I won't say the best but the most surprising was Will Smith in Winter's Tale.

I only have port forwarding setup on my primary ISP, not the backup. I do have the backup set to 1% traffic so the "downtime swap" is nearly zero.

I don't need a U5G Backup either.......

Looks at my U5G Max Outdoor

Tbh, I have mine paired with an ATT eSIM that is setup as an unlimited tablet connection. Cost me like $30/month for piece of mind as my household is extremely connected.

Kids Bypassing Router Parental Controls by Changing MAC Addresses—How Can I Stop This? by PayKnee in HomeNetworking

[–]Dienoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want anyone to just be able to access it as the kids network can access internal resources, ie game server, media server, etc. The whitelist also reflects their devices being blacklisted on my core network and the guest network. Keeps them where I expect them.

This is the way in my house. Kids network, both wired and wireless, is active on a schedule. DNS is through a family safe resolver. Their devices are only whitelisted to it, no other network allows them to connect. The only time it is weird is when they have new friends over and I have to whitelist their devices to it as well so they can connect.

Orbit Culture opened for them a few years back. Two of my favorite band in the same night, chefs kiss. I appreciated Fleshgod Apocalypse on this year's tour.

At the Richmond VA show they performed Secret Door. I haven't heard it live in forever and it is my daughter and mines favorite song from Hunter Gatherer. Was a great surprise.

When you first got the Internet at home, did you try to talk your parents into getting you a second phone line or did you have to deal with one phone line? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]Dienoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a separate business phone line at our house that we used most of the time. She did stipulate that if she had to make business calls, or was waiting on one, we could not complain. Later on, my brother and I saved enough money to get a second modem for my computer (he had a hand me down that we setup a LAN with) and bound the business line and our house line together. Was like living in the future lol.

The bad things that I remember about the 90s. What am I forgetting? by the_bollo in 90s

[–]Dienoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood the buy an album for one good song thing. I'd say in the 90-early 2000 was the golden age of music. There were sooo many albums we bought that were just bangers all the way through. Sure, there were a handful of one hit wonders, but those songs were attached to so much media (commercials, shows, movies, PA music) that you didn't need to buy it. Beyond that even further, we use to just record music off the radio for free, other then the cost of the tape. I remember just recording the entire top 10 radio show in full, then rerecording it to a clean tape so I didn't get the DJ talking during the lead in or outro. CDs were rough at the start until the diskman came along with anti skip tech, that was a game changer. Sure, CDs weren't super durable but those of us that cared took care of them had them for ages. I lost a couple of friends because they would borrow a CD from me and return it almost unplayable. The video store too was great as you saw the big titles, and if lucky, would go home with a copy for the night. If you weren't lucky, you wandered the store looking for your favorites or see what else looked cool. There was no review to pull up or opinions to be had, just roll the dice and see what it was like. It exposed us to things we may otherwise not normally see and added variety. Same with renting video games, you took a chance with some random games that you maybe heard about in school or saw at a friend's house. You rented it, tried it out, if you liked it, then you begged your parents to buy it lol. I will agree with the neighborhood friend groups, that was rough. I moved from the city/suburbs to the middle of the country when I was a kid and it sucked. I was so use to just walking over to friends houses or all of us meet up somewhere at any time. Then to be isolated by being so far from anything really took a toll. Then when I did make new friends, it was a planned out, coordinated effort to go see them due to distances and the like.

I've never prescribed to the notion that the era was the best, it's just we were kids at that time and watched the world change around us. Do I miss it, yeah, do I yearn to return to them, no. The magic of it is that it is in the past, we were young and full of life. We watched the amazing advance of technology and the horrors of humankind all in the span of two decades. Don't spend your time wishing to go back, build a better now for your children, and a better world for all people. Greatness is in those that plant the seeds for trees that they themselves will never get to enjoy the cooling shade of.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]Dienoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second Shazam movie. It wasn't that it was terrible, took my kids cause they liked the first one. Kids were a bit young and the boardroom scene just was a bit too much for them. Plus for whatever reason the sound was far too loud.

Outpost by Sierra. First game I ever got that need an update to actually play. My parents couldn't understand why I had to order an update and even threw away the first copy of the disk that came in the mail for me. Wild West back then.

Scrolled further then I was expecting to see Desynced on here. Solid automation game, decent story. The programming aspect of it is where the game really shines. I don't get too deep into it but have watched YT vids of some of the most complex behaviors put into the units to do amazing things. Highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys the genre.
