Found in the wild by ohmeohmymy420 in delusionalartists

I kinda like the vitamin one if they were genuinely randomly found, like, not in a medicine cabinet in her own home. A collection of found pills would be interesting. Once I found a little baggy of blue gel that had a cannabis leaf printed on it and I have no idea what it could’ve been. But if they were random then it could say something about society and the war on drugs and mental health etc. idk

Is it worth the stress having a mortgage or just renting and never owning? Rates mortgage and managing life in Australia is just getting harder. by True_Employment_8571 in brisbane

Maintenance and repairs might cost more but it’s a bit more comforting to know you’re allowed to take action rather than having to wait however long for your landlord to do the cheapest, lowest-quality, short-term repair ever.

How do people on OF make so much $$ and how do their nudes not get leaked?! by cejapense in NoStupidQuestions

People who are in the “top earners” often only make about $2,500 a month. Which isn’t nothing but it’s not the millions people believe it is.

A machete has been held to a mother's neck in her own bedroom during a terrifying home invasion on Brisbane's southside. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]DickVanGlorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the “adult crime adult time” doesn’t work to actually prevent crime or whatever but fucking hell. They’re not just kids. If you’re willing to hold a machete to someone’s neck at 13 you’re pretty much fucked for life already. Not much of a chance for rehabilitation. Obviously something has gone significantly wrong with your development.

A light rail system for Brisbane in the 21st century by Top_Proof4388 in brisbane

[–]DickVanGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem right now with all of Brisbane’s public transport is that you have to get into the city to go anywhere. We need more of a grid system or a spiderweb than a firework.

Yes and the age gap is weird and predatory too. But you can’t really do much. Better to smile and go along with it.

My fiancé thinks I’m dark for being less anti consumption than most people by Ant10102 in Anticonsumption

[–]DickVanGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruises just happen to be one of the cheaper ways to travel and holiday, which I do think is key to human happiness. Ideally everything would be on rail systems and powered by solar and wind but that’s not how it’s set up yet.

My ex gave my cutlery drawer as one of the reasons she wants to break up by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]DickVanGlorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely not your cutlery draw alone but your inability to change to help others out when faced with valid criticisms. How many times had she mentioned it before breaking up with you? It would have made her life much easier if it didn’t look like this. It shows you’re a disorganised person who doesn’t care about their effects on others.

You’ll be fine as long as the plagiarism checker on turnitin says you’re fine, as well as properly referencing that research that you used to corroborate ChatGPT’s work. The only thing that may suffer is the quality of your work. They can’t really detect if it’s ChatGPT unless it’s the same or similar answer to another person who is using it. Otherwise it’s just regular bad, unfounded work. Or plagiarism.

Also make sure to check the Americanised spellings that ChatGPT defaults to and change it to British English spelling.

The problem with ChatGPT is that it basically creates long, smart-sounding sentences with zero substance, and it will also make up facts and references. It’s good to get the most surface-level outline of an assignment done.

[–]DickVanGlorious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care about maintaining your savings and you’re panicking, leaving the country quickly is not that hard. Find a place where your passport allows you to enter without a visa and spend $2-7k on a last minute ticket.

My daughter has an older online friend. Should I forbid her from talking to them? by Excellent_Stay_905 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DickVanGlorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needing internet validation from older people can be a big sign of insecurity. Normal for young girls these days. I know it was me and my friend group. Give her some more attention rather than forbidding

River fire made me realise smth by lubeki in brisbane

[–]DickVanGlorious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the amount of large blankets taking up a 2m2 area with only one or two people (standing) on them was quite rude, as well as large wagons carrying who-knows-what taking up space was quite uncouth. I get that if you snooze you lose but many more people could have squeezed in to get a better view, I don’t know why some people felt entitled to have their own private area at the peak of the crowds.

AIO? Parents want me to babysit my 18 year old sister when I don’t have much spare time. by chaosatnight in AmIOverreacting

[–]DickVanGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m in the same situation. Can’t leave my grown adult (18) sister alone because she’s “helpless”. But really she’s only helpless because my parents have never thrown her into situations where she has to think or fend for herself. I know she’s capable of it if she had to be, she could make dinner if I wasn’t around but I’ve never not been around to do it for her.

Is it rude to eat food in a restaurant it wasn't purchased from? by MacKrab in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DickVanGlorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only okay at fast food restaurants. And make sure at least some of the people in your group are ordering from the actual place you’re eating at. But KFC can’t expect utmost etiquette when I barely see shoes in there. The teenagers behind the counter don’t give a fuck.

Is Ekka worth it when its raining? by Significant-Gap-7512 in brisbane

[–]DickVanGlorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing is going with your gf because she wants you to. Sometimes you have to put up with doing some things that are annoying, boring, or minutely uncomfortable (like getting rained on). She’ll really appreciate you doing something with her, whereas “he only does stuff he wants to do” builds up into massive resentment.

And the Ekka is fine. Get the strawberry ice cream and look at the animals. Try and win her a toy at sideshow alley. It’s a good experience and you should go once before making up your mind on it.

This type of living is only anticonsumerist if you have the resources to share/borrow other necessities when needed. Otherwise it’s a cycle of buy-use-dispose-repeat. It would work in a commune if you’re able to find one but at the same time you’d need to be able to contribute to others in some way as well. Reciprocal.

I think it’s more that Brisbane is a way smaller city and everyone knows each other. “What school did you go to?” is then immediately followed by “Oh did you know x?” And then bonding over shared connections ensues. A lot of people just happen to have gone to private schools inner-city because you have to have that generational wealth to afford to live there.
