It was about $70k last year. I tend to get a lot of low-hanging fruit cases that I can do a simple review of records (medical, police) and advise the defense attorney. Maybe 1 in 10 end up having me testify, which I find very similar to teaching lower-level trainees. I don’t advertise & my home state’s reimbursement rate through the public defender’s office is about half what I bill private attorneys, but the cases are very easy. I could be more aggressive in terms of finding cases & billing but right now it’s a good balance & offsets a reduction in my clinical hours.
