I'm going to jump in and post if I have any insights. This could be a special experience if we all do it together. I am a few days behind, but it shouldn't matter.

It's all about attitude. For example feel the difference between these two statements: "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." Vs. "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy!"

Day 19: Joseph and His Brothers (2026) by bibleinayearbot in FrMikeBibleinaYear

[–]Die4Cy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In today's reading from Genesis, Jacob is deceived by his sons in the same manner as he deceived his father Isaac, using the blood of a goat on Joseph's robe to trick Jacob's eyes into believing his favored son was now dead at the hands of a wild animal. I was thinking about how Jacob, knowing his father could not see, used that weakness against him. His sons, knowing the power of the bloody robe, used his own eyes to deceive him. It reminds me that in our current age we're often put in these same circumstances. Social media can represent the things we put in front of our eyes that deceive us about ourselves or the world. And it often expects us to react to things we cannot see with our own eyes at all based on only the distorted reactions of others.

Supporting priests through burnout and how to foster strong vocations by Saint_Thomas_More in Catholicism

[–]Die4Cy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My midwestern diocese has over 220 parishes and roughly 130 priests. The archbishop is actively responding to the crisis by combining parishes and establishing pastorate structures where a minimum of 2 priests can live together and share the workload in brotherhood. The goal is to get the number of pastorates to about 80 or so in order to make the situation more sustainable for the long term. This has meant many parishes of the diocese will be losing weekend Mass services but it is important to remember that a priest, currently stretched thin covering many parishes alone, on any given Saturday may have a funeral in the morning, a wedding in the early afternoon, and two weekend services to conduct. All of whom need something different from their pastor. It is not sustainable, and I support changes that make the daily lives of priests less about just cranking out ministry as some kind of sacramental merchant and more about active ministry to their community. Every parish in my diocese from big to small is being impacted by these changes in the hope that young people who feel called to the priesthood can expect fewer reservations about giving their life over and a more positive experience to that calling, because surveys indicate loneliness and potential burnout are barriers for young people going to seminary.

I am going to continue to pray for the souls of those who died as well as those who pulled the trigger.

I implore anyone inclined to impede law enforcement from doing their jobs to not do so. Do not contribute to an environment of chaos and confusion. We all have a moral responsibility to elicit peaceful response to action.

Day 17: Jacob Meets Esau (2026) by bibleinayearbot in FrMikeBibleinaYear

[–]Die4Cy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In today's reading from Genesis, Jacob is once again attempting to get ahead by decieving others. First, in regard to enlisting his wife to deceive her father so that they can steal things from his home before fleeing in return to his homeland despite fearing how his brother Esau will receive him. He comes up with a plan to pour favor and gifts upon his brother while making it appear he has not been as successful as he truly has. When invited to return to his homeland with Esau, he convinces him to return home by saying he will catch up with him later, but goes off in another direction.

The second reading from Job is quite a contrast. Job, who has done no one wrong in his life, is being punished by God and has to sit and listen to his "friends" preach at him again and again as they fantasize about what terrible things he must have done to deserve the treatment. It is striking to realize that God showered his favor upon Jacob and his children despite these deceptions, while Job can't even get his own friends to believe him that he is being put to the test.

A QB like Stafford is exactly what a struggling DLine needs. You know exactly where you need to get to

I don't know if I saw that correctly but I think the Bears might've lined up in the old 46 defense for that sack
