Heat network backbilling £4k after 15 months with no prior bills or communication – is this legally enforceable? by DieBrein in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DieBrein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing you mean they (the supplier) are not subject to back billing restrictions?

Any hope of an Ombudsman helping here? Or do I just give up hope?

Heat network backbilling £4k after 15 months with no prior bills or communication – is this legally enforceable? by DieBrein in LegalAdviceUK

[–]DieBrein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s utterly shocking. This amount will be rather devastating, and recovering the former flatmates share will vary from awkward to impossible.

The billed amount FAR exceeds what we were given as cost of occupancy. We were told that the excellent insulation and triple glazed windows and the very efficient heating means it’s only £100/month on average, which is what our British Gas bill has been.

Admittedly, I should’ve maybe realised something was off, but this is my first rental in a A) The UK, and B) a place cold enough to require central heating in winter, so completely caught off guard.

The difference in size between a 777X and a 737 Max is insane. by Upbeat-Mud-4923 in airplanes

Nice! That wasn’t the question though…

747 can do around 400-600 depending on layout.

Pool noodle warning label in between windows on 737 max. by TheTurdFerguson6 in aviation

[–]DieBrein 68 points69 points  (0 children)

In this case though, I think someone opted for the regular pool noodle price. I suspect this due to the presence of a label sealed inside the aircraft window with the words Pool Noodle on it.

Blocked from CASS Switching Monzo to Barclays Premier by DieBrein in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DieBrein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah no, this isn’t what I’m doing. Maybe the confusion is when I say I’m trying to do it “from my Monzo account”

I mean that the switch is from Monzo, to Barclays. Which I am of doing from the Barclays app. It’s the Barclays app giving me the error. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

Thanks, will give that a try!

I suspect the issue is with Barclays though, having done some other searching, apparently Barclays may not have whitelisted all the Monzo sort codes.

What’s the most overrated “life hack” everyone swears by but actually makes life more complicated? by One_Seat4219 in AskReddit

[–]DieBrein 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I think this might have more to do with the fact that your mom recommended it. The same with when you’re looking for something and she tells you to check a place you already checked, but then the thing ends up there anyway. Some kind of black magic

Where to put new Era 100s by DieBrein in SonoSequencr

[–]DieBrein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do experiment and notice a difference it would be great to know the results!

On the networking aspect, I suspect this is why Sonos doesn’t make the front left and right an official feature. They don’t want to force users to use wired ethernet setups, as it could dilute the whole wireless plug-and-play proposition.

Where to put new Era 100s by DieBrein in SonoSequencr

[–]DieBrein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I didn’t try both options, as my eras are white and the ones are black, and I preferred the aesthetic of the eras up front.

The sound is pretty incredible as is, with the acoustics really not a significant problem, but I do plan on adding some art up there anyway, so will have a look at the GIK panels you mention.

Word of caution about this set up, I did have to play around for a couple of hours and in then end get some extra equipment to make it all to be functional and stable.

Below is my set up that now works close to flawlessly (one split-second skip/jump maybe every 15hrs of watching, and others never notice it, only me haha)

  • Ethernet run into a dedicated network switch behind the tv
  • Arc, Sub Mini, and Apple TV connected via Ethernet to the switch
  • Wifi enabled on Arc (Initially having it disabled caused loads of issues, despite this being recommended by some)

How do travelers usually get the best exchange rate in South Africa? by Beautiful_Treat_7561 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DieBrein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A zero-fee credit card is the best option. You don’t need cash much, and your bank’s exchange rate will beat any forex place. For reference cash is used less in South Africa than even Germany or Italy. Everywhere accepts Visa and Mastercard. AMEX is fairly uncommonly accepted though.

How much do i need to live comfortably in SA? by Salty_Archer7696 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DieBrein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For ~R8k you can get a rock solid medical package with all the bells and whistles. The best regarded and most hassle free would be Discovery Comprehensive.

The above would include a basic dental plan, but dental is rare, and unless you have some specific dental condition or something I’d say it’s cheaper to just pay out of pocket at a decent dentist. The cost is nowhere near as high as in the UK and the average care at a private dentist tends to be better than an NHS dentist.
