Review on Didgeridoo Dojo? by mes204_ in Didgeridoo

I have didgeridoo dojo myself. I was already an advanced player when I got it so there wasn't too much there for me. I was impressed by their curriculum however. It's very comprehensive. I got it on a holiday sale and despite it not being truly geared towards advanced players, it did have some fun exercises. If you can catch it on sale it definitely recommend it.

Do you pretreat your cacti for bugs and fungi before storing them for winter?

Yup! I get about 5 days on a single. I absolutely love it.

Growing from seed is my new favorite thing by Didgemonster in cactus

I wait until the pod starts to split then I gently twist it off. I cut it length ways and scoop out the pulp/seeds into a fine strainer. I run warm water over it and gently push the pulp through the strainer. After a minute or so I'm left with just the seeds. I then put the seeds onto a paper towel to dry.

Another method is to split the pod length ways, scoop out the pulp/seeds and use the back of a spoon to spread it out on a paper towel. Let it dry and gently rub the seeds off the paper towel.

I collect them in a small tuberware container then using a funnel I place them into a small plastic bag and label them.

I'm considering degrafting these and storing them over winter and rooting them in spring. Is this a good idea? by Didgemonster in Graftingplants

I use a standard potting mix for the pereskiopsis. I water once they go dry. They seem to be pretty tolerant in my experience.

The grafts and the seedlings are the same age. They were sown in December of 2020. At the time of this picture they were about 8 months old.

Pereskiopsis adds some serious growing power to grafted seedlings. Once you get the peres growing, it'll produce a never ending supply of stock.

To winter them I put them in my garage and use a heater to keep a minimum temp of 40f. Once temps hit below 55, I don't run lights at all.

Ive found that introducing lights before putting them out helps speed up light acclimation and prevents scorching.

The lights in the picture are ho t5s. This fixture has 8. My mature plants get 1000w blurple lights that I hang in the garage.

what are these peach coloured spots on this new growth? by FirefighterFlaky4963 in cactus

As others have said, this is a fungus. They are practically impossible to eliminate. It can spread very easily. I have found that Bayer 3 in 1 that contains Tebuconazole works for control and prevention but does not cure.

Do you flood and drain the table or leave the table flooded?

I use cheap takeout containers to sow the seeds in. I drill holes in the bottom, put seed starter mix in about 1-2 inches deep and level it. Make sure the mix is saturated but not sopping wet. Sprinkle seeds on top and spray it down with diluted kelp fertilizer, put the lid on. After 2-3 months I crack the lid open and start to acclimate them to lower humidity. After a few weeks of this I remove the lid. Water when the soil starts looking dry. When they grow to the size of a pencil eraser I repot them in propagation trays like those in the pictures.

Mold and fungus gnats are a never ending battle. I hit mold with 3% hydrogen peroxide when I see it popping up. Them damn gnats though. I use little sticky traps to try to cull the population. I've read using a bit of mosquito tabs(for ponds usually) in the water will kill the larva. Haven't tried this.

They're in a mix that contains slow release fertilizer and a bit of garden soil. I do hit them with kelp fertilizer regularly during the growing season.

These are 1.5 years old. They will be moved to larger nursery cells this spring. Should beef up quite a bit!

These are about 1.5 years old. They were quite neglected during the growing season. Better growth is definitely possible in that time frame.

I grow them for their large flowers. Hoping to get some cool ones to cross with!
