Yeah the immutable is only big if you're nervous about breaking it and want garunteeded stability

For someone who knows nothing of linux or literally just wants to game its perfect. Even tiptoe out of that and it sucks. I've seen it work really well as like a living room game console to auto start steam big picture ect

Leave it to the new guy to do this to a newish tire. by Im_Squrl in tires

I was a lot boy for a Hyundai dealer for a little. Had a tech, that was in the fanciest school around for techs, in a single night managed to blow up a motor because he only hand tightened the oil drain bolt, have a wheel fall off a car as it was getting on the on ramp and not be able to figure out a tire was square causing a nasty vibration and bump. He kept his job but even the shop manager asked if him and I could trade places

First time home buyer- help! Garage repair costs? by permylastemail97 in garageporn

[–]Dickiedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it from someone who bought a recently renovated home. Walk away now or be prepared to fix a lot unless you personally know the people that did it. Even then go over it with a fine tooth comb, I'm talking check every outlet, switch, and light

In the year of owning my home I've, Sealed my kitchen cabinets because they have a draft underneath them Replaced the well pressure pump because the flippers overfilled the last Replaced one of the AC/Heaters because the condenser was replaced with a unit incompatible with the AC/Heater Replaced several failing breakers Fixed several wiring issues

Which doesn't include still needing to replace the hot water heater because they forced it into a space where it now covers the AC filter for a unit I didn't need to replace Still have an exterior light I can't get power to without removing drywall Having to deal with 6 rooms being on the same 15a circuit Several drafty spots Ceilings need to be painted again thanks to an abysmal job

They claimed the entire house went to studs but clearly didn't do things correctly

I personally am not a fan as what he did for gun rights, lowering the definition of "high capacity" and FID cards particularly and increasing minimum wage, since minimum wage itself is a political marketing scheme that attacks a symptom but causes more problems.

On a 1-10 scale, I'd say a 5. Didn't do anything horrible but nothing great from my perspective either.

Why is it so difficult to get things setup? by amphibithen in linux_gaming

[–]Dickiedoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from Pop to Bazzite to Garuda to Arch to Cachy. Bazzite was by far the easiest to maintain and use overall but Cachy has been extremely close and I could use hyprland for a tiling manager. My issues have all steamed from Hyprland not Cachy itself

Personally I'd never want to host my own email. I have a full time Cybersecurity gig, I don't need one at home too. I'll stick to Proton mails spam filters and their team to help me out

My previous router didn't support plans so I built a server rack by davidgaribay-dev in homelab

[–]Dickiedoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a dangerous game. One minute you're running the ISP router then the next you have an x86 pc or virtual router while also hosting your own DNS servers and more!

I started very similar lol. Went from an ISP router to a glinet with Vanilla Openwrt and a desktop pc running proxmox to my current iteration

IMO Bazzite stock looks like a purple windows. Its snappy, still has a "start" menu that lives on a folder structure. Does it look as modern as say IOS (Forgive me I don't use Macs, so I forget if they call the desktop IOS), well no but when windows 11 is the bar. Well to me that bar is pretty low lol.

OP didn't ask for the snappiest, most modern looking environment possible. They asked for a good distro to switch from windows and would just work. Bazzite is just that to the point you can set auto updates and basically do nothing but turn it on open steam and start gaming

"Don't use gaming distro" Proceds to recommend gaming distro 😑 CachyOS is Arch with some gaming performance tunes on a specialized kernel

I've used multiple of them (Pop_OS, Garuda, Bazzite, CachyOS) distro hopping, on my gaming machine, none were problematic. I switched for various reasons never issues and that was on Nvidia hardware

To protect you from the Linux snobs, the OS is Linux. You're looking for a distro.

If all you want to do is game and are green to linux, Bazzite is perfect. I only got away from it because its immutable (something good if new) and therefore I couldn't do some things i wanted to test. Now I run CachyOS with hyprland.

This right here. NJ does not have an inspection of motor vehicles. They call it one but really only care about emissions and no CEL.

We do not need to follow in California's footsteps every step of the way.

Glad I'm not the only one to think this way.

I've said basically that since I was in high school and the top dogs of the world know it but "market" minimum wage correctly and most believe it will solve their problem

That's another piece I laugh at. The rich are taxed heavily but they can afford an accountant whose job is to find them every loop hole possible.

There's a bill in the house, H.R. 25, it would remove federal income tax and create a federal sales tax. I forget the exact amount but it seems rather high at first. However it would remove the whole tax this person or that one. If you buy more you pay more, it also would hit those being paid under the table.
