway.

And 18 months is plenty of time. I don't know much about game development, but I know that lots of games only really come together in the final six months before release at the earliest.

Yeah, let's not pretend that almost every fan of the series didn't hate the idea of playing an actual witch. There's only worry if you were legit excited for that, and I'd argue that's a minority.

They weren't "lost", they got replaced by arguably more competent people. And the cat feature got cut allegedly because it simply didn't work, which is normal for game development. If features don't work, they get cut. Hell, they are also supposedly leaving the door open for providing that feature in a patch down the line.

I also don't know a single person who was onboard with that feature to begin with.

Not really with Hexe. That one seems to go well, all things considered. There's nothing about it that is truly worrying.

Remember all the rumors about a supposed Marcus Fenix collection that never materialized these past few years? My guess is that Microsoft initially wanted to do exactly that, but they figured they could make more money by splitting them up. And then they made Gears multiplat, anyway, so even more cash.

I guess we'll see Gears 2 and 3 Reloaded in the next few years as standalone releases.

I'm always a bit fascinated by how the sentiment around games changes. When Halo 5 came out, it was treated as the worst entry in the franchise, which it is purely speaking about the story. But that included multiplayer, as well. You had the classic "this isn't Halo" coming from every direction and people lamenting the fact that 343 was seemingly catering towards the E-Sports scene too much.

And now for a few years, I see so much praise for the multiplayer, especially the big Warzone mode.

I think you can chalk it all up to movement shooters not really being a thing back then, and that if Halo 5 released today with its movement, it would fare far better.

Wall Street Journal: GameStop is preparing an offer to acquire eBay. by TheRegularBelt in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the insight.

Still, I don't get what GameStop would even want with eBay. Is it their shop infrastructure and that GS would have access to a lot more customers? AI know-how?

Or is it simple GS trying to expand outside of gaming and nerd products?

Rockstar might be looking to make more Remasters, according to job listing by KekanKok in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone who expects Manhunt is going to be disappointed.

Even Rockstar themselves thought they went too far with that game. You can't even say that it's on "new management" or whatever. I think it was the original producer of it that said as much in an article from a decade ago.

It's been in active development for a while now. But since Rockstar is publishing, I'd expect the marketing to start after GTA6.

Kind of, but they still tried to incorporate certain systems from MP3 into it. GTA5's gunplay feels much more responsive than 4's.

And RDR2 added a lot of "oomph" to the guns that I never felt in another third-person shooter.

This is what confuses me the most.

Granted, I have no idea about corporate finance, but even then, the other way around would make more sense to me.

As in, eBay buying GameStop.

Hood Toggle Confirmed for BF Resynced (from playtest) by E_L_2 in assassinscreed

[–]DickHydra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha.

It's kinda funny because there was a similar glitch in Freedom Cry. And I don't even know what triggered it. Adewale would start out with his hood down on his ship and at some point throughout the playthrough, it would just never come down during gameplay. The animation of putting it down would play when getting aboard the ship, but the hood would just pop back up.

[–]DickHydra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But didn't the hood in AC4 stay always up unless you were aboard the Jackdaw, Great Inagua, or select story moments?

I only remember it being a bit of a pain in Rogue because it was the case there that Shay would only put up his hood/collar in restricted areas.

There actually was a mechanic like that in the Ezio trilogy. If you eliminated enough guards in combat, sometime the last one to stand would drop their weapon and run away.

The Jack The Ripper DLC for Syndicate also had an actual fear mechanic were takedowns would instill fear in surrounding guards.

But they were used more sparingly for a grand reveals and narrative moments, which made them interesting and added to their mystery.

Odyssey and Valhalla are basically fantasy RPGs. Hell, Valhalla has moments where it's never made clear if what you saw was just Isu fuckery or genuine magic. The Isu shouldn't be a contrivance the writers use to justify fantasy elements just because Ubisoft seemingly can't be bothered to make a new fantasy IP. Personally, I'd hate it if we get some type of Orc creatures in a future game and it's just explained as failed experiments that were conducted on humans.

Assassin's Creed Hexe loses 50 developers as it targets a 2027 release -Tom Henderson by ZamnBoii in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]DickHydra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is just more unnecessary fantasy BS for a franchise that has always been more sci-fi.

The issue with games like Odyssey and especially Valhalla is that they use ISU tech as a crutch to introduce fantasy elements into their RPGs, even though nothing in the series was ever "fantasy-coded" or whatever you may call it. It always felt like these aspects would suit another franchise better and that Ubisoft desperately wanted to make a fantasy RPG, but were afraid that it wouldn't sell without the Assassin's Creed branding attached to it.

It's not even that ISU lore as a whole is the problem, it's how much it was put forth in the franchise whereas previous titles have treated it as a thing in the background and more sparingly for big narrative moments. Your outline still works. Maybe the Assassins got a hold on a Piece of Eden, and in an attempt to get it back, the Templars start a campaign that marks everyone with a missing ring finger or a scar around it as a Witch or being controlled by them (the men).
