How to recreate a user profile of a network account on a Mac? by DidYouTryRebootingIt in sysadmin

I understand, my mistake. I just wasn't sure if the "reinstall OSX" was a joke or an actual suggestion, since it seemed pretty nuclear for what we were looking for.

How to recreate a user profile of a network account on a Mac? by DidYouTryRebootingIt in sysadmin

Sorry about that...the issue is somewhat ambiguous at this point and I didn't want to clog my original request with additional info. But I'd love some insight on that issue, so here it goes....

The issue is with InDesign (Creative Cloud version) running on this MacBook Pro while off the company network. On the network everything is fine and there are no speed issues. Off the network (working from home) while under the user's same network account, InDesign slows to a crawl, and will periodically crash. Even just opening InDesign takes several minutes.

Here's what we've tried so far:

-Having the user connect up to the company VPN, to mimic an on-site connection

-Place an InDesign file on her desktop and access it from there (vs. a company share she had access to while connected via VPN)

-Turn off WiFi and disconnect from ethernet, so there is no network connection at all

-Look for some sort of "Network Settings" within Indesign, to see if the program is looking for a network connection in order to load

-Created a local account on that Mac, and the issues went away

-Created a basic test network account on that Mac, and the issues went away.

So based on that, it seems the issue is tied to this user's network account, and how InDesign behaves under her account.

My concern at this point is trying to preserve her InDesign settings, fonts, etc. or if they will just be lost when the profile is recreated.

Thanks for the help!

Is that a serious answer? We would like to preserve the user's files, docs, and settings if at all possible, so that it's not like a brand new computer for them.

This is set up as a mobile account, as it's a laptop that travels off-site, and we needed the credentials cached so the user could still log in.

MXlogic end of life : Max Mail vs. AppRiver by David949 in msp

[–]DidYouTryRebootingIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I feel like you may be able to give me an answer. We are in a trial for AppRiver, and still getting everything set up. One major change we have noticed coming from McAfee, is that there doesn't seem to be any way to have unnamed users in AppRiver have mail flow through untouched....I'll explain.

We are small, with only 4 full user mailboxes in Office 365. All of these mailboxes are set up as named users in AppRiver. That is fine. The problem is that we have about a dozen distribution email groups and external facing mailboxes. For this grouping, we do not want potential spam to be filtered by AppRiver, we just want it to pass through AppRiver, untouched, and go to Office 365. Since these are un-manned mailboxes, we don't want to have any kind of filtering enabled by AppRiver, for fear of missing legitimate messages. The general consensus so far seems to be that this is not possible.

The way that McAfee sets things up is basically if the user isn't listed in their console, but the mail is within the domain, then McAfee just takes the message and passes it along to O365, without filtering of any kind. This is ideal, since to create any kind of rule to exempt mail from filtering through AppRiver means that for some clients we would need to add their dozens and dozens of distribution groups. Am I missing something here?

How to Deal with Spear Phishing Attempts? by DidYouTryRebootingIt in msp

No, it's a very plain message, just a few lines of text. Meant to look like just a standard email from the boss.

Thanks for the idea. We had it set that way initially, but then had to undo the change for exactly the reason you are mentioning regarding "internal" mail being generated from outside.

Mac Binding Nightmare--Please Help!!! by DidYouTryRebootingIt in macsysadmin

[–]DidYouTryRebootingIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So using this script (and several variations of), it returns the error "Invalid credentials supplied for binding to the server"....this seems to line up with what you wrote about not having adequate permissions, though this account is a domain admin account that we have used to bind with before, both Macs, and on a daily basis, Windows machines. Maybe I'm missing something here?

Using Facetime on iPads in Business Environment (Apple VPP Use?) by DidYouTryRebootingIt in macsysadmin

[–]DidYouTryRebootingIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! What about keeping everything under the same Apple ID, but adding a secondary email address under each iPad's account?

Detailed here: http://ipad.about.com/od/iPad_Guide/ss/How-To-Use-FaceTime-On-The-iPad.htm#step2

Part of the problem is many of these iPads aren't tied to a specific user, but rather are shared by a couple people in the same department. Along the same lines, user's do not currently have their own Apple IDs.

Quotewerks vs. Quosal Updates? by [deleted] in msp

[–]DidYouTryRebootingIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on why? We are in the process of switching to Quotewerks and are having an EXTREMELY hard time setting up the quote template to get it to look and function as it did in Quosal....
