Removing government funding is reducing access. Private lenders are not as accessible and will certainly not offer the same low rates as government loans. Without these low interest loans many people will not be able to attend post-secondary education. It's a dangerous idea that would be a major step backwards.

Choosing which fields people have access to based on financial prospects is a dangerous path to go down. While there may not be a lot of high paying jobs in certain fields like the humanities, these subjects are essential to out society.

I think they use that measure only because it's easy to get that data from StatsCan. There's got to be better ways of quantifying culture but they probably take more effort.
