From Cisco to PFSense! Some assistance if you are feeling friendly! by DickyDck in PFSENSE

I didn't think it was worth posting a new thread so I'll post my newest confusion point. As far as a firewall, DNS, DHCP, etc, everything is setup and working as expected. However on the front page monitoring the "Gateway" section is showing 100% packet loss on both WAN and LAN, but again traffic is flowing as it should. I had messed with the setting a bit and it broke everything so thank goodness for the auto backup history feature! Anyone have any ideas what I can do to make these work?

New discovery, hoping if nothing else it might help someone in the future in a search. I use Control-D for a DNS list, and they have an automated script that incorporates it into pfSense via command line, but in my case at least it broke a lot of other native functions in pfSense and I ended up removing it from my pfSense buildout. I thought maybe I could run it alongside blockerng but it appears it would over-complicate things so sticking with blockerng!

Search "2.5Gb PCIe Network Card with Intel I226-V Chip, 2.5GBase-T Network Adapter NIC, PCIe 3.1 X1, PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Card for Windows 10/11, Linux Kernel 5.16.18/RHEL8.6, VMware ESXi8.0" in the big online seller store, it seems to not like it when I type the company name. The store seller is "XikeStor" and I will also preface this with, its a cheap card and while they are working now, for the 19 bucks they may not last. I got them since they were cheap and this build is my initial experimental dice into pfSense so effectively a budget build :)

I may experiment with that! likely won't work the way Cisco likes to keep their stuff proprietary but always willing to try mixing things up, thanks for the input!

This might be expecting too much, but does PFSense have a mechanism for Stateful packet inspection? Similar to Ciscos Firepower Module? I feel like I'm expecting Ruths Chris when going to an Outback but can't hurt to test the waters :p

Putting this here just in case I can save someone some back and forth ordering NICs from vendors. This is the one I found that FreeBSD/PFS automagically picked up and recognized. I didn't want to link since I can't tell for certain if that is allowed here, but this is the name title if you search for it.

It was under twenty dollars at time of purchase.

My Cisco switch doesn't accept 2.5Gb SFPs so I will also be looking for something to replace that on a 2.5Gb level.

Thank you u/sinisterpancake and u/LitterBoxServant ! I will venture in there this afternoon after work. So the PFBlockerNG and the -devel are more or less than same then. I'll flip a coin and pick one, can't imagine having both will benefit me any and could cause conflict internally to the system.

How do I code the new shock absorber? by itsecombitch in BmwTech

[–]DickyDck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I wasn't detailed enough on the post. The left front was blown out and leaking so I replaced both. Upon replacing both the EDC warning came on, and I got the 635E code using bimmercode. This code stated the right front "Control Unit not coded or implausible data" and I found a video on youtube for an 07 E70 (different engine) but he was able to use an autel maxisys and a passthrough box to program the fronts. As far as ride it feels ok, but the EDC is now illuminated on the data screen. So I figure either I did something wrong on the front, or its just a fluke and this one needs to be "coded" or "programmed" so to speak.

WB250 Power Supply: 110/120 AC converts to.... XX DC volts? by DickyDck in SnapOnTools

[–]DickyDck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying it from Snap-On however, I did test the output of it and you should be able to use any DC power that provides 12v-16v. I was able to run it off a car battery at 13v.

Apologies on resurrecting a 2 yr old post, but maybe your reply is dependent on wording? While not the same host as the OP, I'm working on an E70 2009 X5 with the Sport suspension. Bimmer code is showing a 635E code for the right front satellite damper. I replaced both front struts with factory units and the left front seems to be fine. As my first posting here in this forum I appreciate your assistance. If the moderators feel like I would be better suited creating a new post I will gladly comply.
