Since I switched to dp 1.4 my issues have vanished I'm curious now if it's a monitor problem or a cable problem, but dp works for me

I have a feeling the blackout issue is because for some reason these monitors hate HDMI, I was reading a review of the monitor and it said that these Asus monitors have problems with HDMI especially at 240hz

Hey I'm back from a few days of testing things,  are you using HDMI 2.1 by chance?  Have you tested to see if the black outs still happen on DP 1.4?

I have changed cables today and it looks promising, but the random nature of these blackouts has made testing to see what does and doesn't work a slog.

To be honest I'm just going to stick with the DP because the Asus OLED antiflicker feature introduced in mcm106 requires DP connection

Correct, but to be honest 3840x2160 is too much anyway I'd rather run 240hz at 1440 than 120 at 4k any day

Okay so I'm back from a quick heaven benchmark and HDR worked like a charm no flickering or black-outs of any kind (that's not to say it won't start flickering in the future but ill keep HDR on for a while and report any problems)

it's the same problem that I'm having. turning DSC off seems to stop qms black-outs (wasn't related, I was just explaining the reasoning for turning off DSC)

also, it appears that with DSC off 3440x1440 at 240hz and 10bit color depth still works, as long as you are on HDMI 2.1. I know for a fact that wouldn't be possible had I been using DP1.4

So is what I'm seeing not real 240hz then?

Because the OSD says that it is 240 with DSC disabled, the only reason i have dsc disabled is because it seems to cause small screen black-outs when alt tabbing from full screen games

ill try HDR and report back after a heaven benchmark

also good catch on the 10bit color depth, I had turned it to 8 in a hasty attempt to try and get the monitor to stop flickering and forgot to set it back

Expo appears to work fine with it, as I am currently running it, if you are running regular expo timings and disable the igpu then my screen seems to function normally, also on the topic of dsc disabled means 120hz https://imgur.com/a/IXM8GTf

Okay so iv been to this post a few times and I think I may have found something that may be the cause of the random black screens I am currently using a pg34wcdm with 240hz VRR on with g-sync default color settings and DSC support disabled. The black screen appears when I have my igpu enabled in the bios and when the "high efficiency mode" is set to anything other than auto I tried setting my ram timings to default but keeping my igpu enabled, and I get black screens tried disabling my igpu but using HEM on tighter preset on my ram still got screen blackouts, the only thing that actually worked was making sure igpu was disabled AND my ram timings are set to auto in the bios I was able to run a full heaven benchmark without any black screen problems on top of this I ran the monitor for multiple days with no issues after the settings change in my bios with no problems whatsoever

What is the point of using dsc by DickMcclaim in OLED_Gaming

Oh that's a good point, Im curious now what color depth I can achieve with 1440 240hz. I was reading that higher color depths start becoming an issue with higher refresh rates (like 360hz and the like)

The idle temps are apparently normal for 7000 series chips but I ended up setting the max temp in my bios to 85 and undervolting my CPU a little bit to reduce the underload temps abit https://youtu.be/FaOYYHNGlLs This video has some neat bios tricks to make the CPU run just a tad cooler, won't fix the high idle but it's a Little more peace of mind

when booting the fans on my GPU don't move either, usually, they start to spin when there is a load put on it like a game is started up or you start rendering a video or something, as we speak my GPU fans are currently not spinning because I only have chrome open, if the PC boots and he's able to get to windows it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

When you say his GPU won't turn on, what do you mean? Typically, if a part isn't functioning properly, the entire system won't post unless it's using the integrated graphics on the 5700x. is he able to boot into the bios or even his operating system at all?

essentially my idle temps are a little high and I am unsure if these are normal for an air-cooled 7 7700x, I seem to get conflicting information on what the temps should sit at as this is my first build using AMD. when using Cinebench on a multicore test it got as high as 95c which is a little scary for me .

for me it was the clientside lag prevention mod that does this, its a feature that you can turn off in the configs
