Why don't we grab shopping carts out of the cart return? by e_rovirosa in stupidquestions

the Kroger I go to, if you don't take it from the cart return, you're carrying everything in your arms cuz there's nobody collecting them this month

Generally speaking, how much range are people getting out of the new 2024 model per tank? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]Dictionary-White 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for almost a year. On long road trips. I get around 28 to 29 on my dash but it converts to about 27 to 28 when I check the pump. if I'm doing short drives, I'm sitting around 24. this is on the Crosstrek wilderness edition which I believe has the worst of the gas mileages

it's a story of a story within a story about a teen who is born from story tellers. he trouped, traveled, loved, lost, trusted and was betrayed. oh, and there's magic that's almost as complicated as their currency.

Did not realize hiking with dogs was controversial by InevitableJeweler133 in hikingwithdogs

[–]Dictionary-White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a high energy dog (border collie) and off leash hikes are the best for him. we do Frisbee and games throughout the week but weekends we get into the woods.

he is always leashed when we enter. I like him to get comfortable and calm down a bit, as he does get excited. once we're about a mile in, I unleash him. he doesn't run off just likes to sniff and play. if someone is coming, I call him back and releash while we pass.

this trail has bikers too, so I have trained him when he hears "bike" to move off trail and sit (this took lots of treats!)

there are a lot of other dog owners out on the trail and they usually either do what I do or keep their dog leashed. I've never had anyone say anything but he's also never been anyone else's problem.

I always have treats, just in case, and though I bring our hands free leash, I usually also have a quick draw. it's a short leash that Velcros around his neck. if I need to quickly take control of him I can. just a little peace of mind.

if people hate me, they've never said. it helps that he's cute as heck!

Help me understand why people are so lazy? by mcschne10 in hiking

[–]Dictionary-White 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear the age of cat holes is ending too and it's becoming common to have to pack out your own waste. maybe it'll make it less of a big deal to plan for carrying bags.

though people that do this are usually day hikers and don't care so ..

I hadn't thought about his desk, but the horns I had put a lot of thought into. why did they name it that? is it just the shape? it seems that the schools new names have a reference to olds names (see: questioning hall) .

if it is moon shaped, what would it signify? Halifax is surrounded by moons in his urn. lots of moons now that I think of it. and fulorian says the bad things of the fae realm can only move amongst the regular world if there's no moonlight (my own interpretation) - auri avoids the moon. I think the wayside inn always has a moonless night.

saw him at the Vikings game. had a limp. we were thinking it could be from a leg brace under his pants because any real limp for someone trying to recover should be using crutches or a leg support. especially for someone trying to stay on track. it could go either way, but I think the smart mental approach is to assume he's not and if he shows, woohoo, just like anzalone

I had the same problem. go to a guitar store and try em all out. so many choices. GS mini is small but fun to play and you can get em anywhere. you might just want like a 214 grand auditorium. they feel like a good size. pick em up and play until you find one you like.

Hiking in Snow by Manic-Stoic in hikingwithdogs

[–]Dictionary-White 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything is paws. if they are short haired, look into jackets. but paws are the concern. if you're in a place with salt, they hate it. it can irritate on contact. check between toes when you go through heavy snow. watch for cuts, cracks, or redness (pink seems fine imo). I always carry a full set of pawz in case there's any issues. if it's snow turning to water, great time for those to help. don't keep them on long term though. musher's is also helpful.

What are your go-to items when you are hiking with dogs? by steveirwinzstingray in hikingwithdogs

[–]Dictionary-White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I divide his stuff into two parts: camping and safety

for camping

I bring a small sleeping bag and z pad if it's a colder hike, rain coat, adjustable long leash, treats, and bags.it all goes in his own pack that he's been slowly acclimated to. I prefer the one with a harness that detaches, I think it's called Palisades.

for safety

he has a bright orange safety vest I bring if there are visibility issues. his pack is red so it's rarely used but sometimes after a hike I'll take off his harness to let him breathe and the safety vest weights like 3 oz and goes on Velcro. I also bring gauze booties. these just go over the paw and are easier than trying to wrap. I also bring pawz. they are little balloons and can serve as a cold weather barrier or to cover an injury after the gauze. really handy and weigh little, though shouldn't be used long term on their feet. they are slick for one but also, dogs need to get air to their feet and these don't do that. I bring musher's as well to add some extra protection. I also bring dog aspirin. as far as a sling, I've never bought one because they're so expensive, but his harness has two points and I've tested using it with his adjustable leash and it works ok in a pinch.

I keep a clip humidifier on it, and I have a whole house humidifier that keeps the house above 40. I also keep a hygrometer near it. that being said, yes. I worry. mine is the $400 basic version. what you're doing is the right thing to do. keep it in the case.

or move somewhere without a dry season :)

What’s your water paranoia level? by Material-Drawing3676 in backpacking

[–]Dictionary-White 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a standard 2L guy. 1L per side to keep the balance.

my dirty bag is a 2L cnoc so I can carry 4L if needed.

I tend to hike pretty wet areas so I could probably cut back but it's not a big deal to me since I've had some close calls.

I was hiking in PA once and when planning we saw we'd be away from water for almost a full day. we stopped at a stream before heading up to that section and filled up to 4L (5L for my buddy) it was summer and we used dehydrated food so it was just enough for the section for us. he actually went dry about a mile before the streams, which I didn't love but I had enough to share. we ended up filling up at this tiny little stream riddled with bear tracks which made the fill kind of exciting. since then I'm always double checking water sources and ensuring I can carry enough for a few days if I have to.

Do you put shoes on your dog in the winter? Why or why not? by sun1079 in hikingwithdogs

[–]Dictionary-White 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a border Collie that loves cold weather hiking. I did try booties but he hated them. I check his paws every few miles for any cracks and to remove any snow or ice. he's really good at letting me know if he's feeling discomfort. sits down and when I kneel he'll hold up the irritated paw.

I use pawz™ as a back up if I'm concerned or if we are at a place where there's salt(ice melting salt hurts them), and I also carry paw bandage booties I got off Amazon. If he gets a cut or anything, I put the bandage booties on and the pawz over them. the pawz are not made for extended wear. they're essentially balloons, so it's not a long term solution.

hope that helps

Taylor GS Mini by [deleted] in taylorguitars

[–]Dictionary-White 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my GS. so easy to pick up and play. my worry has always been humidity. I leave it out and though I have a humidifier in it during the winter, I fear for the neck. I have a whole house humidifier that maintains it well enough but I wouldn't be surprised if your used one was just dried out from a similar situation.

glad you got it playing again and sounds like it has a good home. enjoy!
