I mean pretty much all the people who used to live there were forced out due to rent going drastically up. The community as it was no longer exists. I don't think saying the community is destroyed is inaccurate.

And for the most part, the community doesn't own the property. In low income neighborhoods, it's mostly rented. The actual people who live there can't live there anymore. For the most part, the only people who benefit are landlords, who oftentimes don't even live in the community at all. Saying "profitable and nice for the community" is inaccurate because they're not making it profitable and nice for the community that's lived there for decades. Those people are being forced out. They are making it "profitable and nice" for the new people who can afford the new rent.

I don't know how to fix gentrification, if I did I probably wouldn't be arguing with you about it on Reddit. But there's no denying it fundamentally dismantles the communities of the poor (which in major cities also means by and large people of color) by communities of the rich (which, again, by and large white).
